Book Fashioning Intellectual Property

Download or read book Fashioning Intellectual Property written by Megan Richardson and published by . This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vigorous public debate about intellectual property has a long history. In this assessment of the shifting relationships between the law and the economic, social and cultural sources of creativity and innovation during the long-nineteenth century, Megan Richardson and Julian Thomas examine the 'fashioning' of the law by focusing on emblematic cases, key legislative changes and broader debates. Along the way, the authors highlight how, in 'the age of journalism', the press shaped, and was shaped by, the idea of intellectual property as a protective crucible for improvements in knowledge and progress in the arts and sciences. The engagement in our own time between intellectual property and the creative industries remains volatile and unsettled. As the authors conclude, the fresh opportunities for artistic diversity, expression and communication offered by new media could see the place of intellectual property in the scheme of law being reinvented once again.

Book The Making of Modern Intellectual Property Law

Download or read book The Making of Modern Intellectual Property Law written by Brad Sherman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-07-08 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the common themes in recent public debate has been the law's inability to accommodate the new ways of creating, distributing and replicating intellectual products. In this book the authors argue that in order to understand many of the problems currently confronting the law, it is necessary to understand its past. This is its first detailed historical account. In this book the authors explore two related themes. First, they explain why intellectual property law came to take its now familiar shape with sub-categories of patents, copyright, designs and trade marks. Secondly, the authors set out to explain how it is that the law grants property status to intangibles. In doing so they explore the rise and fall of creativity as an organising concept in intellectual property law, the mimetic nature of intellectual property law and the important role that the registration process plays in shaping intangible property.

Book Intellectual Property in Fashion EU Vs India

Download or read book Intellectual Property in Fashion EU Vs India written by Nainy Singh and published by Self Publication. This book was released on 2023-03-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intellectual property (IP) refers to the legal rights that protect the creations of the mind, including inventions, artistic works, designs, and symbols. In the fashion industry, IP plays a crucial role in protecting the designs and trademarks of fashion brands. This title, "Intellectual Property in Fashion: EU vs. India," suggests a comparison of the IP laws and practices in the European Union (EU) and India, with a focus on the fashion industry. The EU is known for its strong IP protection regime, which includes trademarks, patents, designs, and copyright. On the other hand, India has a relatively weaker IP protection regime, but it has been making efforts to improve its IP laws in recent years. The title may explore various aspects of IP in fashion, such as the registration and enforcement of trademarks and designs, the protection of fashion designs under copyright, the use of geographical indications and traditional knowledge, and the challenges of combating counterfeiting and piracy in the fashion industry. Overall, this title suggests a comparative analysis of the IP laws and practices in two different regions and their impact on the fashion industry.

Book Intellectual Property and the Common Law

Download or read book Intellectual Property and the Common Law written by Shyamkrishna Balganesh and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-09-02 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, leading scholars of intellectual property and information policy examine what the common law - a method of reasoning, an approach to rule making, and a body of substantive law - can contribute to discussions about the scope, structure and function of intellectual property. The book presents an array of methodologies, substantive areas and normative positions, tying these concepts together by looking to the common law for guidance. Drawing on interdisciplinary ideas and principles that are embedded within the working of common law, it shows that the answers to many of modern intellectual property law's most puzzling questions may be found in the wisdom, versatility and adaptability of the common law. The book argues that despite the degree of interdisciplinary specialization in the field, intellectual property is fundamentally a creation of the law; therefore, the basic building blocks of the law can shed important light on what intellectual property can and should (and was perhaps meant to) be.

Book Fashioning Identity

  • Author : Maria Mackinney-Valentin
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2017-02-09
  • ISBN : 1474249124
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Fashioning Identity written by Maria Mackinney-Valentin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-02-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We dress to communicate who we are, or who we would like others to think we are, telling seductive fashion narratives through our adornment. Yet, today, fashion has been democratized through high-low collaborations, social media and real-time fashion mediation, complicating the basic dynamic of identity displays, and creating tension between personal statements and social performances. Fashioning Identity explores how this tension is performed through fashion production and consumption,by examining a diverse series of case studies - from ninety-year old fashion icons to the paradoxical rebellion in 'normcore', and from soccer jerseys in Kenya to heavy metal band T-shirts in Europe. Through these cases, the role of time, gender, age memory, novelty, copying, the body and resistance are considered within the context of the contemporary fashion scene. Offering a fresh approach to the subject by readdressing Fred Davis' seminal concept of 'identity ambivalence' in Fashion, Culture and Identity (1992), Mackinney-Valentin argues that we are in an epoch of 'status ambivalence', in which fashioning one's own identity has become increasingly complicated.

Book The Luxury Economy and Intellectual Property

Download or read book The Luxury Economy and Intellectual Property written by Haochen Sun and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-08-26 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intellectual property law plays a pivotal role in ensuring that luxury goods companies can recoup their investments in the creation and dissemination of their copyrighted works, trademarked logos, and patented designs. In 2011, global sales for luxury goods reached about $250 billion, and consumers in East and Southeast Asia accounted for more than 50 percent of that figure. The rapid expansion of the market has prompted some retailers to wield intellectual property against the influx of imitators and counterfeiters. The Luxury Economy and Intellectual Property comprehensively explores the rise of the luxury goods economy and the growing role of intellectual property in creating, sustaining, and regulating this economy. Leading scholars across various disciplines critically consider the industry, its foundational intellectual property laws, and the public interest and social concerns arising from the intersection of economics and law. Topics covered include defining the concept of luxury, the social life of luxury goods, concerns about distributive justice in a world flooded by luxury goods and knockoffs, the globalization of luxury goods, and the economic, social, and political ramifications of the meteoric rise of the Asian luxury goods market.
