Download or read book What Women Fear written by Angie Smith and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2011-08-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A woman's faith in God is challenged by the first question Satan asks Eve in the Bible: "Did God really say you can’t eat from any tree in the garden?" That seed of doubt and the story it begins to unfold breed a concept of fear still haunting each of us on some level every day-the idea that our actions could ruin something beautiful, and God might not have control of things. In What Women Fear, acclaimed writer and speaker Angie Smith admits, "fear is a major part of my testimony" and talks openly about her treatment for anxiety as a child. Giving a voice to the problem, she says, "I truly believe every single one of us struggles with some type of fear, whether it's fear of flying or fear of being 'found out.' Maybe you don’t worry about dying, but you get sick thinking about the fact that you might fail." Rather than suggesting that those who truly love the Lord would never fear, Angie blends her own experiences with those of men and women from throughout Scripture to help us start dealing more effectively with these true, human emotions. Whether it’s a constant "What if?," a nagging fear of abandonment or betrayal, fear of your own or someone else’s death, fear of trusting God's plan, or even the fear that God's existence is a lie, Angie will walk you through stories of others who have simultaneously loved God and struggled with fear. Join Angie and discover how to let Jesus redeem this struggle as only He can, that He will be glorified, and you will be transformed! Endorsements Angie Smith has the rare gift to write a non-fiction page-turner as good as any fiction book I've read. As her words tumbled out in raw honesty, fresh hope spread before me. Her teachings on fear are comforting, practical, and gut honest. I can't wait for you to read this life-changing book. What Women Fear is one of my favorites this year. Honestly, I think it will stay next to my bed for a very long time. Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times best-selling author of Made to Crave You don't have to be around Angie Smith very long to fall in love with her. She is funny and transparent with a passionate love for Christ. In What Women Fear Angie holds up a mirror so that we can see ourselves from every angle, the thoughts we display on the front shelves of our lives and those we hide. The greatest gift tucked into this book is the overwhelming picture of the mercy of our God who understands our fears and invites us to stand beside Him in the rain and let His love wash us clean. Sheila Walsh, author of The Shelter of God's Promises Whatever high wire you’re walking right now, there really is nobody you want at the other end of the line like Angie Smith. And this rare gem of a book is like a steadying, sure hand taking you right into His presence in ways you never imagined. Vivid, profoundly biblical, yet girlfriend real with just-the-medicine-you-need-funny, every page is reviving hope for every woman. Simply, Angie Smith is a Bible teacher for such a time as this. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you long to know your unique purpose? Do you feel you have a calling but wonder how to fulfill it? As we pursue a sense of purpose and scramble to be the ones chosen for internships, graduate schools, marriages, careers, or some special honor, we often tie our identity to people, places, and clear plans that leave us frustrated and unfulfilled. We feel like we’re missing the life we’re supposed to live and we somehow veered off course. We ask questions like, “Is this God’s plan for me? How do I know? What is His plan, anyway?” What if Scripture not only answered these questions but also taught us an entirely new way of living? Instead of waiting for the perfect person, place, or plan, what if we lived, above all else, as chosen for Christ? Chosen for Christ invites you to step into the life you’ve been missing. You were chosen for a Person, not a plan. Now it’s time to live out your calling to: worship Jesus live as His treasured possession belong to a new household become like Jesus display God’s power complete the good works He designed for you live differently from the rest of the world In a world fixated on personal purpose and impact, Chosen for Christ presents a new way to think about calling. Each chapter includes discussion questions that will help women embrace their identity as chosen ones and step into a new way of living each new day. Chosen for Christ completes Heather Holleman’s vivid verbs trilogy, which also includes Seated with Christ and Guarded by Christ. It works wonderfully as a stand-alone book or as a powerful companion to her previous works. It also provides an expansion of ideas that appear briefly in Holleman’s devotional Included in Christ.

