Book Dynamic Factor Demand in a Rationing Context

Download or read book Dynamic Factor Demand in a Rationing Context written by Werner Smolny and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A macroeconomic disequilibrium model is developed for the Federal Republic of Germany. Starting with a microeconomic model of firm's behaviour, the optimal dynamic adjustment of employment and investment is derived. The model of the firm is complemented by an explicite aggregation procedure which allows to derive macroeconomic relations. The model is estimated with macroeconomic data for the Federal Republic of Germany. An important feature is the consistent introduction of dynamic adjustment into a model of the firm. A new method is the particular approach of a delayed adjustment of employment and investment. The estimation results show significant underutilizations of labour and capital and indicate the importance of supply constraints for imports and exports. As the most prominent result, they reveal the importance of the slow adjustment of employment and investment for the macroeconomic situation in Germany and especially for the persistence of high unemployment in the eighties.

Book Theory of Microeconomics

Download or read book Theory of Microeconomics written by Trout Rader and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Microeconomics provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of microeconomics. This book covers a variety of topics, including economic theory, resource allocation, production transformations, producer efficiency, utility functions, consumer efficiency, and trade efficiency. Organized into four parts encompassing 11 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the definition of economics and provides several views of the significance of theory in economics. This text then examines the role of mathematics in economic theory and discusses the mathematical background for the theory of production. Other chapters consider the formal structure of economics, which is elaborated and compared with the theory of resource allocations and with classical mechanics. This book discusses as well the properties of production, the neoclassical model of production, and the problem of producer efficiency. The final chapter deals with capital goods and financial assets. This book is a valuable resource for professional economists and graduate students in economics.

Book A Test of the Economic Base Hypothesis in the Small Forest Communities of Southeast Alaska

Download or read book A Test of the Economic Base Hypothesis in the Small Forest Communities of Southeast Alaska written by Guy C. Robertson and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent harvest declines in the Western United States have focused attention on the question of economic impacts at the community level. The impact of changing timber-related economic activity in a given community on other local activity and the general economic health of the community at large has been a persistent and often contentious issue in debates surrounding forest policy decisions. The economic base hypothesis, in which changes in local export-related economic activity are assumed to cause changes in economic activity serving local demand, is a common framework for understanding impacts of forest policy decisions and forms the basis of models commonly used to provide estimates of expected local impacts under different policy options. This study uses community-specific, time-series employment data to test the economic base hypothesis in the small, semi-isolated communities of southeast Alaska. Estimates were derived for each of 15 communities. Export-related activity was not found to cause changes in economic activity serving local demand for the average community. However, the results indicated statistically significant differences among communities in their response to shocks in export related activity. The implications of these results for policy, and for the theory and practice of modeling economic impacts at small spatial scales, are explored in the final sections of this study. Specifically, secondary economic impacts cannot be taken as a foregone conclusion in policy analysis, and the fundamental assumptions of static impact modeling approaches deserve greater scrutiny.

Book Advanced Microeconomic Theory

Download or read book Advanced Microeconomic Theory written by Felix Munoz-Garcia and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to advanced topics in microeconomics that emphasizes the intuition behind assumptions and results, providing examples that show how to apply theory to practice. This textbook offers an introduction to advanced microeconomic theory that emphasizes the intuition behind mathematical assumptions, providing step-by-step examples that show how to apply theoretical models. It covers standard topics such as preference relations, demand theory and applications, producer theory, choice under uncertainty, partial and general equilibrium, monopoly, game theory and imperfect competition, externalities and public goods, and contract theory; but its intuitive and application-oriented approach provides students with a bridge to more technical topics. The book can be used by advanced undergraduates as well as Masters students in economics, finance, and public policy, and by PhD students in programs with an applied focus. The text connects each topic with recent findings in behavioral and experimental economics, and discusses these results in context, within the appropriate chapter. Step-by-step examples appear immediately after the main theoretical findings, and end-of chapter exercises help students understand how to approach similar exercises on their own. An appendix reviews basic mathematical concepts. A separate workbook, Practice Exercises for Advanced Microeconomic Theory, offers solutions to selected problems with detailed explanations. The textbook and workbook together help students improve both their theoretical and practical preparation in advanced microeconomics.
