Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overthinking, 16 year old, Elli Matthews has finally given up on her maybe, sort of, sometimes boyfriend. Sometimes as in he only likes her when no one else is around. Flirting in private and completely ignoring her in public is not the way to a girl’s heart. She’s closing that chapter of her life while Eric is busy grasping for any reason to be alone with her so he can finally tell her how he feels. Too little too late? When Eric’s best friend shows interest, in public, with people watching, lots of people, what girl could resist a little harmless flirting? Only, hanging out with Jagger may not be so harmless. He’s not exactly a one girl kind of guy. Drunken one night stands are more his style but for a chick like Elli, he just might be willing to change his ways. Hold on, does this mean Eric is single? Jenna sure hopes so because she’s sick of trying not to fall completely and totally in love with him behind her best friend’s back. Hmmm, Elli may be over Eric ‘cause she’s totally under Jagger, but how would she feel about her bestie and her exie getting together? Wait, who likes who now? Friendships take a backseat to relationships and some of them may never recover. High school love is so confusing. It’s a good thing all of them take you along on their journeys. Four perspectives. One story. One happily ever after. …For now.

Now that he’s assigned to protect her on this op, he’ll do it at all costs, even if she tempts him as no other woman ever has. Book excerpt: Who says you can’t fall in love in an instant? ELLA I fell in love on a ferry. Sounds like the tagline for a cheesy made-for-tv movie, doesn’t it? But for me, Ella Michaels from Westmount Island, it’s the truth. Marcus is nothing like me. He’s confident, bold, sexy, and oh, did I mention he’s a millionaire? And for some reason, he’s apparently crazy about me. Even though most of my friends are from the books I read, I can’t use a real swear word without sweating, and I spend my days with children. MARCUS I did not want to come to this island. I definitely did not want to enjoy small-town life. I absolutely did not want to fall for a woman who puts cartoon princesses to shame with her beauty and heart. But that’s exactly what happened the second I met Ella. She’s the calm to my storm, and she’s forcing me to re-evaluate what’s really important in life.

Book Idealism

  • Author : Tyron Goldschmidt
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2017
  • ISBN : 0198746970
  • Pages : 314 pages

Download or read book Idealism written by Tyron Goldschmidt and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Idealism is a family of metaphysical views each of which gives priority to the mental. The best-known forms of idealism in Western philosophy are Berkeleyan idealism, which gives ontological priority to the mental (minds and ideas) over the physical (bodies), and Kantian idealism, which gives a kind of explanatory priority to the mental (the structure of the understanding) over the physical (the structure of the empirical world). Although idealism was once a dominant view in Western philosophy, it has suffered almost total neglect over the last several decades. This book rectifies this situation by bringing together seventeen essays by leading philosophers on the topic of metaphysical idealism. The various essays explain, attack, or defend a variety of idealistic theories, including not only Berkeleyan and Kantian idealisms but also those developed in traditions less familiar to analytic philosophers, including Buddhism and Hassidic Judaism. Although a number of the articles draw on historical sources, all will be of interest to philosophers working in contemporary metaphysics. This volume aims to spark a revival of serious philosophical interest in metaphysical idealism.

Book Galileo

  • Author : John L. Heilbron
  • Publisher : OUP Oxford
  • Release : 2010-10-14
  • ISBN : 0191625027
  • Pages : 528 pages

Download or read book Galileo written by John L. Heilbron and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2010-10-14 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just over four hundred years ago, in 1610, Galileo published the Siderius nuncius, or Starry Messenger, a 'hurried little masterpiece' in John Heilbron's words. Presenting to the world his remarkable observations using the recently invented telescope - of the craters of the moon, and the satellites of Jupiter, observations that forced changes to perceptions of the perfection of the heavens and the centrality of the Earth - the appearance of the little book is regarded as one of the greatest moments in the history of science. It was also a point of change in the life of Galileo himself, propelling him from professor to prophet. But this is not the biography of a mathematician. Certainly he spent the first half of his career as a professor of mathematics and has been called 'the divine mathematician'. Yet he was no more (or less) a mathematician than he was a musician, artist, writer, philosopher, or gadgeteer. This fresh lively new biography of the 'father of science' paints a rounded picture of Galileo, and places him firmly within the rich texture of late Renaissance Florence, Pisa, and Padua, amid debates on the merits of Ariosto and Tasso, and the geometry of Dante's Inferno - debates in which the young Galileo played an active role. Galileo's character and career followed complex paths, moving from the creative but cautious humanist professor to a 'knight errant, quixotic and fearless', with increasing enemies, and leading ultimately and inevitably to a clash with a pope who was a former friend.
