Book I Will Not Go the F k to Sleep

Download or read book I Will Not Go the F k to Sleep written by Richard Crasta and published by Invisible Man Press. This book was released on 2011-06-04 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if a child, asked to go the f**k to sleep by its father, could respond in adult language? What if 5000 Indian yogis simultaneously dropped hot coffee on their laps in 5000 McDonalds to balance India's budget? How about selling used nukes to help balance the budget deficit? By the father of 3 boys and one Inner Brat that refuses to go to sleep or to grow up, this broad anthology of humor is his bestselling e-book. "Pythonesque," silly, and sophisticated at the same time, according to reviewers. I WILL NOT GO THE F**K TO SLEEP is an anytime book for adults who refuse to grow up or to go to sleep in this unreal and wacky world of jet-setting yogis, retired nukes, and presidents named Bush. Profane, compassionate, wickedly funny at times, it captures a world and a humor that is fresh, subversive, and often thought-provoking. You probably should not read it to your children under 15; but don’t be surprised if they decide to read it to you. "Hysterical and informative. For the rebel in you. Great style and humor"--Linda J. Lundy, 5-star review This edition restores the ORIGINAL cover which was so popular with readers.

Book excerpt: Memoir: How Writers Screw Up and Publishing's Tricks & Taboos. “The Killing of an Author” is a true story--of a small-town Indian dreamer who meets some of the most powerful people in the literary universe. The book is set mainly in New York, and partly in London and New Delhi. With cameo appearances by literary and publishing stars, and a relentless storytelling pace, this book has an element of literary thriller to it, one climactic moment being when the world's most powerful editor tells the author, "Remarkable ... I must admit I have been haunted by your novel!" and another when Saul Bellow's agent tells the author, "I can see this as a movie!" "What comes out is his integrity. Not many people about whom you can say this. If Richard succeeds, we shall all succeed."--Kuldip Nayar, eminent Indian author/editor/statesman. "Crasta has a sense of humour which he maintains from the start to the end. Funny, sad, and eye-opening. . .Dares to be different. We need more writers like him." --The Deccan Chronicle "You are funny and delightful . . . and nowhere are you too heavy to carry. I've never read anyone like you. I laugh, I ache, I smile, I cry - but never close the book without that smile surfacing."--Sheelagh Grenon, Canada "More than a book . . . an act of bravery."--Lulu Review Keywords: publishing, publishing memoir, New York publishers, British publishers, Penguin Books, Fourth Estate, Writers, Publishing Taboos, Writers, Author Biographies, Author Memoirs, How to Succeed, Race and Publishing.

To what extent could middle-class Jewish women in the early decades of the 20th century combine family and careers? What impact did anti-Semitism and gender discrimination have in shaping their personal and professional choices? Harriet Freidenreich analyzes the lives of 460 Central European Jewish university women, focusing on their family backgrounds, university experiences, professional careers, and decisions about marriage and children. She evaluates the role of discrimination and anti-Semitism in shaping the careers of academics, physicians, and lawyers in the four decades preceding World War II and assesses the effects of Nazism, the Holocaust, and emigration on the lives of a younger cohort of women. The life stories of the women profiled reveal the courage, character, and resourcefulness with which they confronted challenges still faced by women today.

Book excerpt: “Sex is the most fun you can have without laughing,” said Woody Allen. But which do we need more, and what is it that we ALL need? In this explosive anthology of literary, political, and sexy fiction and nonfiction, sex, laughter, politics, and public interest are blended into an unusual cocktail that includes a commentary on political correctness, anti-war and satirical essays, and issues of drugs, children, and safe sex; plus, we investigate a secret U.S. Congressional investigation into the question of whether Indians f**k. This unusual and daring book begins with a Language Disclaimer and Anti-Literary Manifesto asserting that for a formerly colonized people, writing about sex is a political act, an act of empowerment. "Hilarious yet satirical account of the author's approach to sex."--Savvy Magazine “Distinct and thought-provoking. . . subversively redefines history. With witty, sexy, and passionate style, Richard Crasta deals with India’s tortured and confused Puritanism.”—www.living.oneindia.in “If any Indian writer has pushed the boundaries of satirical writing, with dollops of sexual humour (and satirical writing on a lot of other serious stuff) in his own distinctive style, it’s Richard.”—www.kitaabonline.wordpress.com

