Book Feasibility of Parametric Excitation of Acoustic Resonators

Download or read book Feasibility of Parametric Excitation of Acoustic Resonators written by Larry P. Varnadore and published by . This book was released on 2001-06-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines the feasibility of parametrically exciting a mode of an acoustic resonator. Such excitation may result in substantially larger amplitudes than by direct excitation, and would thus be useful in acoustic devices that require high-amplitude standing waves. Parametric excitation of a mode occurs if the natural frequency is modulated at twice its value, and if the drive amplitude is above a threshold value due to dissipation. It is theoretically shown to be possible to excite the fundamental longitudinal mode of a pipe of any length filled with sulfur hexafluoride if the length is modulated with an Electrovoice EVX-150A driver. For carbon dioxide, excitation is predicted to occur if the pipe is longer than 1.2 meters. Also investigated is parametric excitation of the fundamental radial mode of a cylindrical cavity by modulating the height and thus the temperature. In this case, no driver was found to be capable of exceeding the threshold, regardless of the gas. Use of an electromagnetic wave source to modulate the temperature was also considered as a means of parametrically exciting the fundamental radial mode. Preliminary investigations show that sufficient heat conduction cannot occur over an acoustic cycle, indicating that this method is infeasible.

Book Digital Audio Processing Fundamentals

Download or read book Digital Audio Processing Fundamentals written by Aurelio Uncini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-02 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides an accessible overview of audio signal processing, and enables readers to design and write algorithms for the analysis, synthesis, and manipulation of musical and acoustic signals for any programming language. It provides an overview of highly interdisciplinary topics developed in a simple but rigorous way, and described in a unified and formal language which focuses on determining discrete-time audio signal models. Readers can find within a self-contained volume basic topics ranging over different disciplines: mechanical acoustics, physical systems and linear and nonlinear models, with lumped and distributed parameters; described and developed with the same level of mathematical formalism, easy to understand and oriented to the development of algorithms. Topics include the fundamental concepts of acoustic mechanics and vibration; the design of filters and equalizers for sound signals, the so-called audio effects, abstract methods of sound synthesis, and finally, methods of synthesis by physical modeling.

Download or read book Understanding Acoustics written by Steven L. Garrett and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-24 with total page 913 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a unified approach to acoustics and vibration suitable for use in advanced undergraduate and first-year graduate courses on vibration and fluids. The book includes thorough treatment of vibration of harmonic oscillators, coupled oscillators, isotropic elasticity, and waves in solids including the use of resonance techniques for determination of elastic moduli. Drawing on 35 years of experience teaching introductory graduate acoustics at the Naval Postgraduate School and Penn State, the author presents a hydrodynamic approach to the acoustics of sound in fluids that provides a uniform methodology for analysis of lumped-element systems and wave propagation that can incorporate attenuation mechanisms and complex media. This view provides a consistent and reliable approach that can be extended with confidence to more complex fluids and future applications. Understanding Acoustics opens with a mathematical introduction that includes graphing and statistical uncertainty, followed by five chapters on vibration and elastic waves that provide important results and highlight modern applications while introducing analytical techniques that are revisited in the study of waves in fluids covered in Part II. A unified approach to waves in fluids (i.e., liquids and gases) is based on a mastery of the hydrodynamic equations. Part III demonstrates extensions of this view to nonlinear acoustics. Engaging and practical, this book is a must-read for graduate students in acoustics and vibration as well as active researchers interested in a novel approach to the material.
