Book Darkest Truths of Black Gold

Download or read book Darkest Truths of Black Gold written by Robert Palmer Smith and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over forty years ago the British Government warned the Italian Government; "Don't trust the Russians." The author was there. Today, forty years later, Newsweek echoes the same warning to any country that puts its energy sources at the political whim and fancy of Mr. Putin. And what of the warnings that the United States Government was given over sixty years ago that Mao-Ze-tung was not the 'second coming of the Messiah'? The author was there. And he seethed in rage and torment as he tried to sleep on the steel deck of a United States evacuation LST while he heard the 'Messiah's guns laying siege to Beijing. But all good things come to an end, even the bad ones, and meeting the Queen of England at the Prime Minister's residence, The Temple Trees, in Ceylon and issuing an invitation to His Royal Highness to play polo more than compensated the author for his first evacuation. But the reasons for his second evacuation from Cairo and his family's evacuation from Beirut are not quite as clear as he would like. Hearing about them might give the reader some thoughts about the difficulties faced by their fellow citizens who serve them abroad.

Book Iran Since the Revolution RLE Iran D

Download or read book Iran Since the Revolution RLE Iran D written by Sepehr Zabir and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the turn of the century Iran has experienced three major political upheavals in the struggle to democratize her political systems. The last revolution inaugurated an era of unprecedented turmoil and instead of fulfilling its democratic aim, paved the way for an even more despotic theocracy. To put the revolution in a proper perspective, some attempt is made to explain the reasons for Khomeini’s success in acquiring first, the symbolic leadership of the anti-Shah revolution, and then, the monopolistic control of power in Iran. How and why the other claimants to power were shunted aside and later brutally repressed is a further theme for discussion. The domestic and external ramifications of the revolution are examined in detail; in particular the rise of the anti-American feeling which culminated in the hostage crisis. In conclusion, an analysis is offered of the instrumentalities of power available to the Islamic Republic, and several scenarios are explored in which Iran’s competing forces may converge to determine whether this third revolution will finally succeed in subordinating political authority to popular democratic consent.

Book The Murder of the Century

Download or read book The Murder of the Century written by Paul Collins and published by Crown. This book was released on 2011-06-14 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The “enormously entertaining” (The Wall Street Journal) account of a shocking 1897 murder mystery that “artfully re-create[s] the era, the crime, and the newspaper wars it touched off” (The New York Times) AN EDGAR NOMINEE FOR BEST FACT CRIME • “Fascinating . . . won’t disappoint readers in search of a book like Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City.”—The Washington Post On Long Island, a farmer finds a duck pond turned red with blood. On the Lower East Side, two boys discover a floating human torso wrapped tightly in oilcloth. Blueberry pickers near Harlem stumble upon neatly severed limbs in an overgrown ditch. The police are baffled: There are no witnesses, no motives, no suspects. The grisly finds that began on the afternoon of June 26, 1897, plunged detectives headlong into the era’s most perplexing murder mystery. Seized upon by battling media moguls Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst, the case became a publicity circus, as their rival newspapers the World and the Journal raced to solve the crime. What emerged was a sensational love triangle and an even more sensational trial. The Murder of the Century is a rollicking tale—a rich evocation of America during the Gilded Age and a colorful re-creation of the tabloid wars that forever changed newspaper journalism.

For the first time in years, things are looking up for both the school and the entire community. But all is not as it appears to be in the quaint little village of Canterbury, nor for that matter on the hollowed grounds of St. Anselm's. Long before the golf course is ready for play, long before the "cemeterium" is ready for those in need of eternal rest, dead bodies have begun popping up. A case crying out for Detective Quentin P. Montgomery? Not exactly. Montgomery doesn't have time to track down some two-bit pretender to the throne. He's after bigger fish to fry. In fact, the biggest fish of them all. The Almighty Unsub.

Book Farewell to N Djamena

Download or read book Farewell to N Djamena written by Isaac Benjamin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-06-06 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Farewell to NDjamena is a literally classic that carries out a narrative on the United Nation Mission in the Central Africa Republic and Chad (MINURCAT). The book examines the withdrawal of the European Force which gave way to MINURCAT Force activities in the region. Unfortunately one year later, the force was considered not to have attained its Humanitarian Mandate especially as the Presidential election was by the corner. Chad had made peace with the then old Sudan whose President had the ICJ hammer dangling on his neck for war crimes. All effort to get President Idriss Derby of Chad to extend MINURCAT Mandate proved abortive. Subsequently the mission began to wind up gradually. The author is of the view that the numerous political challenges and conflicts in African is caused by the greed of its leaders who have turned the institutions of governance to that of personal gains. Finally, the book will assist the United Nation Secretary General to know the challenges that faced MINURCAT which led to the resignation of the Special Representative of the Secretary General. It is a must read piece.

He wrote this book to "set the record straight" and provide some hope to families going through difficult times raising their children.
