Book Fear No Evil A Guide for Prison Chaplaincy

Download or read book Fear No Evil A Guide for Prison Chaplaincy written by Dr. Aaron W. Mobley and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-03 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prison ministry is a very challenging profession. The dangers, red-tape, bureaucracy, and legal ramifications are enormous. But God calls us to go into ALL nations. This does include the dangers behind razor wire. Prison is an intimidating place the first time you walk inside. It is full of enormous hazards and roadblocks. There are very dangerous individuals inside the prison fence. There are also some much-unexpected individuals locked away. On a daily basis there are in-mates who give me the stare of death. Their game is intimidation, power, and corruption. Yet, the darkness and evil of prison is exactly where Christians should be. We are called to be the light in the dark-ness. With Christ as our guide we should fear no evil!

Book Magic of Fiction in Illuminating Transformation

Download or read book Magic of Fiction in Illuminating Transformation written by Donald Stoesz and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a direct response to the two most frequently asked questions that I receive as a prison chaplain: Are offenders remorseful for what they have done? Is it possible for them to change? While the answer to the first question is often a resounding Yes!, this does not mean that it is always possible for inmates to change. Some of them find it too difficult, too much sacrifice, too much work. Others are willingly to make the long journey toward healing and wholeness. The intractability of Tom Riddle in the Harry Potter series is used to look at the challenges of feeling remorse. The story of Jean Valjean details the journey from remorse to forgiveness, from grace to justification, from being reborn to becoming sanctified, from becoming holy to learning how to love. Jesus’ remarks that “he can lay down his life and take it up again” is used to develop a stronger theology of the will. The divine and human will are ever present in enabling change to occur. The sacrificial example of Saint Francis of Assisi shows how voluntary poverty, chastity, and obedience are necessary ingredients in becoming spiritually whole. The book concludes with a reflection on Dismas, the first Christian martyr.

  • Author : Henry G. Covert
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing USA

Download or read book Discovering the Parables written by Henry G. Covert and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2007-12-30 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long before there were printing presses, copy machines, and email, societies used storytelling to convey beliefs, history, and traditions. This practice preceded the ministry of Jesus and continues today in many cultures. But Jesus was a master of storytelling. His words provide many with guidelines and a road map for living. Using familiar imagery found in nature and other recognizable sources, he engaged his listeners with lessons that confronted every aspect of their lives, providing the tools for self-examination and change. Speaking in parables, however, sometimes caused confusion for his listeners, and readers today may wonder what exactly he meant, and how his words apply to everyday life. This book looks at each of Jesus's parables, explaining the key points, the central themes, and the meanings we can take away from the stories. By considering each parable in depth, the author helps readers come to a better understanding of the teachings of Jesus and what they mean for our lives.
