Book The Naked Industrial Officer

Download or read book The Naked Industrial Officer written by Stephen W. Rooke and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-12-11 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not a text book. It is what one person has learnt over more than half a century in a range of industries, locations and positions. It is designed to be read easily by anyone interested in a career in industrial relations or human resources or who is just curious as to what this vaguely understood activity is all about. I’ve tried to write in the conversational style I would use if I were sitting with you in an office or a tutorial room. Each page contains only one or two thoughts, so some pages are quite short. That’s to help you think about what I have to say. I’ve tried to cover the full ambit of the industrial officer role so, naturally, it has not been possible in a book of this size to address every aspect in full detail. Where I think it might be useful, I’ve referred to the works of other authors that deal with some subjects in much greater detail than I do here. Why ‘The Naked Industrial Officer title’? I use the name ‘industrial officer’, even though it is somewhat outdated in many organisations. I use it to cover all positions that fall within the ranks of the industrial relations profession. I have used the word ‘naked’ in the title as I will be attempting to strip away much of the mystery that surrounds industrial relations in the eyes of other branches of management. And for those who are new to the profession.

Book United States Code

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1506 pages

Download or read book United States Code written by United States and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 1506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The United States Code is the official codification of the general and permanent laws of the United States of America. The Code was first published in 1926, and a new edition of the code has been published every six years since 1934. The 2012 edition of the Code incorporates laws enacted through the One Hundred Twelfth Congress, Second Session, the last of which was signed by the President on January 15, 2013. It does not include laws of the One Hundred Thirteenth Congress, First Session, enacted between January 2, 2013, the date it convened, and January 15, 2013. By statutory authority this edition may be cited "U.S.C. 2012 ed." As adopted in 1926, the Code established prima facie the general and permanent laws of the United States. The underlying statutes reprinted in the Code remained in effect and controlled over the Code in case of any discrepancy. In 1947, Congress began enacting individual titles of the Code into positive law. When a title is enacted into positive law, the underlying statutes are repealed and the title then becomes legal evidence of the law. Currently, 26 of the 51 titles in the Code have been so enacted. These are identified in the table of titles near the beginning of each volume. The Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives continues to prepare legislation pursuant to 2 U.S.C. 285b to enact the remainder of the Code, on a title-by-title basis, into positive law. The 2012 edition of the Code was prepared and published under the supervision of Ralph V. Seep, Law Revision Counsel. Grateful acknowledgment is made of the contributions by all who helped in this work, particularly the staffs of the Office of the Law Revision Counsel and the Government Printing Office"--Preface.

Book Identifying and Managing Risk at Work

Download or read book Identifying and Managing Risk at Work written by Chris L. Peterson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-25 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a focus on five major regions globally (UK, US, Europe, Canada, and Australia) Identifying and Managing Risk at Work outlines key regional factors affecting risk and its management. This volume looks at the social production and social construction of risk as well as taking a labour-process approach and socio-political perspective to investigate the nature and causes of work-related risk. In addition, there are several issues included that contribute to identifying risk at work such as climate change, the "gig" economy and the "Me Too" movement. Readers will gain a picture of some of the major current issues that are affecting risk under globalisation. Drawing on these key aspects of risk, students, academics, practitioners, and policy-makers will gain a better understanding of how risk is conceptualised and identified, and of the roles of management and employees in dealing with risk. This book will be of interest to researchers and practitioners to help gain an understanding of risk for a number of regions, and how several current issues in globalisation can be seen in their risk context.

Book A New American Labor Movement

Download or read book A New American Labor Movement written by William E. Scheuerman and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American labor movement isn't dead. It's just moving from the bargaining table to the streets. In A New American Labor Movement, William Scheuerman analyzes how the decline of unions and the emergence of these new direct-action movements are reshaping the American labor movement. Tens of thousands of exploited workers—from farm laborers and gig drivers to freelance artists and restaurant workers—have taken to the streets in a collective attempt to attain a living wage and decent working conditions, with or without the help of unions. This new worker militancy, expressed through mass demonstrations, strikes, sit-ins, political action, and similar activities, has already achieved much success and offers models for workers to exercise their power in the twenty-first century. Finally, Scheuerman notes, many of the strategies of the new direct-action groups share features with the sectoral bargaining model that dominates the European labor movement, suggesting that sectoral bargaining may become the foundation of a new American labor movement.
