Book Factorization and Heavy Quark Symmetry in Hadronic B meson Decays

Download or read book Factorization and Heavy Quark Symmetry in Hadronic B meson Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We discuss within the context of heavy-quark symmetry a program for performing model 226 independent tests of the factorization scenario proposed by Dugan and Grinstein for hadronic B-meson decays. Preliminary, model 226 dependent results for decays to a D or D* and one, two, or three pions are presented which indicate that the predictions of factorization are consistent with the present experimental situation. Our results suggest that such decays may not only provide a precision testing ground for factorization, but also an opportunity to study the properties of excited D mesons and to measure many of the universal form factors of heavy-quark symmetry (including ones not otherwise readily accessible).

Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book Charmless Hadronic B Decays at Belle and BaBar

Download or read book Charmless Hadronic B Decays at Belle and BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I report on recent measurements from the Belle and BABAR collaborations on the decay of the B meson to hadronic final states without a charm quark. The study of the branching fractions and angular distributions of B meson decays to hadronic final states without a charm quark probes the dynamics of both the weak and strong interactions, and plays an important role in understanding CP Violation (CPV) in the quark sector. CP Violation at the B factories is described graphically by a triangle with sides formed from the CKM matrix elements V{sub qd}V*{sub qb} (q = u, c, t) and internal angles [alpha], [beta] [gamma] (or [phi]2, [phi]1, [phi]3). Discrepancies in the measured values of the sides and angles could be an indication of New Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) due to enhanced branching fractions or modified CP asymmetries. The experimental measurements of branching fractions, CP asymmetries, polarization and phases (both weak and strong) can be compared to theoretical models based on, for example, QCD factorization, SU(3) symmetry and Lattice QCD.

Book The Quark Confinement Model of Hadrons

Download or read book The Quark Confinement Model of Hadrons written by G.V Efimov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Filling the gap in the literature on low-energy quark models, The Quark Confinement Model of Hadrons investigates confinement effects in the low-energy regions of particle physics using the methods of nonlocal quantum field theory. It also elucidates their role in describing microscopic quantities that characterize hadron-hadron interactions. The authors present a quark confinement model to describe the low-energy physics of light hadrons. Hadrons are treated as collective colorless excitations of quark-gluon interactions while the quark confinement is to be provided by averaging over gluon backgrounds. The model is shown to reproduce the low-energy relations of chiral theory in the case of null momenta and, in addition, allow the researcher to obtain more sophisticated hadron characteristics, such as slope parameters and form factors. Presenting a unified view on a number of low-energy phenomena, The Quark Confinement Model of Hadrons enables an understanding of problems related to the treatment of large distances within quantum chromodynamics.

Book Heavy Quark Symmetry in the Soft Collinear Effective Theory

Download or read book Heavy Quark Symmetry in the Soft Collinear Effective Theory written by Gautam Mantry and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study strong interaction effects in nonleptonic decays of ... mesons with energetic particles in the final state. An introduction to Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET), the appropriate effective field theory of QCD for such decays, is given. We focus on decays of the type ... where M is a light energetic meson of energy E. The SCET formulates the problem as an expansion in powers of where Q [approx.] ... A factorization theorem is proven at leading order that separates the physics of the scales ... In addition, the factorization theorem decouples energetic degrees of freedom associated with the light meson allowing us to derive heavy quark symmetry relations between the ... type amplitudes. A new mechanism for the generation of non-perturbative strong phases is shown within the framework of factorization. Heavy quark symmetry relations are shown to apply for these strong phases as well. Furthermore, the strong phases for certain light mesons in the final state are shown to be universal. The analysis is extended to ... type decays with isosinglet light mesons and excited charmed mesons in the final state respectively. A host of other phenomenological relations are derived and found to be in good agreement with available data.
