  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 191 pages

Download or read book Current Drift written by Kate Sheeran Swed and published by Spells & Spaceships Press. This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For once, Sloane Tarnish is actually winning. The resistance movement against the Cosmic Trade Federation? Winning. The plan to keep her badly behaving uncle restrained and out of the way? Also winning. Her love life? Totally winning, thank you very much. But nothing ever stays simple for long. When Sloane and her crew interrupt the CTF's plans to mess with the Currents that make fast travel possible throughout the galaxy, they inadvertently damage the technology. The alien technology, which they know precious little about. Sloane doesn't relish the idea of getting trapped in a galaxy without Current-quick travel. Worse, though, is the devastating effect the Current seems to be having on Gareth Fortune–whose psychic connection with the tech is putting him in danger. When disaster strikes within the Current, though, they face a devastating new choice: fix the technology to save the galaxy–or strengthen Gareth's psychic connection, risking his life in the process. Forget winning; at this point, Sloane will settle for survival.

Book A Time to Attack

Download or read book A Time to Attack written by Matthew Kroenig and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iran's advanced nuclear program may be the world's most important emerging international security challenge. If not stopped, a nuclear-capable Iran will mean an even more crisis-prone Middle East, a potential nuclear-arms race in the region and around the world, and an increased risk of nuclear war against Israel and the United States, among many other imminent global threats. Matthew Kroenig, internationally recognized as one of the world's leading authorities on Iran's nuclear program, explains why we need to take immediate steps to a diplomatic and, if necessary, a military solution - now - before Iran makes any further nuclear advances. A Time to Attack provides an authoritative account of the history of Iran's nuclear program and the international community's attempts to stop it. Kroenig explains and assesses the options available to policymakers, and reflects on what the resolution of the Iranian nuclear challenge will mean for the future of international order. This dramatic call to action provides an insider's account of what is being said in Washington about what our next move must be as the crisis continues to develop.

Book A Proposed New Handbook for the Federal Emergency Management Agency

Download or read book A Proposed New Handbook for the Federal Emergency Management Agency written by Carsten M. Haaland and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is proposed to replace the portion of the current Handbook for Radiological Monitoring that deals with protection of people in shelters from radiation from fallout resulting from nuclear war. Basic information at a high-school level is given on how to detect nuclear radiation, how to find and improve the safest places in a shelter, the necessity for and how to keep records on individual radiation exposures, and how to minimize exposures. Several new procedures are introduced, some of which are based more on theoretical considerations than on actual experiments. These procedures include: (1) the method of time-averaging radiation readings taken with one instrument in different locations of a large shelter while fallout is coming down and radiation levels are climbing too rapidly for direct comparison of readings to determine the safest location; (2) the method of using one's own body to obtain directionality in radiation readings taken with a standard Civil Defense survey meter; (3) the method of using mutual shielding to reduce the average radiation exposure to shelter occupants; and (4) the ratio method for estimating radiation levels in hazardous areas.