Book African Women and the Shame and Pain of Infertility

Download or read book African Women and the Shame and Pain of Infertility written by Damasus C. Okoro and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-06-24 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In African Women and the Shame and Pain of Infertility: An Ethico-Cultural Study of Christian Response to Childlessness among the Igbo People of West Africa, Okoro discusses the shipwreck that is associated with infertility in marriage in Africa. Within this space, childlessness places a big question mark on a woman's femininity and the self-esteem of the man. The stigma of infertility most often leads to social isolation and humiliation, particularly of married women, even when the source of infertility may not have come from them. Unfortunately, this situation goes against the highly valued Igbo ethical principle of onye aghala nwanne ya, meaning "no kith or kin should be left behind." Therefore, the purpose of the book is to help married people in Igbo land and Africa at large to appropriate this indigenous principle in their response to the problem of infertility. To attain this, the author critically evaluates discrimination and oppression of infertile couples, particularly women, and shedding light on the paradoxes found in Igbo cultural expressions. He employs a constructive, ethical, cultural, religious, contextual, and theological approach that explores important Igbo religious paradigms like Chi (an Igbo religio-cultural understanding of personal destiny) and Ani (the feminine deity in-charge of the land and fertility) to argue the case for the liberation and integration of infertile couples.

Book excerpt: Originated in 1919 to showcase the works of exceptional American poets under the age of forty, the Yale Series of Younger Poets prize is the oldest annual literary award presented in the United States. Ansel Elkins’s poetry collection, Blue Yodel, is the 109th volume to be so honored. Esteemed poet and competition judge Carl Phillips praises Elkins for her “arresting use of persona,” calling her poems “razor-edged in their intelligence, Southern Gothic in their sensibility.” In her imaginative and haunting debut collection, Elkins introduces readers to a multitude of characters whose “otherness” has condemned them to live on the margins of society. She weaves blues, ballads, folklore, and storytelling into an intricate tapestry that depicts the violence, poverty, and loneliness of the Deep South, as well as the compassion, generosity, and hope that brings light to people in their darkest times. The blue yodel heard throughout this diverse compilation is a raw, primal, deeply felt expression of the human experience, calling on us to reach out to the isolated and disenfranchised and to find the humanity in every person.

Book Disciple s Diary

  • Author : Cinthia W. Pratt
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2012-08-31
  • ISBN : 1449764304
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Disciple s Diary written by Cinthia W. Pratt and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-08-31 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disciples Diary is the second book in Cindees series written for women journeying to become all that God has created them to be. This edition is a collection of poems, devotional teachings, and reflective narrative, intended to encourage and to provoke thought in those discipled daughters; who may discover that they are now traveling across terrain much like the territories that the heroine in the story crosses. Her Valley of Shadows may be found sitting at the bedside of a terminally ill loved one. Her Wide Wilderness of Want may appear in the form of a bankruptcy or through the loss of a business or a home. Divorce-court proceedings may compose the walls of the dark pit of loneliness, in which the disciple daughter now sits trapped as she watches the fogs of confusion and doubt begin to roll in overhead. A rebellious child, an unfaithful spouse, and seemingly countless unanswered prayers may all contribute to the tangled briers and twisted branches of the wilderness thicket that blocks the suns warmth and light from the path on which the present-day sojourner now travels. Such is the terrain that might be traced on the map of a modern-day disciple daughter. Fearfully Female and Wonderfully Woman: Becoming All That God Created is the first book in Cindee's series and is designed to be a navigational guide for Christian women of all ages and backgrounds. While Disciples Diary is designed as a devotional collection; this book is more informational in format. Topics addressed in this study include body image, self -esteem, developing healthy friendships, growing old in a youth oriented culture, developing our spiritual gifts, and finding our place of ministry. Fearfully Female and Wonderfully Woman would be a valuable reference tool as well as a guide for individual or small group study. http://bookstore.westbowpress.com/Products/SKU-000466986/Fearfully-Female-and-Wonderfully-Woman.aspx
