Download or read book Untethered written by Esther K. Marks and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2024-05-29 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you feel heavy? Perhaps you need to untether yourself from the lies and trauma spoken over your life in order to live in transparent freedom. In Untethered, author Esther K. Marks tells her life story, exploring her emotional challenges and traumas and describing the healing that began the moment she surrendered to the love of her heavenly Father. In the Bible, the woman Jesus meets at the well had been married five times and was living with another man. Jesus chose her to reveal himself publicly as the Messiah. He went to a worldly woman tethered with sin. Similarly, through six failed marriages, Esther struggled with hurt and anger. She had been shunned at her church, gossiped about, and asked to not sit in the front seat. Just about the time she had decided to kill herself, Jesus spoke to her and saved her life. Thus, the untethering of her pain and suffering began, with God freeing her from the lies and curses that had been spoken over her. Now Esther has set out to share her anointing from Holy Spirit to help others learn what they are tethered to so they can be delivered for kingdom work.
Download or read book Preaching for a Verdict written by J. Josh Smith and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those who preach have been called to deliver the truth, and must do so with a conviction that every truth demands a response. J. Josh Smith aims to start a conversation about the role of exhortation in preaching. With emphasis on the biblical and theological foundation for exhortation, and attention to how exhortation is used in both Old and New Testaments, Smith makes a compelling argument that preaching must include both explanation and exhortation. Preaching for a Verdict also provides practical steps to implement effective exhortation in preaching, and offers a variety of biblical models of exhortation to equip the reader to deliver the message of Christ with authority. Text-driven preaching demands text-driven exhortation.

Download or read book Writing Blackness written by James W. Coleman and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most critically acclaimed yet least recognized contemporary writers, African American author John Edgar Wideman creates work often described as difficult, even unfathomable. In Writing Blackness, James Coleman examines Wideman's prolific body of work with the goal of making his often elusive imagery and dense style more accessible and thus broadening his readership. More so than for most writers, Coleman shows, Wideman's life has affected his writing. Born in 1941, Wideman grew up in a Pittsburgh suburb where he attended an integrated high school, starred on the basketball team, and was senior class president and valedictorian. At the University of Pennsylvania he studied creative writing and became an all--Ivy League basketball player. Winning a Rhodes scholarship, he studied at Oxford, after which he returned to Penn and became its first black tenured professor. Wideman published his first novel, A Glance Away, at age twenty-six and by 1973 had published two more works of fiction. But for all this success, something began to wear on him. In 1973, his grandmother died, and after listening to family stories when he traveled home for the funeral, Wideman began to change his world view. Between 1973 and 1981 Wideman published nothing and immersed himself in African American culture, reading widely and -- even more important -- moving much closer to his family. Since 1981, Wideman has refocused his life and writing on blackness and published twelve experimental works, all very different from his earlier books. Coleman examines nearly all of Wideman's work, from A Glance Away (1967) to Fanon (2008). He shows how Wideman has developed a unique style that combines elements of fiction, biography, memoir, history, legend, folklore, waking life, and dream in innovative ways in an effort to grasp the meaning of blackness -- an effort that makes his writing challenging but that holds more than ample rewards for the perceptive reader. In Writing Blackness, Coleman demonstrates why Wideman ranks among the best of contemporary American writers.

Book excerpt: He's Lookin' At You, Kid! shares how a loving heavenly Father will not take His eyes off us because of His great love. He knew exactly who we would be before we were born. He watched as we entered this life knowing the pain that we would inevitably face because we live in a "fallen" world, and He continues to 'look' out for our well being as He guides and directs our lives. Brenda Ingraham has experienced God's loving, watchful eye on her life. He was there during her nightclub singing days when she contemplated suicide and when she was told she would never sing again after having throat surgery. He was there when she was devastated by divorce. He was there as she faced breast cancer twice and suffered through seven breast cancer related surgeries in six years. He was there for the passing of her parents and a brother within a two-year span as He welcomed them 'home.' He was there to deliver her brother, John, from the homosexual lifestyle. He was there and He will continue to be there for each and every thing we face because of the unfathomable love He has for His children! He's Lookin' At You, Kid! For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. - 2 Chronicles 16:9
