Download or read book The Near Surface Layer of the Ocean written by Alexander Soloviev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-09 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rationale for publishing a second edition of this monograph is that this area of research continues to show remarkable advancement. The new generation of synthetic aperture radar satellites has provided unprecedented spatial resolution of sea surface features. In addition, satellites to measure sea surface salinity have been launched. Computational fluid dynamics models open new opportunities in understanding the processes in the near-surface layer of the ocean and their visibility from space. Passive acoustic methods for monitoring short surface waves have significantly progressed. Of importance for climate research, processes in the near-surface layer of the ocean contribute to errors in satellite estimates of sea surface temperature trends. Due to growing applications of near-surface science, it is anticipated that more students will be trained in this area of research. Therefore this second edition of the monograph is closer to a textbook format.

Download or read book Distribution Relative Abundance and Movement of Skipjack Tuna Katsuwonus Pelamis in the Pacific Ocean Based on Japanese Tuna Longline Catches 1964 67 written by Walter M. Matsumoto and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catch data of the Japanese tuna longline fishery from 1964 to 1967 were analyzed to determine the distribution, abundance, and movement of skipjack tuna, Katsuwonus pelamis, in offshore waters of the Pacific Ocean. Large skipjack tuna, as well as larvae, were found to be concentrated mainly in the east central equatorial Pacific. Movement of skip-jack tuna stocks was determined by following the shifting of high-CPUE (catch per unit effort) cells from one quarter to the next. The apparent movement of skipjack tuna stocks in the Pacific appeared to coincide with the circulation of the major ocean currents; counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere and clockwise in the northern hemisphere, except in the eastern Pacific where the current flow is counterclockwise. The movement patterns of high CPUE suggested that skipjack tuna adults or their progeny could move from one area to the next. The movement pattern was used also to determine the probable migratory routes followed by skipjack tuna tagged in the eastern Pacific and recovered near the Hawaiian and Christmas islands.
Download or read book The Influence of Winds and Relative Humidity on the Seasonal Thermocline at Ocean Station P written by Marion J. Clark and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTEREST WAS FOCUSED ON OBVIOUS SURFACE METEOROLOGICAL PARAMETERS, SUCH AS AIR-SEA TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE AND WIND SPEED. Attention was directed to the higher atmospheric layers and such significant conditions aloft which may possibly be associated with variations in the temperature structure in the ocean. Primary interest was in the onset and initial disturbances or sinkings of the newly-established seasonal thermocline at ocean station P (latitude 50N, longitude 145W). One of the main objectives is to detect significant meteorological changes or disturbances in the state of the atmosphere which accompany or precede distinct variations in the thermocline; and to take advantage of these atmospheric changes as possible forecasting tools to predict the temperature structure of the upper layers of the ocean or the depth of the mixed layer. Download or read book Theory and Method of Fisheries Forecasting written by Xinjun Chen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-07 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically introduces the knowledge system and research results of fisheries forecasting. It is divided into four parts and seven chapters. The first part is the introduction, which mainly introduces the basic concepts, the nature of the subject, and the research contents, as well as the current status of research. The second part is about the basic knowledge of fisheries forecasting, including overview of the world marine environment, fish shoaling and migration distribution, the relationship between fish behavior and marine environment, and the basic theory of forming fishing ground. The third part is the focus of this book, including the basic principles and methods of fisheries forecasting, as well as the application of new techniques and methods in fisheries forecasting. The fourth part is the comprehensive application of fisheries forecasting, including the general situation of world marine fisheries, the impact of global marine environment changes on fisheries resources and fishing ground, and case studying of fisheries forecasting of important economic species, such as oceanic squid, jack mackerel, anchovy, and skipjack. The study of this book will help everyone to master the basic principles and methods of fisheries forecasting, as well as the application of new technologies and methods in important economic species, and lay a foundation for future work in the field of marine fisheries.
