Book Fault Trees for Decision Making in Systems Analysis

Download or read book Fault Trees for Decision Making in Systems Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of fault tree analysis (FTA) to system safety and reliability is presented within the framework of system safety analysis. The concepts and techniques involved in manual and automated fault tree construction are described and their differences noted. The theory of mathematical reliability pertinent to FTA is presented with emphasis on engineering applications. An outline of the quantitative reliability techniques of the Reactor Safety Study is given. Concepts of probabilistic importance are presented within the fault tree framework and applied to the areas of system design, diagnosis and simulation. The computer code IMPORTANCE ranks basic events and cut sets according to a sensitivity analysis. A useful feature of the IMPORTANCE code is that it can accept relative failure data as input. The output of the IMPORTANCE code can assist an analyst in finding weaknesses in system design and operation, suggest the most optimal course of system upgrade, and determine the optimal location of sensors within a system. A general simulation model of system failure in terms of fault tree logic is described. The model is intended for efficient diagnosis of the causes of system failure in the event of a system breakdown. It can also be used to assist an operator in making decisions under a time constraint regarding the future course of operations. The model is well suited for computer implementation. New results incorporated in the simulation model include an algorithm to generate repair checklists on the basis of fault tree logic and a one-step-ahead optimization procedure that minimizes the expected time to diagnose system failure. Book New Trends in System Reliability Evaluation

Download or read book New Trends in System Reliability Evaluation written by K.B. Misra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of system reliability evaluation has never been so extensively and incisively discussed as in the present volume. The book fills a gap in the existing literature on the subject by highlighting the shortcomings of the current state-of-the-art and focusing on on-going efforts aimed at seeking better models, improved solutions and alternative approaches to the problem of system reliability evaluation. The book's foremost objective is to provide an insight into developments that are likely to revolutionize the art and science in the near future. At the same time it will help serve as a benchmark for the reader not only to understand and appreciate the newer developments but to profitably guide him in reorienting his efforts. This book will be valuable for people working in various industries, research organizations, particularly in electrical and electronics, defence, nuclear, chemical, space and communciation systems. It will also be useful for serious-minded students, teachers, and for the laboratories of educational institutions.

Book Risk and Safety Analysis of Nuclear Systems

Download or read book Risk and Safety Analysis of Nuclear Systems written by John C. Lee and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-01-12 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book has been developed in conjunction with NERS 462, a course offered every year to seniors and graduate students in the University of Michigan NERS program. The first half of the book covers the principles of risk analysis, the techniques used to develop and update a reliability data base, the reliability of multi-component systems, Markov methods used to analyze the unavailability of systems with repairs, fault trees and event trees used in probabilistic risk assessments (PRAs), and failure modes of systems. All of this material is general enough that it could be used in non-nuclear applications, although there is an emphasis placed on the analysis of nuclear systems. The second half of the book covers the safety analysis of nuclear energy systems, an analysis of major accidents and incidents that occurred in commercial nuclear plants, applications of PRA techniques to the safety analysis of nuclear power plants (focusing on a major PRA study for five nuclear power plants), practical PRA examples, and emerging techniques in the structure of dynamic event trees and fault trees that can provide a more realistic representation of complex sequences of events. The book concludes with a discussion on passive safety features of advanced nuclear energy systems under development and approaches taken for risk-informed regulations for nuclear plants.

Book Fault and Event Tree Analyses for Process Systems Risk Analysis Uncertainty Handling Formulations

Download or read book Fault and Event Tree Analyses for Process Systems Risk Analysis Uncertainty Handling Formulations written by Refaul Ferdous and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantitative risk analysis (QRA) is a systematic approach for evaluating likelihood, consequences, and risk of adverse events. QRA based on event (ETA) and fault tree analyses (FTA) employs two basic assumptions. The first assumption is related to likelihood values of input events, and the second assumption is regarding interdependence among the events (for ETA) or basic events (for FTA).

Book Reliability Engineering

Download or read book Reliability Engineering written by Elsayed A. Elsayed and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-16 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A newly revised and updated edition that details both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of reliability engineering Reliability is one of the most important quality characteristics of components, products, and large and complex systems—but it takes a significant amount of time and resources to bring reliability to fruition. Thoroughly classroom- and industry-tested, this book helps ensure that engineers see reliability success with every product they design, test, and manufacture. Divided into three parts, Reliability Engineering, Second Edition handily describes the theories and their practical uses while presenting readers with real-world examples and problems to solve. Part I focuses on system reliability estimation for time independent and failure dependent models, helping engineers create a reliable design. Part II aids the reader in assembling necessary components and configuring them to achieve desired reliability objectives, conducting reliability tests on components, and using field data from similar components. Part III follows what happens once a product is produced and sold, how the manufacturer must ensure its reliability objectives by providing preventive and scheduled maintenance and warranty policies. This Second Edition includes in-depth and enhanced chapter coverage of: Reliability and Hazard Functions System Reliability Evaluation Time- and Failure-Dependent Reliability Estimation Methods of the Parameters of Failure-Time Distributions Parametric Reliability Models Models for Accelerated Life Testing Renewal Processes and Expected Number of Failures Preventive Maintenance and Inspection Warranty Models Case Studies A comprehensive reference for practitioners and professionals in quality and reliability engineering, Reliability Engineering can also be used for senior undergraduate or graduate courses in industrial and systems, mechanical, and electrical engineering programs.
