Book Computational Aspects of Complex Analysis

Download or read book Computational Aspects of Complex Analysis written by K.E. Werner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced study Institute (ASI) on "Computational Aspects of Complex Analysis" was held at Braunlage/Harz (Germany) from July 26 to August 6, 1982. These proceedings contain the invited lectures presented at this institute, the aim of which was to bring together scientists from pure and applied mathematics as well as computer scientists. The main topics were problems dealing with approximation and interpolation by polynomial and rational functions (in particular Pade approximation), numerical methods for the solution of algebraic equations and differential equations, the large field of conformal mapping, aspects of computer imple mentation of complex arithmetic and calculations based on complex variable techniques. The sessions on short communications not only provided a platform for the presentation of contributions by the participants of the ASI but also the opportunity to discuss the material more thoroughly, to bring up open problems and to point out the inter relationship of the above mentioned topics. Quite naturally the short communications grouped around the topics of the main lectures. The stimulating atmosphere caused many discussions to continue privately for hours. Even out of the social program there emanated two short communications by L. Wuytack and L. Trefethen, which are included at the end of these proceedings. We gratefully appreciate the support of the International Advisory Committee that was formed by L. Collatz, Germany, C. Brezinski, France, G. Golub, U.S.A., P. Henrici, Switzerland, J. van Hulzen, the Netherlands, O. Skovgaard, Denmark, I. Sneddon, United Kingdom, and J. Todd, U.S.A.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing demand of speed, accuracy, and reliability in scientific and engineering computing has been accelerating the merging of symbolic and numeric computations. These two types of computation coexist in mathematics yet are separated in traditional research of mathematical computation. This book presents 27 research articles on the integration and interaction of symbolic and numeric computation.

Book Fundamental Problems of Algorithmic Algebra

Download or read book Fundamental Problems of Algorithmic Algebra written by Chee-Keng Yap and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 2000 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Popular computer algebra systems such as Maple, Macsyma, Mathematica, and REDUCE are now basic tools on most computers. Efficient algorithms for various algebraic operations underlie all these systems. Computer algebra, or algorithmic algebra, studies these algorithms and their properties and represents a rich intersection of theoretical computer science with classical mathematics. Fundamental Problems of Algorithmic Algebra provides a systematic and focused treatment of a collection of core problemsthe computational equivalents of the classical Fundamental Problem of Algebra and its derivatives. Topics covered include the GCD, subresultants, modular techniques, the fundamental theorem of algebra, roots of polynomials, Sturm theory, Gaussian lattice reduction, lattices and polynomial factorization, linear systems, elimination theory, Grobner bases, and more. Features · Presents algorithmic ideas in pseudo-code based on mathematical concepts and can be used with any computer mathematics system · Emphasizes the algorithmic aspects of problems without sacrificing mathematical rigor · Aims to be self-contained in its mathematical development · Ideal for a first course in algorithmic or computer algebra for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students

Book Structured Matrices

Download or read book Structured Matrices written by Dario Bini and published by Nova Biomedical Books. This book was released on 2001 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematicians from various countries assemble computational techniques that have developed and described over the past two decades to analyze matrices with structure, which are encountered in a wide variety of problems in pure and applied mathematics and in engineering. The 16 studies are on asymptotical spectral properties; algorithm design and analysis; issues specifically relating to structures, algebras, and polynomials; and image processing and differential equations. c. Book Numerical Methods for Large Eigenvalue Problems

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Large Eigenvalue Problems written by Yousef Saad and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition discusses numerical methods for computing eigenvalues and eigenvectors of large sparse matrices. It provides an in-depth view of the numerical methods that are applicable for solving matrix eigenvalue problems that arise in various engineering and scientific applications. Each chapter was updated by shortening or deleting outdated topics, adding topics of more recent interest, and adapting the Notes and References section. Significant changes have been made to Chapters 6 through 8, which describe algorithms and their implementations and now include topics such as the implicit restart techniques, the Jacobi-Davidson method, and automatic multilevel substructuring.

Book Linear Algebra Rational Approximation and Orthogonal Polynomials

Download or read book Linear Algebra Rational Approximation and Orthogonal Polynomials written by Adhemar Bultheel and published by North-Holland. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolving from an elementary discussion, this book develops the Euclidean algorithm to a very powerful tool to deal with general continued fractions, non-normal Padé tables, look-ahead algorithms for Hankel and Toeplitz matrices, and for Krylov subspace methods. It introduces the basics of fast algorithms for structured problems and shows how they deal with singular situations. Links are made with more applied subjects such as linear system theory and signal processing, and with more advanced topics and recent results such as general bi-orthogonal polynomials, minimal Padé approximation, polynomial root location problems in the complex plane, very general rational interpolation problems, and the lifting scheme for wavelet transform computation. The text serves as a supplement to existing books on structured linear algebra problems, rational approximation and orthogonal polynomials. Features of this book: • provides a unifying approach to linear algebra, rational approximation and orthogonal polynomials • requires an elementary knowledge of calculus and linear algebra yet introduces advanced topics. The book will be of interest to applied mathematicians and engineers and to students and researchers.

Book Polynomial and Matrix Computations

Download or read book Polynomial and Matrix Computations written by Dario Bini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Subjects and Objectives. This book is about algebraic and symbolic computation and numerical computing (with matrices and polynomials). It greatly extends the study of these topics presented in the celebrated books of the seventies, [AHU] and [BM] (these topics have been under-represented in [CLR], which is a highly successful extension and updating of [AHU] otherwise). Compared to [AHU] and [BM] our volume adds extensive material on parallel com putations with general matrices and polynomials, on the bit-complexity of arithmetic computations (including some recent techniques of data compres sion and the study of numerical approximation properties of polynomial and matrix algorithms), and on computations with Toeplitz matrices and other dense structured matrices. The latter subject should attract people working in numerous areas of application (in particular, coding, signal processing, control, algebraic computing and partial differential equations). The au thors' teaching experience at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and at the University of Pisa suggests that the book may serve as a text for advanced graduate students in mathematics and computer science who have some knowledge of algorithm design and wish to enter the exciting area of algebraic and numerical computing. The potential readership may also include algorithm and software designers and researchers specializing in the design and analysis of algorithms, computational complexity, alge braic and symbolic computing, and numerical computation.
