Book Fatigue Handbook

Download or read book Fatigue Handbook written by A. Almar-Naess and published by Fagbokforlaget. This book was released on 1985 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soon after oil and gas exploration and production began in the North Sea in the 1960s, it became apparent that the steel structure design developed for offshore activities in the Gulf of Mexico was not adequate when transferred to the rigorous North Sea environment. Realizing the great need for a better understanding of the fatigue phenomenon, concerned materials scientists at SINTEF and Det norske Veritas prepared a five-year programme for intensified research on fatigue of offshore steel structures. It became the National Five Year Programme for Fatigue of Offshore Steel Structures in 1981. This text comprises a study of fatigue in offshore steel structures. It seeks to make results in the area available in a form that can be utilized and understood by those responsible for the different stages in engineering, design, fabrication and service of offshore structures.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: and Literature Rev iew Chapter 1 1. INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW The exploration for oil and gas in ever increasing water depths has given an impetus to research efforts on the behaviour of offshore structures under ocean environment. These structures are continuously subjected to environmental loading because of waves, wind and current. A response analysis is required to assess the safety of offshore structure under severe storm conditions as well as for estimation of damage caused by less severe but more frequently occuring sea states. A majority of the reported failures in the life time of offshore structures are in fact fatigue failures. The offshore structures are usually built in the form of welded tubular structures. The joints of these tubular members experience the fatigue damage mainly due to small defects in welding which act as crack initiators, high stress concentrations and the variable loads. The variable loads due to the ocean waves cause cyclic stress variation in the structural members and the accumu lated effect of these stresses results in the fatigue failure.

Book Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures

Download or read book Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures written by Linus Etube and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Etube (mechanical engineering, University College London) presents novel research and the results of wave-induced stress on the operational life of offshore structures. Using the results of an investigation undertaken to assess the fatigue and fracture performance of steels used in the industry, the five chapters discuss details of the methodology to develop a typical jack-up offshore standard load history (JOSH); factors that influence fatigue resistance of structural steels used in the construction of jack-up structures; methods used to model the relevant factors for inclusion in JOSH, with emphasis on loading and structural response interaction; results and details of experimental variable amplitude corrosion fatigue tests conducted using JOSH; and a novel generalized methodology for fast assessment of offshore structural welded joints. Book Fatigue Life Analyses of Welded Structures

Download or read book Fatigue Life Analyses of Welded Structures written by Tom Lassen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Avoiding or controlling fatigue damage is a major issue in the design and inspection of welded structures subjected to dynamic loading. Life predictions are usually used for safe life analysis, i.e. for verifying that it is very unlikely that fatigue damage will occur during the target service life of a structure. Damage tolerance analysis is used for predicting the behavior of a fatigue crack and for planning of in-service scheduled inspections. It should be a high probability that any cracks appearing are detected and repaired before they become critical. In both safe life analysis and the damage tolerance analysis there may be large uncertainties involved that have to be treated in a logical and consistent manner by stochastic modeling. This book focuses on fatigue life predictions and damage tolerance analysis of welded joints and is divided into three parts. The first part outlines the common practice used for safe life and damage tolerance analysis with reference to rules and regulations. The second part emphasises stochastic modeling and decision-making under uncertainty, while the final part is devoted to recent advances within fatigue research on welded joints. Industrial examples that are included are mainly dealing with offshore steel structures. Spreadsheets which accompany the book give the reader the possibility for hands-on experience of fatigue life predictions, crack growth analysis and inspection planning. As such, these different areas will be of use to engineers and researchers.

Book Ageing and Life Extension of Offshore Structures

Download or read book Ageing and Life Extension of Offshore Structures written by Gerhard Ersdal and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive overview of managing and assessing safety and functionality of ageing offshore structures and pipelines A significant proportion, estimated at over 50%, of the worldwide infrastructure of offshore structures and pipelines is in a life extension phase and is vulnerable to ageing processes. This book captures the central elements of the management of ageing offshore structures and pipelines in the life extension phase. The book gives an overview of: the relevant ageing processes and hazards; how ageing processes are managed through the life cycle, including an overview of structural integrity management; how an engineer should go about assessing a structure that is to be operated beyond its original design life, and how ageing can be mitigated for safe and effective continued operation. Key Features: Provides an understanding of ageing processes and how these can be mitigated. Applies engineering methods to ensure that existing structures can be operated longer rather than decommissioned unduly prematurely. Helps engineers performing these tasks in both evaluating the existing structures and maintaining ageing structures in a safe manner. The book gives an updated summary of current practice and research on the topic of the management of ageing structures and pipelines in the life extension phase but also meets the needs of structural engineering students and practicing offshore and structural engineers in oil & gas and engineering companies. In addition, it should be of value to regulators of the offshore industry.

Book Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures

Download or read book Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures written by Naveen Patniak and published by Scitus Academics LLC. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fatigue phenomenon process in structural elements and connections. The tubular welded joints used in the construction of offshore structures can experience millions of variable amplitude load cycles during their service life. Such fatigue loading represents a main cause of degradation in these structures. As a result, fatigue is an important consideration in their design. Fatigue and Fracture Mechanisms of Offshore Structures present novel research and the results of wave-induced stress on the operational life of offshore structures. Increasing oil consumption in the world and scarcity of land-oil resources due to political and economical reasons has caused offshore oil exploration and production to become a growing investigation field in the past six decades. The analysis of structures to use energy deposits and other recourses, or for other purposes, in ocean environments requires a special consideration since environmental and loading conditions offshore are very complicated and contain large uncertainties. Offshore structures are continuously subjected to random ocean waves producing stochastic loads that cause mainly fatigue failure in structural components.
