Book Electronic Procurement of Transportation Services

Download or read book Electronic Procurement of Transportation Services written by Philipp Sylla and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-28 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the electronic procurement of transportation services. It provides an overview of the fundamentals for the procurement of transportation services, including the relevant objectives, involved parties, and processes. A focus is set on Electronic Transportation Marketplaces (ETMs) which offer main functionalities for the procurement of transportation services on the spot and contract market as well as additional functionalities to improve further processes (e.g., time-slot management). Even though such marketplaces are important from an economic and ecological perspective, previous research provides only little knowledge about the status quo of their use, the determinants of marketplace use and the link between this use and business value. To close these research gaps, Philipp Sylla builds a comprehensive conceptual research framework and conducts an empirical analysis based on a web survey of shippers in Germany. The empirical results build the foundation for the development of an evaluation concept that provides practical support for shippers in the assessment of marketplace use and the evaluation of potential business value impacts.

However, acceptance of the automated system of procurement by SMEs has been reported low in literature. This present study investigates three of the major factors that affect SMEs acceptance of e-Government Procurement in Nigeria. Data were collected using questionnaire from 200 SMEs owners and managers who were conveniently selected. Multiple regressions were used in analysing the data. The empirical findings indicate that cultural, security as well as legal factor affect SMEs acceptance of e-GP with cultural factor being the most significant predictor of e-GP acceptance decision. The study recommends that government must embark on massive enlightenment campaign to create awareness on the benefits of adoption of e-Government Procurement to all stakeholders particularly SMEs owners, ensure that the system is structured in a way that it will guarantee security and confidentiality of information and that relevant legal backing is given to the process.

Book Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in International Economic Law

Download or read book Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in International Economic Law written by Thilo Rensmann and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-06-09 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International economic law, with its traditional focus on large multinational enterprises, is only slowly waking up to the new reality of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entering the global marketplace. In the wake of the digital revolution, smaller companies now play an important role in the global economic landscape. In 2015 the UN expressly called for SMEs to have greater access to international trade and investment, and it is increasingly recognized that the integration of SMEs provides one of the keys to creating a more sustainable and inclusive global economy. As SMEs increasingly permeate transnational supply chains, so interactions between these companies and international economic law and policy proliferate. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in International Economic Law offers the first comprehensive analysis of the interaction between SMEs and international economic law. This book presents a broad international perspective, gathering together contributions by leading experts from academia, legal practice, and international organizations. It opens up a field of enquiry into this so far unexplored dynamic and provide a touchstone for future debate. The analysis covers a broad spectrum of international trade and investment law focusing on issues of particular interest to SMEs, such as trade in services, government procurement, and trade facilitation. Diverse perspectives illuminate regional developments (in particular within the EU) and the implications of mega-regional free trade agreements. The essays also examine questions of legitimacy of global economic governance; in particular, concerns surrounding the threat posed to the interests of domestic SMEs by the growing liberalization of international trade and investment. These essays constitute essential reading for practitioners and academics seeking to navigate a previously neglected trend in international economic law.

The research design used was case study and a sample of 20 respondents was used. Data were collected using questionnaire and interview. The analysis of findings was done using descriptive statistics and narrative notes whereby tables and charts were used. Findings of the study showed that CRDB bank has started to procure online recently and for now it partially procures online. IT infrastructure in the bank strongly supports the adoption of e-procurement. Nevertheless, e-procurement has been seen as strategically important and it is driven by management. The bank personnel have the skills needed to cope with the changes. Conclusively, the study shows that the adoption of e-procurement in private sectors particularly in CRDB bank is feasible. The important thing is for the organizations and their managements to take initiatives on how to improve the facilitation of e-procurement. Book Risk Navigation Strategies for Major Capital Projects

This book was released on 2011-06-22 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investors and managers of major projects know how often they result in cost overruns and schedule delays. Risk Navigation Strategies for Major Capital Projects builds on conventional best practice to provide a risk-based view of current practices for planning and executing large international projects. As economies of scale continue to drive projects to ever-higher levels of scope and complexity, new thinking about strategy and risk is required. Since major projects are highly exposed to external risks, the traditional view of predictability as something that can be mandated and ensured by rigorous application of conventional best practice has become a myth. Fresh thinking is required to manage projects today, and this book provides a framework for taking project management best practice to the next level. Risk Navigation Strategies for Major Capital Projects is intended for executives investing in major projects, project leaders and managers, as well as those with a teaching or research interest in project and risk management.
