Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Read the Money Article OF course any City Editor and many other people could easily have written this little book. It is based, with kind permission, mainly on a series of articles the writer contributed to one of the Newnes' weeklies and on certain of his contributions to other papers. The modest object of the book, even if not sufficiently indicated in its title, is explained in its Opening chapter. Its chief aim is to enable the uninitiated to cope with the technicalities of the newspaper money article, but here and there, especially in such chapters as those on The Writer of the Article, Prospectus Notices, Company Meetings, and Corruption in Financial Journalism, it also aims at showing how to read the money article between its lines. Those who know all about the matter may possibly deem. Some of the technicalities explained trivial and com monplace, but then if they know all about the matter they will recognise that these trivial and commonplace technicalities are just what puzzle people. The writer has been sorely tempted to be more exhaustive and profound, in such chapters as that on The Rates of Exchange Table, for instance; but having resisted the temptation he hopes the super. Book Money and Currency in Relation to Industry Prices and the Rate of Interest Classic Reprint

Download or read book Money and Currency in Relation to Industry Prices and the Rate of Interest Classic Reprint written by Joseph French Johnson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Money and Currency in Relation to Industry, Prices, and the Rate of Interest The theory of money and credit is developed in the first four chapters. All the remaining chapters are illustrative of the theory. In order that the illustrations may be in harmony with actual conditions, the forces governing the ebb and flow of currency and gold are described in Chapter V.' Chapters VI, VII, and VIII Show how important is the relation which money and credit, through the medium of price and the rate of interest, bear to industry and the general welfare of society. The use of gold and silver as money is considered in the next four chapters, the issues raised in the long debate over bimetallism and the free coinage of silver being reviewed in order that the principles at stake may be brought to light. Fiat money constitutes the important subject of Chapters XIII and XIV, the author's theory and conclusions being reenforced by facts from the experience of several countries. Credit money, which is not money at all, but a form of credit possessing general accept ability, is treated in Chapter XV. The need for an elastic element in the currency a need that can be satisfied only by credit money is here considered. The last two chapters deal with the monetary experience of the United States. Here, as elsewhere, principles are made more conspicuous than the facts of coinage and legislation, it being manifestly more important to know why silver dollars are valuable than to know how many of them have been coined. Book The Coming Battle

Download or read book The Coming Battle written by Martin Wetzel Walbert and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Coming Battle: A Complete History of the National Banking Money Power in the United States In this volume the author endeavors to give an accurate history of the present National Bank System of currency, including an account of the first United States Bank, - both of which were borrowed from Great Britain by those statesmen who, like the father of Sir Robert Peel, believed that a national debt was the source of prosperity. It is believed that the facts adduced in the following pages will be productive of some good, in pointing out the immense evils lurking in that system of banking, - a system which has produced panics at will, and which is the active abettor of the stock gamblers, rail road wreckers, and those industrial tyrants of modern times, the enormously overcapitalized and oppressive trusts. It is sought to point out the great dangers of delegat ing purely government powers to these greedy monopo lists, by which they are enabled to organize a money trust, far more tyrannical than all the other combina tions now in existence; and by which they absolutely defy the authority that endowed them with corporate life.