Book Impressing the Whites The New International Slavery

Download or read book Impressing the Whites The New International Slavery written by Richard Crasta and published by Invisible Man Press. This book was released on 2011-04-09 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine Edward Said, George Carlin, and Malcolm X jointly writing a book about universal racism from a cosmopolitan Indian's perspective and compiling “The Fourteen Commandments of Impressing the Whites” delivered by a White God? Impressing the Whites is exactly that kind of book. It had a controversial reception when first published in India, where it was featured on national television and briefly made an online bestseller list. Ferociously satirical and idealistic in turns, “Impressing the Whites” suggests ways in which the world might be made fairer for its increasingly multicolored inhabitants. The book also urges that diverse cultures and peoples retain their authenticity what makes them unique rather than succumbing to the universal tendency towards standardization. "The reader laughs, squirms, recognizes his/her own hypocrisy and the blatant absurdity of most unquestioned social conventions. Zany exuberance . . . mischievous.", says one review. Ferociously satirical, idealistic, and politically incorrect (because political correctness becomes a barrier to thought and expression), it is an argument for diverse cultures and peoples remaining authentic rather than succumbing to a global, McDonaldsized culture. It also examines the dilemma faced by non-white people forced to strive to be judged and found worthy by the West, but also yearn to be authentic. What does this situation mean for authenticity, honesty, integrity, and a mutually respectful and honest communication between West and East? "Boldly goes where no Indian writer has gone before."--The Asian Age, Book Pick of the Fortnight.

Whiskey Rebels is a collection of first-person accounts of the brilliant, brave, and slightly crazy innovators responsible for changing the whiskey landscape forever—people like Ralph Erenzo, recipient of the first distilling license in New York State in 80 years who went on to create Hudson Baby Bourbon; Nicole Austin, a prominent female producer and vocal activist who brought an indie spirit to the renowned American whiskey region of Tennessee through George Dickel Tennessee Whisky; and Bill Owens, who founded the American Distilling Institute in 2003. Spirits pro and award-winning author John McCarthy (The Modern Gentleman) has conducted hundreds of hours of interviews to gather these fascinating first-person accounts and give readers an amusing and thorough insight into the world of American craft whiskey. Under his expert guidance, readers will also learn the requirements to be considered a craft whiskey distiller, the effect of the craft beer movement on modern craft distilling, why craft distillers hate the word “craft,” and many other pieces of insider information.

Download or read book The Rebel written by Leonor Villegas de Magn—n and published by Arte Publico Press. This book was released on 1994-09-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rebel is the memoir of a revolutionary woman, Leonor Villegas de Magnon (1876-1955), who was a fiery critic of dictator Porfirio Diaz and a conspirator and participant in the Mexican Revolution. Villegas de Magnon rebelled against the ideals of her aristocratic class and against the traditional role of women in her society. In 1910 Villegas moved from Mexico to Laredo, Texas, where she continued supporting the revolution as a member of the Junta Revolucionaria (Revolutionary Council) and as a fiery editorialist in Laredo newspapers. In 1913, she founded La Cruz Blanca (The White Cross) to serve as a corps of nurses for the revolutionary forces active from the border region to Mexico City. Many women like Villegas de Magnon from both sides of the border risked their lives and left their families to support the revolution. Years later, however, when their participation had still been unacknowledged and was running the risk of being forgotten, Villegas de Magnon decided to write her personal account of this history. The Rebel covers the period from 1876 through 1920, documenting the heroic actions of the women. Written in the third person with a romantic fervor, the narrative interweaves autobiography with the story of La Cruz Blanca. Until now Villegas de Magnon's written contributions have remained virtually unrecognized - peripheral to both Mexico and the United States, fragmented by a border. Not only does her work attest to the vitality, strength and involvement of women in sociopolitical concerns, but it also stands as one of the very few written documents that consciously challenges stereotyped misconceptions of Mexican Americans held by both Mexicans and Anglo-Americans.
