The outcome of the study is expected to be helpful in developing effective intervention strategies aimed at improving students’ performance and also in suggesting suitable changes that will benefit the students, parents, teachers, principal, the whole Rizal National High School and especially the country. The students’ performance (academic achievement) plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates who will become great leader and manpower for the country thus responsible for the country’s economic and social development. A case of secondary school students’ performance remains at top priority for educators. In this generation, education is considered as a first step for every human activity and it plays a vital role in the development of a learner. Students are most essential asset for any educational institute. Schools, colleges and universities have no worth without student. Education has become highly competitive and commercial in many countries. It is on the basis of high academic performance that students get selected to good secondary schools, better courses of study, and eventually better jobs. Academic achievement has become a yardstick of self-worth and success while academic performance is a complex behavior. Meanwhile, education research has identified many factors that predict students’ academic performance, especially cognitive ability and personality variables; little has focused on attendance rates.

The study was centered on the areas concern; profile of the teachers and learners; results of the Periodical Tests in the five core subjects; extent of the factors affecting the academic achievement of the learners as to learners themselves, family, learning environment and teachers. The Descriptive Method was used employing the questionnaires to assess the achievement profile of the Grade 6 learners. Treatment of the data used statistical tools of percentage, weighted mean, and test of significant relationship. It was found out that majority of the respondents were 11 years of age and females; parents’ highest educational attainment was High School Graduate; had combined family income within the range of Php 5 000 – Php 10 000; 7 and above members in the family; and were living in a duplex. The result of the Periodical Test in the five core subjects were interpreted as Low Mastery. All of the results did not meet the Planning Standards of 75% Performance Level (PL) as prescribed by the Department of Education (DepEd). Moreover, the study reveals that the identified factors – learners, family, school, and teachers affected the academic achievement of the learners in school. To improve the abovementioned performances of the learners, learning worksheets are proposed to be used.

This study was therefore conducted primarily to assess the factors contributing to improvement in academic performance of Junior High Students (JHS) in a Basic School which is in the Gomo-East District in the Central Region of Ghana. The mixed and descriptive research design was used and a sample size of 87 respondents (79 students and 8 teachers) were selected through random sampling technique. The findings revealed that the average academic performance (47.0%) of the JHS students in the Basic School is weak and their performance in Mathematics (average score of 31.48%) and English Language (average score of 39.99%) is a fail. It was noticed that student factors that contribute to an improvement in academic performance include; regular studying, self-motivation, punctuality and regular class attendance, hard-work and interest in a subject. The teacher factors were completion of syllabus, use of TLM’s, frequent feedback to students and given students special attention. Per the findings, parent factors which was very key was parent showing concern in their children’s academics and providing them their academic needs. School factors that were significant included availability of text books and TLM’s. The study also found that parent level of education and gender has a positive relationship with academic performance but it’s insignificant. However, age has a positive significant (5% significance level) relationship with academic performance. Based on findings, the study recommends that there should be strict monitoring on teachers to vary their teaching methods to suit their needs of the students and also to provide the students with constant feedback on their academic performance. Again, the students should be motivated and orientated to take ownership of their studies by having regular studies and attending school during school days.

Student Locus of Control, Self-Efficacy, and Mathematics Anxiety were the specific individual student affective factors that were examined in the study. Educational backgrounds of the students were examined as an attempt to explain the differences in mathematics performance at the higher education level. To achieve this, high school teacher characteristics and instructional practices in influencing students’ affective factors were examined. All of the analyses presented were performed on data collected for the study from two institutions of higher education in Cameroon for the student participants and from high school mathematics teachers of the English-Speaking and the French-Speaking subsystems of education. The results of the study show that student internal locus of control, high mathematics self-efficacy, and Mathematics Anxiety were associated with performance in mathematics at the higher education level. The results also revealed a high significant difference in the performance of the students in mathematics from the two educational backgrounds, the English-Speaking and French-Speaking. The results of the study revealed that the English-Speaking subsystem of education is suffering from an acute shortage of qualified high school mathematics teachers. The results show that only 10.5% of the high school mathematics teachers who participated in the study had postgraduate qualifications as against 56.9% for mathematics teachers of the French-Speaking subsystem. The study recommends the need to replace the present GCE Advanced Level Further Mathematics syllabus with one that reflects the view that Further Mathematics is a subject studied mainly by potential mathematics graduates. The syllabus should have, as one of its objectives, the provision of a link between High School Mathematics and University Mathematics. While improving on the syllabus and the examination system, due consideration should also be given to the problem of acute shortage of qualified high school mathematics teachers for the English-Speaking subsystem of education in Cameroon.

Enverga University Foundation-Candelaria, Inc. The researchers identified two general factors namely the student-factor and teacher-factor. Student-factors include two sub-factors such as their attitude towards the subject and their learning strategies and styles. Meanwhile, teaching strategies and styles, art of questioning, and instructional materials are included in the teacher-factors. There are one hundred eighty seven (187) respondents statistically drawn via systematic stratified random sampling. To answer the following problems, the researchers used an adapted test questionnaire known as THE CEU-LOPEZ CRITICAL THINKING TEST by Dr. Marcos Y. Lopez and the researcher-made four-point Likert scale questionnaire. The results revealed that the students are at the Beginning Thinker Level. It also showed that the five factors positively intervene with the level of critical thinking of students.

