Download or read book Seismic Data Interpretation and Evaluation for Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production written by Niranjan C. Nanda and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to the field of seismic data interpretation and evaluation, covering themes such as petroleum exploration and high resolution seismic data. It helps geoscientists and engineers who are practitioners in this area to both understand and to avoid the potential pitfalls of interpreting and evaluating such data, especially the over-reliance on sophisticated software packages and workstations alongside a lack of grasp on the elementary principles of geology and geophysics. Chapters elaborate on the necessary principles, from topics like seismic wave propagation and rock-fluid parameters to seismic modeling and inversions, explaining the need to understand geological implications. The difference between interpretation of data and its evaluation is highlighted and the author encourages imaginative, logical and practical application of knowledge. Readers will appreciate the exquisite illustrations included with the accessibly written text, which simplify the process of learning about interpretation of seismic data. This multidisciplinary, integrated and practical approach to data evaluation will prove to be a valuable tool for students and young professionals, especially those connected with oil companies.

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Marine Geosciences written by Jan Harff and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 1000 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globally growing demand of energy and mineral resources, reliable future projection of climate processes and the protection of coasts to mitigate the threats of disasters and hazards require a comprehensive understanding of the structure, ongoing processes and genesis of the marine geosphere. Beyond the “classical” research fields in marine geology in current time more general concepts have been evolved integrating marine geophysics, hydrography, marine biology, climatology and ecology. As an umbrella the term “marine geosciences” has been broadly accepted for this new complex field of research and the solutions of practical tasks in the marine realm. The “Encyclopedia of Marine Geosciences” comprises the current knowledge in marine geosciences whereby not only basic but also applied and technical sciences are covered. Through this concept a broad scale of users in the field of marine sciences and techniques is addressed from students and scholars in academia to engineers and decision makers in industry and politics.

Download or read book Scientific Results from JAPEX JNOC GSC Mallik 2L 38 Gas Hydrate Research Well Mackenzie Delta Northwest Territories Canada written by S. R. Dallimore and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas hydrate, a solid form of natural gas and water, occurs in nature in association with deep permafrost and in offshore environments adjacent to continental margins. This report presents results of a gas hydrate research well project located at the north-eastern edge of the Mackenzie Delta. The project brought together researchers from North America and Japan to undertake the first investigation of a natural gas hydrate occurrence beneath permafrost that included extensive dedicated coring and associated engineering and scientific studies. The report compiles papers from the project in the following categories: an overview of the project, including drilling operations; a regional overview of gas hydrate occurrences, permafrost conditions, and geology in the project area; geology and biostratigraphy of the drilled cores; physical properties and geochemistry of the cores; characteristics of the gas hydrate, including chemical and physical analyses; downhole geophysics; and regional gas hydrate occurrences, production, and climate change considerations. Includes author index.

Download or read book Gas Hydrates written by Gerald D. Holder and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers covers a rich variety of topics related to gas hydrates that are important to chemical engineers and chemists, geophysicists and oceanographers, and petroleum engineers. Topics covered include resource characterization and geophysics, off-shore hydrate engineering, production of gas from hydrates, hydrate kinetics, hydrate thermodynamics, mass transfer in gas hydrates, inhibition of hydrate formation in transportation lines, control of hydrates to make them more easily transportable, and properties of hydrates. This volume helps to answer the dual questions of how gas and oil production is affected by hydrate formation and prevention (of immediate and critical interest to current energy supplies) and how hydrates might serve as a clean future energy supply.
