Book Evaluation of Studded Tires

Download or read book Evaluation of Studded Tires written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current state of knowledge with both studded tire performance and methods of assessing pavement wear is reported. An annotated bibliography is presented of all known research on this subject from the U.S. and European sources, a review and evaluation of the data and results of completed studies and recommendations for future research. The objectives of the study were confined to the following tests: (1) correlation of data on the frictional characteristics of studded tires on ice, packed snow, and on bare pavements, and (2) development of a method, or methods, of quantitative assessment of the difference in wearing and abrasive effects of studded versus unstudded tires on different types of surfaces. A stud-resistance coefficient for operation on ice was derived and all U.S. data are correlated with this parameter and ice temperature.

Book As A Matter Of Fact

Download or read book As A Matter Of Fact written by Skinny and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-08-27 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skinny sat writing to an insurance company who had made it their best interest to exploit his claim in deceit - "suddenly" ink flowed in aggravation, what was meant to be a rather poignant spew turned into a second hand "no holds barred" account of his life. Reasons for leaving a life of security to go trucking the Arctic iceroads, work in dangerous coal mines, or load DC-3's for the northern based Buffalo Airways tell stories of childhood abuse and spontaneous travel. Skinny relates many points of view on what he thinks of society as a whole - views that at times even he wishes to understand - finally forced to settle down, turn around and look back... this is one "wild & crazy" guy's version of truth... "with a twist!"

Book Traffic and Transport Psychology

Download or read book Traffic and Transport Psychology written by Talib Rothengatter and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-09-08 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gives an overview of the trends in Traffic and Transport Psychology. It reflects the considerable development of the most important factors for driving a road vehicle, and the variety of international research approaches. The first part contains basic approaches and integrated models as well as general theories and their implementation into Traffic and Transport Psychology. The second part deals with the driver, especially cognition, performance, social and differential effects and impairment. Important aspects are treated, such as speed perception, reaction times, interaction, risk acceptance, aggression and gender differences. Special chapters refer to performance and fatigue. The third part focuses on safety, driver support, selection and influencing drivers by enforcement, training and programs for the rehabilitation of traffic offenders. Classic ergonomic methods are discussed as well as modern telematic devices, or trends regarding driver-assessment. In the last part, current developments are presented in relation to better mobility and the protection of the environment. Questions are asked, such as whether we could reduce the use of cars, how travel behaviour can be modified or to what extent the use of alternatives to motor vehicles benefits safety as well as the environment. This work is not only important for psychologists. It should be read by all transport professionals interested in the application of psychology to traffic.
