Book Fables and Plants

Download or read book Fables and Plants written by Peter K. Chen and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most American readers have only heard of Aesop's Fables, as he is the most prominent fable writer. But there were three major regions of the world that produced prolific fables: China, Greece and India. This book is an English translation of a Chinese collection of fables from editor Gao Jing Xuan. While most fables use animals as their main characters, this book is unique in that it uses plants to teach moral lessons. The fables included are from both modern and classical Chinese authors. In Fables and Plants, we emphasize plants because they are often not given the same attention in fables as animals. But plants were created by God before He created animals and human beings. Plants are also colorful, beautiful and fragrant and can provide great comfort and pleasure to humans. The Three Friends of Winter (bamboo, pine and plum) and Four Gentleman's Flowers (Orchid in Spring, Lotus in summer, Chrysanthemum in the Fall and Plum in the winter) were highly praised and loved by Chinese poets and artists. All of these plants were included in these stories.

Touching and relatable.” (Lori Roberts, author of A Life of Gratitude) From Katie Vaz, author of Don’t Worry, Eat Cake, the beloved Make Yourself Cozy, and The Escape Manual for Introverts, comes My Life in Plants. Her newest book tells the story of her life through the thirty-nine plants that have played both leading and supporting roles, from her childhood to her wedding day. Visit us online at www.1stWorldLibrary.ORG - THE summer moon shone brightly down upon the sleeping earth, while far away from mortal eyes danced the Fairy folk. Fire-flies hung in bright clusters on the dewy leaves, that waved in the cool night-wind; and the flowers stood gazing, in very wonder, at the little Elves, who lay among the fern-leaves, swung in the vine-boughs, sailed on the lake in lily cups, or danced on the mossy ground, to the music of the hare-bells, who rung out their merriest peal in honor of the night. Under the shade of a wild rose sat the Queen and her little Maids of Honor, beside the silvery mushroom where the feast was spread. "Now, my friends," said she, "to while away the time till the bright moon goes down, let us each tell a tale, or relate what we have done or learned this day. I will begin with you, Sunny Lock," added she, turning to a lovely little Elf, who lay among the fragrant leaves of a primrose.

Book Plant the Tiny Seed

Download or read book Plant the Tiny Seed written by Christie Matheson and published by Greenwillow Books. This book was released on 2017-01-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you make a garden grow? In this playful companion to the popular Tap the Magic Tree and Touch the Brightest Star, you will see how tiny seeds bloom into beautiful flowers. And by tapping, clapping, waving, and more, young readers can join in the action! Christie Matheson masterfully combines the wonder of the natural world with the interactivity of reading. Beautiful collage-and-watercolor art follows the seed through its entire life cycle, as it grows into a zinnia in a garden full of buzzing bees, curious hummingbirds, and colorful butterflies. Children engage with the book as they wiggle their fingers to water the seeds, clap to make the sun shine after rain, and shoo away a hungry snail. Appropriate for even the youngest child, Plant the Tiny Seed is never the same book twice—no matter how many times you read it! And for curious young nature lovers, a page of facts about seeds, flowers, and the insects and animals featured in the book is included at the end. Fans of Press Here, Eric Carle, and Lois Ehlert will find their next favorite book in Plant the Tiny Seed.

For some gardeners, they are curiosities that yield a special thrill when closely examined. For others, they are invaluable for creating sophisticated designs in which dark leaves and foliage provide essential contrast with brighter elements. Whatever the source of their somber magic, these dusky denizens of the plant kingdom are irresistible to gardeners-or indeed to anyone drawn to nature's more unusual manifestations.
