Download or read book Davide Rondoni written by Gregory M. Pell and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-12-20 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, Gregory M. Pell provides a full-length study on the poetry of Davide Rondoni, one of Italy’s most active contemporary writers and thinkers. This book includes comparative studies of Jorie Graham, Gjertrud Schnackenberg, Charles Wright, John Ashbery, Patrizia Fazzi, and Mario Luzi. As the first book in English on Davide Rondoni’s poetry, this study explores how the Italian poet deals with art, and the places of art, in a way that transcends the notion of ekphrasis (or, verbal representation of pictorial art) to see poetry as the transcription of an experience with art, thus becoming a sort of anti-ekphrasis, or an atmospheric ekphrasis. The social and religious aspects of art take precedence over aesthetic concerns, without discounting them, in Rondoni’s unsentimental poetry, which takes the form of recitative theatrical monologues. Thus, art becomes more than simple visual representation or the subject of an art history catalogue. Instead, in certain poets, such as Rondoni, we experience life through art’s complete process: from the artist’s originary idea to the work’s execution to our interaction with it in the here and now.

Book Spaghetti Westerns

Download or read book Spaghetti Westerns written by Aliza S. Wong and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the silent days of cinema, Westerns have been one of the most popular genres, not just in the United States but around the world. International filmmakers have been so taken by westerns that many directors have produced versions of their own, despite lacking access to the American West. Nowhere has the Western been more embraced outside of the United States than Italy. In the 1960s, as Hollywood heroes like John Wayne and Randolph Scott were aging, Italian filmmakers were revitalizing the western, securing younger American actors for their productions and also making stars of homegrown talent. Movies directed and produced by Italians have been branded “spaghetti westerns”—a genre that boastsseveral hundred films. In Spaghetti Westerns: A Viewer’s Guide, Aliza S. Wong identifies the most significant westerns all’italiana produced as well as the individuals who significantly contributed to the genre. The author profiles such American actors as Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van Cleef; composers including Ennio Morricone and Carlo Rustichelli; and, of course, directors like Sergio Corbucci and Sergio Leone. The most memorable movies of the genre are also examined, includingCompañeros, Django; A Fistful of Dollars; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; and They Call Me Trinity. In addition to citing pivotal films and filmmakers, this volume also highlights other relevant aspects of the genre, including popular shooting locations, subgenres like the Zapata western, and the films and filmmakers who were inspired by the spaghetti western, including Quentin Tarantino, Richard Rodriguez, and Takashi Miike. An introduction to a unique homage of American cinema, Spaghetti Westerns: A Viewer’s Guide allows fans and scholars alike to learn more about a genre that continues to fascinate audiences.

Book L era della Web Communication

Download or read book L era della Web Communication written by Riccardo Di Bari and published by Tangram Ediz. Scientifiche. This book was released on 2012-10-17 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Semiotics in Language Education

Download or read book Semiotics in Language Education written by Marcel Danesi and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2000 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 25-year teacher of Italian as a second language, Danesi (education, U. of Toronto) proposes that the challenges posed by classroom language learning could be studied much more profitably from the particular perspective of semiotic theory than from that of other sciences. Based on a series of research projects, the results of which he describes as showing how powerful semiotics is as a framework for that purpose, he introduces teachers, educators, applied linguists, and others to its application. He assumes readers to have a solid grounding in semiotics itself, and suggest works to read first for people who do not. He includes an extensive glossary of technical terms, but does not indicate how to pronounce them. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR
