Book Women and Leadership Development in College

Download or read book Women and Leadership Development in College written by Jennifer M. Pigza and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As leadership educators shift from teacher- to learner-centered environments, from hierarchical to shared responsibility for learning, and from absolute to constructed ways of knowing, a desire for new inclusive and creative pedagogies is also emerging. This text includes over 40 easy-to-follow modules related to women and leadership development crafted by experienced leadership educators and practitioners. Each module includes learning objectives, detailed instructions, and ideas for adapting the module to diverse learning spaces and audiences. Here are but a few of the critical questions that are addressed in the modules:• How do we make explicit the complexities of power in leadership and in the stories we tell ourselves about feminism and gender in leadership?• How can we interrogate and deconstruct dominant narratives and invite intersectionality? Whose voices are missing or silenced in content and process?• What practices build leadership efficacy and habits of critical self-reflection?• What are the effects of stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination in leadership?• How are learning and leadership both individual and collective processes?• How do we develop critical consciousness and maintain hope in the face of the long arc of structural change? This text is a detailed resource for anyone interested in women and leadership education, whether through a full-length course, a weekend workshop, or a one-time topical session. It also serves as a companion to the book We are the Leaders We’ve Been Waiting For: Women and Leadership Development in College (Owen, 2020).

Book Facilitated Advocacy for Sustainable Development

Download or read book Facilitated Advocacy for Sustainable Development written by Graham Haylor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facilitated advocacy is an approach to development initiatives that enables people situated across diverse cultural, economic, educational, professional, societal and linguistic spheres to engage more equitably. By doing so, potential changes in policy and practice can improve people’s livelihoods and life circumstances. This book provides context and definition for facilitated advocacy. It suggests a role for the approach, as the world once again embarks on a set of UN-coordinated development goals. The book outlines the skills and experience required to facilitate groups of people in order to identify and advocate for changes that they consider necessary. This is illustrated through a series of co-authored case studies from Cambodia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. These range from standing up for the rights of tribal communities in eastern India and improving service delivery to villages in Vietnam, to developing an inclusive fisheries policy in Pakistan and building social enterprises in Odisha State of India. This book offers a critically reflective description of what has been tried, adapted and replicated, furthering action research in the field of development studies. It offers theorists and practitioners an opportunity to examine their own work in contrast and in recognition of the realities of living with paradoxes.

As a result, there are contributions to this volume from anthropologists (Leacock, Ogbu), psychologists (Lippincott, Mueller, Ramey and Snow), sociologists (Borman, Denzin) and scholars who have self-consciously adopted an interdisciplinary framework. First published in 1984. Routledge is an imprint of Taylor & Francis, an informa company.
