Book The Mechanisms of Fast Reactions in Solution

Download or read book The Mechanisms of Fast Reactions in Solution written by Edward Caldin and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published a few years after the author's death, this volume is a sequel to his 1964 book, Fast Reactions in Solution; the material is entirely new, extending investigation beyond now well-established fast-reaction techniques to consider their contribution to understanding events on the molecular scale. After an introductory chapter on origins, methods, mechanisms, and rate constants, coverage includes the rates of diffusion-controlled reactions, mathematical theory of diffusion, flash photolysis techniques, fluorescence quenching, Marcus theory involving proton-transfer and group-transfer reactions in solutions, and electron-transfer reactions. Book Physical Chemistry of Fast Reactions

Download or read book Physical Chemistry of Fast Reactions written by B. Levitt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this book are devoted to the elementary reactions of small molecules in the gas phase, with some emphasis on reactions important in combustion. The first three chapters cover experimental measurements made at high temperatures, mainly using shock waves and flames; the final chapter describes discharge flow methods near room temperature. The authors-all active in the fields they describe were asked to aim at a level intermediate between a textbook and a review, designed for readers not already familiar with this branch of chemical kinetics. We hope the book will prove especially useful to research workers in related subjects, to research students, and perhaps as source material for the preparation of lectures. The examples have been chosen to illustrate the theoretical basis of the topics rather than attempt a complete coverage. Professors Wagner and Troe describe the remarkable progress made in recent years in measuring dissociation rates for small molecules. Tests ofunimolecular reaction theories are usually made in the 'fall-off' region of pressure: the kinetics change from first order to second order as the pressure is reduced. For large molecules this region lies below atmospheric pressure and is relatively easily accessible. For molecules with four or less atoms, however, the fall-off region lies well above atmospheric pressure: it has been explored using the high pressure shock tube techniques developed by the authors.

Book Progress in Reaction Kinetics

Download or read book Progress in Reaction Kinetics written by G. Porter and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Reaction Kinetics discusses the main themes of chemical kinetics. It covers such topics as the reactions of halogen atoms and methylenes, mercury photosensitized reactions, anionic polymerization, cis trans-isomerisation, and protolytic reactions. The book provides a good illustration of the quantitative rate studies in biochemical systems. The experiments to determine the relative rate constants are shown and analyzed. The process of photosensitization involves absorption of light energy by a strongly absorbing substance. The methods to identify the reactions of carbonyl compounds, organic acids and esters are presented as well as the reactions of alcohols, ethers, and epoxides. The degree of reaction of some haem compounds is explained. A chapter of the book focuses on the kinetic treatment of processes that takes place in a series of steps. Such procedures are called consecutive processes. A sample of these is the rate-determining step approximation. The book will provide useful information to chemists, chemical engineers, students, and researchers.

Book Fast Reactions in Energetic Systems

Download or read book Fast Reactions in Energetic Systems written by Christos Capellos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the formal lectures and contributed papers given at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Fast Reactions in Energetic Systems, which took place in Preveza, Greece, during the period 6-19 July 1980. The material describes experimental observations and the more advanced theoretical aspects of certain types of fast reactions and energy or charge transfer processes which are usually complete 6 12 in periods of 10- - 10- seconds. Furthermore, it discusses the role of macroscopic and molecular processes in the ignition, combustion, deflagration, and detonation of solid, liquid, and gaseous chemical systems. Various papers deal with the ability of molecules to absorb and transmit the different forms of energy provided by shock, light, thermal, or electron pulses, and to contribute to the propagation of reactions under high temperatures and pressures. The role of energy pumped or transferred to electronic or vibrational states is discussed in terms of excitation, ionization, bond scission, and the formation of free radicals. The dynamics and reactivity of ionic species, electronically and vibrationally excited states, and free radicals are described for various gaseous, liquid, and solid systems. The proceedings include presentations of theoretical and experimental techniques to describe and observe the phenomena.
