Download or read book Money and Life written by Michael Z. Stahl and published by Silver Lake Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The follow-up to the well-reviewed Early to Rise, this is a book on money and life for recent grads--written by a recent grad. Many books give young people good advice, but often are condescending. Stahl is a peer, who gives readers the practical advice they need to avoid common mistakes involving credit and cash flow. But, more importantly, he makes the case that young people need to stop thinking like borrowers and take advantage of their important assets: energy and time. He reveals many practical ideas: * Got a good job? Great. Start a business on the side. * Going to college or grad school? Excellent. Look for freelance work you can do from your computer. * Just married? Congrats. Put your presents in the stock market instead of buying furniture for your apartment. Early adulthood is the best time to build various income streams, setting the groundwork for a lifetime of creating wealth that will give you any lifestyle you want. This book shows young people how to think in terms of creating income--rather than just borrowing and spending.

Download or read book The Future of Money written by Eswar S. Prasad and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cutting-edge look at how accelerating financial change, from the end of cash to the rise of cryptocurrencies, will transform economies for better and worse. We think weÕve seen financial innovation. We bank from laptops and buy coffee with the wave of a phone. But these are minor miracles compared with the dizzying experiments now underway around the globe, as businesses and governments alike embrace the possibilities of new financial technologies. As Eswar Prasad explains, the world of finance is at the threshold of major disruption that will affect corporations, bankers, states, and indeed all of us. The transformation of money will fundamentally rewrite how ordinary people live. Above all, Prasad foresees the end of physical cash. The driving force wonÕt be phones or credit cards but rather central banks, spurred by the emergence of cryptocurrencies to develop their own, more stable digital currencies. Meanwhile, cryptocurrencies themselves will evolve unpredictably as global corporations like Facebook and Amazon join the game. The changes will be accompanied by snowballing innovations that are reshaping finance and have already begun to revolutionize how we invest, trade, insure, and manage risk. Prasad shows how these and other changes will redefine the very concept of money, unbundling its traditional functions as a unit of account, medium of exchange, and store of value. The promise lies in greater efficiency and flexibility, increased sensitivity to the needs of diverse consumers, and improved market access for the unbanked. The risk is instability, lack of accountability, and erosion of privacy. A lucid, visionary work, The Future of Money shows how to maximize the best and guard against the worst of what is to come.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses Guinea’s Eighth and Final Review Under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Arrangement and Financing Assurances Review, and Request for Extension of the Current Arrangement. Guinea’s medium-term economic prospects are good. Growth is projected to average 5 percent during 2017–20, on the back of higher investments in the mining sector, increases in food production, and better electricity services. The recovery in the agricultural sector will allow the growth rebound to be shared by larger segments of the population, but the sector remains vulnerable to weather-related supply shocks. The IMF staff supports the completion of the eighth review under the ECF arrangement and financing assurances review.

The ECF program helped Djibouti to maintain macroeconomic stability, and the period underwent a transformation in the Djiboutian economy. The country saw an economic increase, and the banking system boomed. A positive thought of economic growth is projected in 2012, so plans were targeted to pursue fiscal reforms to improve debt sustainability, strengthening the banking sectors. The authorities of the Executive Board expect another program similar to the ECF.

Book excerpt: Angola’s economic recovery in 2021/22 was nearly halted in 2023 by a double shock, as both oil production and prices weakened, and the debt moratorium ended. In response, the authorities took significant fiscal consolidation measures, including by cutting fuel subsidies, and tightened monetary policy. Angola continues to face significant challenges, including debt vulnerabilities and the need to diversify the economy as oil production declines over the long term. The authorities’ reform agenda, including the new 2023–27 National Development Plan, is focused on these challenges.

The labor market has remained resilient despite slower growth, as the economy pivots toward the more labor-intensive service sector. Considerable progress has been made in external rebalancing. The current account surplus fell to 2.1 percent in 2014 from the peak of about 10 percent in 2007, and the renminbi has appreciated by about 10 percent since 2014 in real effective terms. Further progress has also been made on domestic rebalancing.
