Book FairWays to Leadership

Download or read book FairWays to Leadership written by Eric Boyd and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2023-12-02 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives take many forms. One is to help members of underrepresented groups increase their opportunities for professional development, networking, finding mentors, and accessing opportunities such as those that occur on the golf course, where executives often "audition" potential new hires or identify high-potential candidates for advancement. It is not a level playing field. Golf is still a boys' club--a White boys' club. Dr. Eric Boyd is on a mission to promote golf literacy for the purpose of advancing social inclusion, diversity and equitable professional opportunities in the workplace. In this book he focuses on the importance of practicing on the course six key leadership traits that are woven through each chapter-Curiosity, Adaptability, Empowerment, Integrity, Mindfulness, Strategy. He teaches his students and his readers how to demonstrate their leadership skills, improve their networking abilities, and "close the deal" by ensuring a follow-up invitation"--

Book Golf And The Game Of Leadership

Download or read book Golf And The Game Of Leadership written by Donald E McHugh and published by Orient Paperbacks. This book was released on 2008-12-30 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: McHugh, a former executive with General Motors and Owens-Illinois, believes that golf is a perfect analogy for the corporate boardroom game. By transferring the strategies that work on the course to the office, chances are one will be able to stand out as a leader. The best golfers are passionate about the game and are willing to put in hours of practice. Similarly, according to the author, effective leaders are zealous in their convictions that their behavior will motivate and help others to succeed as well. The chapters - for each of 18-holes of a round of golf - feature leadership principles such as "Focus," "Courage," "Responsibility" and "Recognize Positive Results." Each chapter, offers numerous anecdotes about both golf and the business world. The book does not attempt to teach or train people to be leaders. The focus instead is to help you in your efforts to learn how to lead more effectively.

Book Fairways and Dreams

Download or read book Fairways and Dreams written by Michael Arkush and published by Thomas Nelson Inc. This book was released on 1998-03-01 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The game," writes Michael Arkush, "is a rite of passage for the father sharing his expertise with the child he is training for the future--the same child who, almost inevitably, will dethrone him at the first opportunity." All of the 25 professional golfers who relate their tales of golf life with Dad eventually did out-drive, out-chip, and out-putt their old men, but all acknowledge appreciatively the essential roles their fathers played in the journey, and it is to them that they offer homage. Interestingly, the lasting legacies go beyond the essentials on grip and stance: it is the intangibles that fly the course from tee to green here. Jack Nicklaus thanks his father for instilling self-confidence; Arnold Palmer praises his father for teaching him how to lose; Amy Alcott is grateful that her father let her know the only barriers in her way were those of her own making; Calvin Peete extols his father's insistence that he be a leader, not a follower. If Fairways and Dreams fairly overdoses on its own inspiration and sweetness, that's its intention; you'll find testimonials worth respecting, and lessons worth learning and remembering. --Jeff Silverman

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jason Ridge and Buck Wheeler were born to play golf, in fact they might as well have been born on the golf course. They won so many events as young amateurs that the press nicknamed them “The Two,” a name they hated with a passion. After a stellar career in high school and college, they made their way to the ranks of professional golf, as a team, with Buck on the bag, and Jason lighting up the Nationwide Tour. It didn’t take long for the golf world to demand that these “Two” golfing greats face each other in a head-to-head match. The Two would not disappoint the golfing public, but more importantly, they would not disappoint each other or do anything that would damage the true friendship that they held much higher than any championship.

Book Fair Ways

  • Author : Robert J. Robertson
  • Publisher : Texas A&M University Press
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN : 1603446109
  • Pages : 262 pages

Download or read book Fair Ways written by Robert J. Robertson and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation In the summer of 1955, six African American golfers in Beaumont, Texas, began attacking the Jim Crow caste system when they filed a federal lawsuit for the right to play the municipal golf course. The golfers and their African American lawyers went to federal court and asked a conservative white Republican judge to render a decision that would not only integrate the local golf course but also set precedent for desegregation of other public facilities. In Fair Ways, Robert J. Robertson chronicles three parallel stories that converged in this important case. He tells the story of the plaintiffs-avid golfers who had learned the game while working as caddies and waiters-of their young lawyers, recent graduates from Howard University law school, and of the Republican judge just appointed to the bench by President Eisenhower. Using public case papers, public records, newspapers, and oral histories, Robertson has recreated the scene in Beaumont on the eve of desegregation. Fair Ways gives a vivid picture of racial segregation and the forces that brought about its end.

Book The Communicators

Download or read book The Communicators written by Richard S. Levick and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Communicators: Leadership in the Age of Crisis redefines the professional strategies and personal qualities that this current age of incessant crisis demands of leaders in corporate C-suites, boardrooms, courtrooms, and in the corridors of political power. Drawing on dozens of extensive interviews with prominent leaders who describe and reflect on their most significant experiences, Richard Levick and Charles Slack underscore the heightened challenges and instantaneous risks that confront global managers in an age of digital media and intensified regulatory pressure. The book is designed for executives who want to learn from the best practices of others who have so ably responded to the conflicting demands of multiple audiences and stakeholders. In an age defined by crisis and its four horsemen - speed, transparency, media by sequel, and exorcised regulation - the book serves as a survival guide for business leaders and public figures in the eye of the storm. As Steve Forbes points out in his foreword, leadership today is tied as never before to effective communications and to how we respond to crisis. By setting the tone at the top, today's leaders are the stewards of capitalism.
