Book Feasibility of Geothermal Space

Download or read book Feasibility of Geothermal Space written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of a study to determine the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility of geothermal district heating for Mammoth Lakes Village, California are reported. The geothermal district heating system selected is technically feasible and will use existing technology in its design and operation. District heating can provide space and water heating energy for typical customers at lower cost than alternative sources of energy. If the district heating system is investor owned, lower costs are realized after five to six years of operation, and if owned by a nonprofit organization, after zero to three years. District heating offers lower costs than alternatives much sooner in time if co-generation and/or DOE participation in system construction are included in the analysis. During a preliminary environmental assessment, no potential adverse environmental impacts could be identified of sufficient consequence to preclude the construction and operation of the proposed district heating system. A follow-on program aimed at implementing district heating in Mammoth is outlined.

Book Feasibility of Geothermal Applications for Greenhousing and Space Heating on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation South Dakota

Download or read book Feasibility of Geothermal Applications for Greenhousing and Space Heating on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation South Dakota written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although little is known about the geothermal resources under the Pine Ridge Reservation, there seem to be good possibilities of a resource hot enough to provide heating for greenhouses, at least in the northeast portion of Shannon County. At the present time, there do not appear to be resources hot enough to provide direct use space heating of residential or commercial buildings near any of the existing population centers. Space heating using water source heat pumps may be economical and should be considered for new construction of larger heat users such as the proposed hospital at Pine Ridge. Further resource investigation is recommended, particularly more surface geology and water chemistry work. Test drilling will be required to confirm the availability of both direct use and heat pump required temperatures and flows. It is estimated that geothermal energy could be delivered to a greenhouse operation in northeast Shannon County for $4.71 per million Btu's. This compares to $11.67 for propane, the least expensive competing conventional fuel. Other factors such as availability of qualified labor, market demand, transportation, availability of power, etc. must be considered. 8 refs., 3 figs., 2 tabs.

Book An Evaluation and Economic Analysis of a Water Main Geothermal System in a Residential Space

Download or read book An Evaluation and Economic Analysis of a Water Main Geothermal System in a Residential Space written by Brian Lee Kohut and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water main geothermal systems have the potential to bring geothermal heat pump systems to a larger scale and drastically reduce carbon emissions. Current research supports this by showing that the quality of water produced by these systems remains unchanged (Smith and Liu 2018). There have been studies that show some form of economic feasibility without an in-depth design, evaluation, and economic analysis (Ambort and Farrell 2020). This research will provide that analysis and help determine any next steps to achieve the feasibility of the design and implementation of these systems on a larger scale and the impact these systems will have on reducing carbon emissions. The main objective of this research is to design, evaluate, and provide an economic analysis of a water main geothermal system in a residential space using TRNSYS 18 with the TESS component library package. Provide concrete data that supports the economic feasibility of owning and operating this type of geothermal system. The water main geothermal system was designed using TRNSYS 18 with the TESS component library package. A detailed guide, explaining the procedure for using TRNSYS 18 with the TESS component library package is given. The guide will allow researchers to understand the overall system design including results. This research work will determine the economic feasibility of implementing a water main geothermal HVAC system in a residential space using TRNSYS 18 to simulate the performance.

Book Feasibility Study of Geothermal Heating Modoc Lassen Housing Project

Download or read book Feasibility Study of Geothermal Heating Modoc Lassen Housing Project written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study evaluates the feasibility of using geothermal water for space and domestic water heating systems at the elderly housing project now ready for construction at the Modoc Lassen Indian Reservation. For the six units considered, the space heating load is four times the domestic water heating load. Since the geothermal water temperature is uncertain, two scenarios were evaluated. In the first, which assumes 160°F supply temperature, the geothermal system is assumed to satisfy the entire space and domestic water heating loads. In the second, which assumes the supply temperature to be less than 120°F at the wellhead only space heating is provided. The economics of the first scenario are quite favorable. The additional expenditure of $15,630 is projected to save $3522 annually at current energy costs, and the life cycle cost study projects a discounted rate of return on the investment of 44.4%. Surprisingly, the investment is even more favorable for the second scenario, due to the higher cost and lower resultant savings for the domestic water components. Forced air space heating from geothermal is recommended. Domestic water heating is recommended pending additional information on supply water temperature.

Book Geothermal District Heating System Feasibility Analysis Thermopolis Wyoming

Download or read book Geothermal District Heating System Feasibility Analysis Thermopolis Wyoming written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to determine the technical and economic feasibility of constructing and operating a district heating system to serve the residential, commercial, and public sectors in Thermopolis. The project geothermal resource assessment, based on reviews of existing information and data, indicated that substantial hot water resources likely exist in the Rose Dome region 10 miles northeast of Thermopolis, and with quantities capable of supporting the proposed geothermal uses. Preliminary engineering designs were developed to serve the space heating and hot water heating demands for buildings in the Thermopolis-East Thermopolis town service area. The heating district design is based on indirect geothermal heat supply and includes production wells, transmission lines, heat exchanger units, and the closed loop distribution and collection system necessary to serve the individual customers. Three options are presented for disposal of the cooled waters-reinjection, river disposal, and agricultural reuse. The preliminary engineering effort indicates the proposed system is technically feasible. The design is sized to serve 1545 residences, 190 businesses, and 24 public buildings. The peak design meets a demand of 128.2 million Btu at production rates of 6400 gpm.