According to Fagbamiye, the board education or ministry of education world wide suspected teaching methodology and classroom teachers as being the cause at the problem yet it seems to persist. This shows that outside the school environment, students are faced with other factors that influence their academic performances. There is also clear distinction between the gifted children and others, but even at that there are factors that influence the academic of both gifted and non-gifted children which can not be traced to the school environment.

The main purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between study habits and academic performance of senior secondary school students in Mathematics. To carry out this study, four research questions and one null hypothesis were raised to guide the study. The population of 1128 Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) students with a sample size of 200 respondents was selected from 5 public secondary schools for the study using simple random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data for the study, which consists of two sections (A and B), section A consist of 20 items while section B, consist of 30 achievement tests on mathematics. The reliability coefficient of 0.72 was obtained using Split Half Method. Data collected was analyzed using simple frequency counts, percentages and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient (PPMC) and the hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance using One-Way Analysis of Variance(ANOVA). However, the results revealed that there is significant relationship between study habits and academic performance of senior secondary school students in mathematics. Based on the result of the findings, it was recommended that group guidance should be organized in schools by professional counsellors in order to create awareness on how students can develop effective study habits which could lead to good academic performance in mathematics and a functional school library should be mounted in all the secondary schools.

A set of questionnaires were distributed online and data from a sample of 75 students were collected through Google Forms. Two demographic factors, namely gender and years of learning English, were used as the variables. The finding of the study suggests that the factors affecting the level of English proficiency among IIUM undergraduate students were not affected by gender but were affected by the duration of learning English. The factors that were contributing to the level of English proficiency among IIUM undergraduate students were language anxiety, students’ attitude and also peers, parental and teacher influences. Besides, the study also revealed that there is no significant relationship between cultural stereotypes and students’ performance in second language acquisition. The level of English proficiency among Malaysian students are often questioned. Despite learning English for almost 10 years in school, the majority of Malaysian students still encounter difficulties in using the language effectively especially in tertiary education. Many local graduates are still unemployed due to their lack of fluency in English.

The retrieved questionnaire forms were screened. The data collected was analysed by frequency counts and simple percentage for bio-data and chi-square analysis were used for the variables (research question under the study). The study reveals that Students who have access to require balance diet perform better than those who did not have, Nourished students perform better than mal-nourished students, Socio economic status has significant influence on nutritional intake, Students who free from nutritional disorder perform better than students with nutritional disorder and Food availability has significant influence on academic performance.

Over the years, the practice of continuous assessment has been the pre-evaluation process of the academic success of students before their final examination period. Nowadays, however, it appears that teachers are not using continuous assessment to prepare students for examinations. In view of this, the study investigates the impact of continuous assessment regarding the academic performance of students. The descriptive survey design was employed for the study and a random sampling technique was used to select 120 teachers in ten different secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis. The instrument used was a self-designed questionnaire entitled "Impact of CA Academic Performance Questionnaire (ICAAPQ)". The study reveals that continuous assessment helps students to remember what has been learnt, to concentrate on difficult areas of a subject, and help to identify their areas of strengths and weaknesses. The author recommends that teachers should work with school counsellors to critically examine students performances in continuous assessment in order to understand their areas of weaknesses.

Enverga University Foundation Candelaria, Inc. within the school year 2014-2015. This study has three important purposes: (1) to identify the behaviors of students in Pilot and Lower-hetero classes, (2) to determine the management strategies of teachers regarding their students’ classroom behavior and (3) to view the differences between the management of high school teachers regarding the behaviors of students in Pilot and Lower-hetero class. Moreover, the researcher aims to improve the managerial skills of teachers with the aid of the findings and able to use to develop an intervention program. The respondents of the study are twenty four (24) faculty members of Secondary Education level in Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Candelaria, Inc. and were chosen through the use of purposive sampling method. Criteria were set so that the researcher would come up with the appropriate number of respondents. Respondents were given two sets of questionnaires with the same contents: one for Pilot class and other is for Lower-hetero class. First part was designed to identify the behavior of students and the second was designed for the management of teachers in pilot and lowerhetero classes based on time, instruction, classroom environment, relation and discipline. The researcher sought the permission of the administrator/school principal during the data gathering procedure. The questionnaire was administered, collected, tallied, tabulated and interpreted. The study revealed that the students from pilot class are identified to be class achievers and the lower-hetero class is classroom helpers. Teachers, on the other hand, identified that both students from pilot and lower-hetero classes are exhibiting aggressive behaviors. Teachers also revealed that they ALWAYS manage their time, instruction, classroom environment, relation and discipline. In terms of differences, they revealed that there is SIGNIFANT DIFFERENCES in time and discipline with the t-computed values of 1.82 and 2.7 respectively. However, they found out that there is NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES in terms of instruction and relation with the t-computed values of 0.12 and 0.59 respectively and has NO DIFFERENCE in classroom environment with the t computed value of 0.
