Book Emotions and the Family

Download or read book Emotions and the Family written by Richard Fabes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The family is the place where minds come in contact with one anotherBuddha Emotions and the Family reflects the dramatic change in how professionals and practitioners working with today's families view the role of emotions in general family and marital processes. Professionals, researchers, and academics present a wide variety of approaches to the study of emotion and family functioning, providing a rare theoretical and empirical look at how emotions regulate, guide, and influence actions and behaviors within the family. This unique book will provide you with new avenues of research, theory, measurement, and analysis, emphasizing contexts that range from the focus on specific relationships within the family to the impact of contextual influences in family emotionality. Emotions and the Family examines the shift that has taken place in how practitioners and therapists view emotionsas having important interpsychic functions instead of as a function of intrapsychic processes. The book will show you how emotions are involved in almost every aspect of family development: from the beginnings of the family formation (dating, courting, and marriage) to the transition to parenthood (pregnancy, birth, bonding, and attachment) to the dissolution of family relationships (divorce, death). Authors discuss aspects of how the fabric of family life is woven together by the complex interplay of emotions, with essential information on: marital/family relationships parenting socialization sibling relationships family health dysfunctional family processes family therapy and much more! Emotions and the Family functions as an invaluable textbook for graduate studies in family sciences, child development, psychology, social work, and sociology. The book is equally effective as a professional resource for clinical practitioners in psychology, marriage and family therapy, and social work.

Book Marital Satisfaction and Parental Mental Health in Association with Secure Base Provision to School Age Children

Download or read book Marital Satisfaction and Parental Mental Health in Association with Secure Base Provision to School Age Children written by Kendra Oosterhouse and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current study examines interrelations among family factors in a sample of married couples with children in middle childhood. Specifically, this study tested the associations between parents' mental health, marital satisfaction, and provision of a secure base through emotional sensitivity to the child. We further explored bidirectional and moderation effects between spouses. Participants included 86 heterosexual couples residing in the North Texas community. Using the actor-partner interdependence model, multilevel modeling results indicated that both spouse's mental health symptomology and relationship satisfaction are linked to parent's self-perceived ability to provide a secure base; several gender effects were also found. Additionally, actor relationship satisfaction significantly moderated the association between actor mental health symptomology and secure-base provision. In the context of low actor satisfaction, as the actor's mental health symptomology increases, secure-base provision also increases; however, in the context of high actor satisfaction, as actor's mental health symptomology increases, secure-base provision decreases. Additionally, partner relationship satisfaction significantly moderated the association between partner mental health symptomology and actor secure-base provision. In the context of low partner satisfaction, as partner mental health symptomology increases, actor secure-base provision increases; however, in the context of high partner satisfaction, as partner mental health symptomology increases, actor secure-base provision decreases. Spill-over, compensatory, and cross-over hypotheses, strengths, limitations, implications, and future directions are discussed.

Book Partners Expect Personality Congruence and Convergence as Predictors of Marital Satisfaction

This book was released on 2022-10-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION Marriage is a social institution known to exist among the human race ever since the human civilization has evolved. It is been unique to human beings as no other living being shows the complex and organised living system of family and marriage. Family being the essential aspect of human culture represents the distinctiveness and prominence of this intimate relationship that is established in our society. In this sense, marriage offers the vital structure for creating family relationships which leads in expansion, by way of producing the next generation (Larson & Holman, 1994). Marriage is considered as a lifelong union between partners which is both legally and socially accepted and it contains commitment from partners in terms of sexual, economic and social rights (Bachrach, Hindin, & Thomas, 2000). Accordingly, marriage can be defined as a social union tied with rights and duties for husband and wife towards their children and sharing economic responsibilities while living together. All the cultures across the world have shown evidence of marriage. No matter what culture we belong to, more than 90% of us are expected to marry once in our lifetime (Epstein & Guttman, 1984). Marriage is the start of a new endeavour in an individual's life and subsequently it marks the first step towards the fulfilment of social expectations and responsibility. Although, getting married is no longer a requirement for social acceptance and advancement (Cherlin, 2004). In the past people used to marry for all the social status marriage guaranteed to them but things have changed today. It has become more of a personal accomplishment and a stage in self growth and development (Bulcraft, Bulcraft, Bradley, & Simpson, 2000). However, it still provides legal and social approval for having children in third world countries. It won't be wrong to state that marriage changes the couples' status permanently. They become one family unit that share all the social, legal, financial and emotional responsibilities towards each other and bring in the next generation. It is just not only a social obligation one enters due to societal expectations but also, it is equally vital for the personal satisfaction and development of an individual. It is universally acknowledged that all social institutions have an impact on the well-being of an individual, interestingly, not all have the equal degree. Marriage is one such institution which is deeply.
