Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From watching his colleague get shot in the testicles by a jealous producer to running Hollywood’s most successful television studio, Harris Katleman had a front row seat in the development of the television industry. Destined to become a classic account of the business side of entertainment, this book shares what really happened in the early careers of Hollywood stars and the development of iconic programs. Through a number of hilarious accounts, Harris Katleman shares his journey from office boy to talent agent to television producer, and finally to studio head at both MGM and 20th Century Fox. Along the way, we meet industry giants including Rupert Murdoch, Bob Iger, Barry Diller, Marvin Davis, Kirk Kerkorian, Mark Goodson, and Lew Wasserman. This goes beyond the story of a life in Hollywood. It is the story of crucial developments—how motion picture film libraries were opened for television licensing, how The Simpsons was birthed, and much more. It is also a collection of vital life lessons for anyone aspiring to establish a career in Hollywood. The names are so famous and the stories so lively that this book reads like it was written about today’s Hollywood.

Book You Can t Fall off the Floor

Download or read book You Can t Fall off the Floor written by Ben Watford and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-11-02 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can anything good come out of Winton? The King James Version of the Holy Bible relates an episode in which Jesus Christ was choosing men to become Disciples. Phillip was sent to invite Nathanael to join the other followers. When Phillip informed Nathanael that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the Messiah, Nathanael asked, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Nazareth, like Winton, was not a place in which one would expect to find greatness. The negative label that too often has been placed on small, rural towns and their people can become a self-fulfilling prophesy. Unless an individual has a healthy view of self, he or she may live down to the level of popular perception. I spent a fair amount of my youth living with the socially assigned designation of country kid. The inference of this distinction was that I lacked many of the virtues that were automatically attributed to city kids. That may have been true, but the net result was that it motivated me to prove that something good could come out of Winton. As Phillip did to Nathanael, in this book, we invite all to come and see.

Book How Did the Wheel Fall Off the Roller Coaster

Download or read book How Did the Wheel Fall Off the Roller Coaster written by Frank Snowden-Brubaker and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not just a compilation of rants about how messed up the machining industry is—everybody knows that, right? Poor workmanship, a workforce that doesn’t care . . . head fake! I don’t believe that, and neither should you. If it were up to you and me, we would all want to be properly trained, and we’d all want to put out a good product—something to be proud of. Who wouldn’t want to tell their kids, “See that bridge over there? I helped design it” or “I poured the molds for the castings” or “I made the rivets that hold that thing together”? We all want to be able to brag about what we’ve contributed to the overall. But no, this book is meant to completely change the machining world as we know it. I want to be instrumental as the driving force—to personally spearhead a movement to turn this industry around and make it safe for everyone to drive across bridges, live near an oil pipeline, or maybe even ride a roller coaster without the actual fear that, yes, you might die. The good news is, the status quo can be changed. We can all live in a world where quality and engineering decisions can be made by inspectors and engineers instead of corporate executives. And the time to make that change is now!
