Book Fate of Atrazine in Argentinean Soils

Download or read book Fate of Atrazine in Argentinean Soils written by Susana Hang and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book are shown the results of the atrazine behavior in Argentinean, conducted between 2001 and 2006. In the first work it was studied the behavior of atrazine in surface soils, and evaluated the effect of land use and how it affects the ability of soil to remove residual atrazine. In the second study it was evaluated two soil profiles characteristic of the province of Cordoba, and in each horizon, the effect of soil properties on the retention and degradation of atrazine mineralization was evaluated. The third study aimed to recognize the distribution along the profile of the soil's ability to mineralize atrazine. The soil sterilization was carried out to quantify chemical and biological degradation of atrazine. In the fourth and fifth paper it was analyzed different strategies of winter weed control and how weed management influenced on the atrazine persistence. In the sixth and final paper it is presented an original proposal to identify soils with rapid mineralization capacity of atrazine, based in corn crop history where atrazine is used. As a tool to reconstruct the history of the lot was used satellite images.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of two volumes that together provide a global overview of the impact of agriculture on soil degradation, tracing the most critical drivers like the use and abuse of agrochemicals, mechanization, overgrazing, irrigation, slash and burn agriculture, and the use of plastics. This book covers the main effects of agriculture practices on soil degradation in several countries from Africa, America, Asia, and Oceania, and it elucidates the impact of chemical agents on soil quality, namely, the use of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, soil acidification and microplastics pollution. In these continents, a large number of the population depend on agriculture, which sets an enormous pressure on the ecosystems. Divided into 13 chapters, the book offers authoritative contributions about the fundamental soil degradation problems in countries such as Argentina, Australia, Peru and Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Israel, Kenya, Mexico, South Africa, the United States of America. As soil degradation issues are often linked with biodiversity loss and poverty, readers will also find in this book an important discussion of the different social, economic, political, and environmental aspects contributing to soil quality and sustainable management. Given the breadth and depth of its coverage, the book offers an invaluable source of information for researchers, students, environmental managers and policymakers alike.

Book Agrochemicals in Soil and Environment

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume ‘Agrochemicals in Soil and Environment: Impacts and Remediation’ is a comprehensive collection of important literature on agrochemical contamination. The main focus of this book is to point out undesirable changes in biological, physical and chemical characteristics of agricultural soils and its impacts on global agricultural crop productivity. Soil is one of the important resources of basic needs for our sustenance but due to various anthropogenic activities like urbanization and industrialization, the soil is losing its basic quality characteristics. Soil microorganisms, water holding capacity, minerals, salts and nutrients are under the direct threat due to agrochemicals therefore, agricultural sector is facing a serious challenge. Lack of proper knowledge and luxurious applications of agrochemicals resulting into degradation and deterioration of soil quality, loss of soil and crop productivity and threatening the food security. Therefore, it is imperative to develop indices, indicators and soil parameters for the monitoring and impact assessment of agricultural contaminants. Further, biotic and abiotic stresses and their tolerance mechanisms in plants in relation to the soil contaminants such as toxic pollutants, heavy metals, inorganic and organic matters, variety of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, agricultural runoffs and solid wastes, and chemical fertilizers are also highlighted in this volume. This book also discusses causes of reduced agriculture productivity and suggests sustainable measures such as plant-based technologies, bioremediation and nanotechnology, that can be used to overcome the crop losses. The book is interest to research students, teachers, agricultural scientists, agronomists, environmentalists as well as policy makers.
