Book Fair Allocations of a Renewable Resource

Download or read book Fair Allocations of a Renewable Resource written by Joel Kenneth Sobel and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an economy with finitely many agents, one renewable resource and an infinite horizon, it is shown that there is exactly one maximal allocation corresponding to given limiting shares of consumption and this allocation converges monotonically. Therefore, if there is no discounting, at most one fair maximal program exists - that which gives an equal amount to each individual in the limit. In this allocation, envy is always finite. However, only in special cases is it envy-free. This is in contrast to the case of finite economies where envy-free and Pareto efficient allocations may not exist, or if they exist may not be unique. Book Integration of Renewable Generation and Elastic Loads into Distribution Grids

Download or read book Integration of Renewable Generation and Elastic Loads into Distribution Grids written by Omid Ardakanian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-11 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief examines the challenges of integrating distributed energy resources and high-power elastic loads into low-voltage distribution grids, as well as the potential for pervasive measurement. It explores the control needed to address these challenges and achieve various system-level and user-level objectives. A mathematical framework is presented for the joint control of active end-nodes at scale, and extensive numerical simulations demonstrate that proper control of active end-nodes can significantly enhance reliable and economical operation of the power grid.

Book Sustainable Urban Design

Download or read book Sustainable Urban Design written by Adam Ritchie and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the end of the twenty-first century it is thought that three-quarters of the world’s population will be urban; our future is in cities. Making these cities healthy, vibrant and sustainable is an exceptional challenge which this book addresses. It sets out some of the basic principles of the design of our future cities and, through a series of carefully-selected case studies from leading designers’ experience, illustrates how these ideas can be put into practice. Building on the first edition's original format of design guidance and case studies, this new edition updates the ideas and techniques resulting from further research and practice by the contributors. This book emphasises the enormous progress made towards exciting new designs that integrate good design with resource efficiency.

Book Collective Choice and Social Welfare

Download or read book Collective Choice and Social Welfare written by Amartya Sen and published by . This book was released on 2018-05-17 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1970, this classic study has been recognized for its groundbreaking role in integrating economics and ethics, and for its influence in opening up new areas of research in social choice, including aggregative assessment. It has also had a large influence on international organizations, including the United Nations, notably in its work on human development. The book showed that the "impossibility theorems" in social choice theory--led by the pioneering work of Kenneth Arrow--do not negate the possibility of reasoned and democratic social choice. Sen's ideas about social choice, welfare economics, inequality, poverty, and human rights have continued to evolve since the book's first appearance. This expanded edition preserves the text of the original while presenting eleven new chapters of fresh arguments and results. "Expanding on the early work of Condorcet, Pareto, Arrow, and others, Sen provides rigorous mathematical argumentation on the merits of voting mechanisms...For those with graduate training, it will serve as a frequently consulted reference and a necessity on one's book shelf." --J. F. O'Connell, Choice
