Book Fabrication and Analysis of CIGS Nanoparticle based Thin Film Solar Cells

Download or read book Fabrication and Analysis of CIGS Nanoparticle based Thin Film Solar Cells written by Parvin Ghane and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fabrication and analysis of Copper Indium Gallium di-Selenide (CIGS) nanoparticles-based thin film solar cells are presented and discussed. This work explores non-traditional fabrication processes, such as spray-coating for the low-cost and highly-scalable production of CIGS-based solar cells. CIGS nanoparticles were synthesized and analyzed, thin CIGS films were spray-deposited using nanoparticle inks, and resulting films were used in low-cost fabrication of a set of CIGS solar cell devices. This synthesis method utilizes a chemical colloidal process resulting in the formation of nanoparticles with tunable band gap and size. Based on theoretical and experimental studies, 100 nm nanoparticles with an associated band gap of 1.33 eV were selected to achieve the desired film characteristics and device performances. Book Growth and Characterization of ZnO for the Front Contact of Cu In Ga Se2 Solar Cells Using Reactive Sputtering Techniques

Download or read book Growth and Characterization of ZnO for the Front Contact of Cu In Ga Se2 Solar Cells Using Reactive Sputtering Techniques written by Rita Bhatt and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: ZnO window layers for CIGS solar cells are grown with a DC sputtering technique instead of a conventional RF sputtering technique. Transparent window layers and buffer layers are sputtered from the Zn target in the presence of Oxygen. The window layer is doped with Aluminum in order to achieve high electrical conductivity and thermal stability. The effect of different sputtering parameters on the electrical and optical properties of the films is elaborately studied. Sets of annealing experiments are also performed. Combinations of different deposition parameters are examined to design the optimum fabrication conditions. We are able to deposit 85% transparent, Al doped ZnO films having 002-axis orientation and 4e-4 ohm-cm resistivity, which is successfully, used on CIGS solar cells. Resistivity of undoped ZnO buffer layers is varied form 10-2 ohm-cm to unmeasurable by varying the sputtering parameters. The performance of a reactively sputtered window layer and a buffer layer have matched the performance of the RF sputtered ZnO on CIGS solar cells. There has been considerable effort to eliminate Chemical Bath Deposition of the CdS buffer layer from CIS solar cell fabrication. The performance of an undoped DC sputtered ZnO layer is examined on Cd free CIGS solar cells. The ZnO buffer layer is directly sputtered on an underlying CIGS material. The performance of Cd free solar cells is highly susceptible to the presence of Oxygen in the sputtering ambient of the buffer layer deposition [6]. As Oxygen is a growth component in reactive sputtering, the growth mechanisms of the DC-sputtered buffer layer are studied to improve the understanding. The performance of all reactively sputtered ZnO devices matched the values reported in the literature and the results for DC sputtered ZnO on Cd-free solar cells were encouraging.

Book Fabrication of ZnO Thin Film Through Chemical Preparations

Download or read book Fabrication of ZnO Thin Film Through Chemical Preparations written by Ersan Y. Muslih and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a compound that has unique physical and chemical properties. It has a direct band gap at 3.4 eV (without dopant), a high bonding energy (60 meV), and a high thermal and mechanical stability at room temperature. Thus, ZnO thin film can be suitably applied in many fields, and it also has many functions such as UV light emitters, hydrophobic coating, transparent thin film in electronic devices, piezoelectric material, transducers, gas-sensing, and a transparent conductive oxide (TCO) layer in thin film solar cells. ZnO thin film could be prepared by many chemical preparations such as chemical bat deposition (CBD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), sol-gel spin coating, doctor blade, printing deposition, and electrochemical deposition (ED). This chemical process is a low-cost, simple, and easy preparation process to be adjusted or doped by other elements.

Book Fabrication and Characterizations of Cu2O ZnO P n Heterojunction and TiO2 based Dye sensitized Solar Cells

Download or read book Fabrication and Characterizations of Cu2O ZnO P n Heterojunction and TiO2 based Dye sensitized Solar Cells written by Mingwei Shang and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar cells have attracted a lot of interest in recent years with the increasing need for alternative forms of energy. Two types of solar cells are analyzed in this work. First, single-crystal n-type zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod arrays and p-type cuprous oxide (Cu2O) film were used to fabricate Cu2O/ZnO heterostructures through electrochemical deposition. Electrical measurements and external quantum efficiency were used to characterize the properties of the obtained p-n junction. Second, the effects of different electrolytes and counter electrodes on the cell performance were analyzed in order to improve the photoelectric properties of TiO2-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Iodine-based electrolyte, sulfur-based electrolyte and inorganic solid-state electrolyte CsSnI2.95F0.05 were selected to couple with dye-sensitized TiO2 nanorod arrays. The cell composed of CsSnI2.95F0.05 shows the highest conversion efficiency, around 8.9%. To analyze the effects of counter electrodes on the photovoltaic performance of DSSCs, fluorine doped tin oxide transparent conducting glass (FTO), platinum coated FTO (Pt/FTO), graphite coated FTO (Graphite/FTO), and graphite coated common glass (Graphite/glass) were used as the counter electrodes of the TiO2-based DSSCs with CsSnI2.95F0.05. The cells had power-conversion efficiencies of 2.17%, 9.84%, 7.62%, and 3.45%, respectively. Our findings indicate that due to its unique catalytic and conducting properties, graphite can replace both Pt and FTO as a counter electrode to reduce the fabrication cost of all-solid-state TiO2-based DSSCs.

Book Synthesis of Zinc Oxide by Sol Gel Method for Photoelectrochemical Cells

Download or read book Synthesis of Zinc Oxide by Sol Gel Method for Photoelectrochemical Cells written by Siti Salwa Alias and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-20 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the study of synthesized ZnO powder using Zn(CH3COO)2∙2H2O precursor, methanol (as solvent), and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to vary the pH. The successfully synthesized ZnO powder from the sol-gel centrifugation and sol-gel storage methods were characterized and investigated by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–visible spectroscopy, and photoluminescence test to compare the properties of the nanoparticles. The best characteristic of the ZnO powder from both methods was observed when the powders were coated on an ITO glass to fabricate a PEC. The current density–voltage performances of both PECs were investigated under luminescent and dark conditions.
