Download or read book Transportation Energy Conservation Data Book written by G. Kulp and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The data book represents an assembly and display of statistics that characterize transportation activity and presents data on other factors that influence transportation energy use. The purpose of this publication is to present a large amount of relevant data in an easily retrievable and usable format with the statistical data shown in the form of tables and graphs. Each of the major transportation modes (highway, air, rail, and pipeline) is treated in separate chapters or sections, although aggregate energy use and energy supply data for all modes are presented in Chap. 1. The highway mode, accounting for over 77% of total transportation energy consumption, is dealt with in Chap. 2. Topics in this chapter include vehicle stock characteristics, fuel efficiency, household vehicle ownership and use, fleet automobiles, buses, and trucks. Chap. 3 presents data on each of the nonhighway modes: air, water, pipeline, and rail, respectively. The final chapter, Chap. 4, summarizes historical trends in transportation activity.

Download or read book Handbook of Aeronautical Inspection and Pre Purchase written by Denny Pollard and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2005-12-20 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are a prospective owner, pilot, broker, or aviation mechanic or anyone who needs to know where to find information about the aviation airworthiness, maintenance, inspections and rules---you'll find all he information you need in this one volume. The following expert tips in this book will walk you thought step by step without worrying if you are buying a hangar queen. Every aspect about inspections, mechanic privileges, mechanic and owner responsibilities and what you should look for and inspect when choosing an aircraft. Know where to find the tools to aid in research of the aircraft history, specifications, details on modifications and changes made through the years, Type-Certificate Date Sheets, FAA Airworthiness Directives, Supplementary Type Certificates, Maintenance Alerts for each make and model aircraft, and aircraft records. This book documents the history, experiences and hardships of purchasing aircraft. It describes the difficult and hazardous situations demanding ingenuity, resourcefulness and a lot of difficult hard work. Denny's years of experience in the aviation field demonstrates a lesser-known side of aviation that is from the mechanic's' perspective. This book is the first of its' kind and once started, compels the reader to continue to the last page. Before you buy your next aircraft, have an independent inspection completed by an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic. Whether you are an American or overseas buyer you will be able to buy with confidence with a pre-purchase inspection. With your pre-purchase inspection you should receive an extensive condition report verifying the condition and originality on the aircraft you wish to purchase. The pre-purchase should be able to tell you if the aircraft is currently airworthy, and if the aircraft has been in an accident or been modified. Along with the detailed report you should receive several photographs, including pictures of the fuselage, engine compartment, and interior and close ups of areas of concern. After the inspection, the mechanic or agent for service should discuss this information with you. Are you aware the pre-purchase agreement you sign may be the single most important document, among the dozen or so documents sometimes required? And which specific items should you include in your purchase agreement. Has your aircraft (Or the One That You Are Thinking About Purchasing) been subjected to less than scrupulous inspection and maintenance practices, over the years? Sometimes even a very competent pre-purchase inspection does not include a complete inspection of the aircraft records because it is often very time consuming to read them thoroughly. Positively, the most enlightening pre-buy inspection is a good evaluation of the aircraft maintenance records. A complete evaluation will identify the current status of the aircraft as required by 14 CFR 91.417, uncover time frames of no maintenance, or lack of maintenance, identify inaccurate engine cycle tracking as well as aircraft time tracking and reveal aircraft damage history. Prospective purchaser is responsible for discovering discrepancies that can only be revealed by in-flight evaluation such as flight characteristics, proper functioning of navigational instrumentation, avionics and autopilot. The purpose of the Pre-purchase Inspection is to protect the interest of the buyer; it is not intended to be an Annual/Airworthiness Inspection.

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Public Aviation Law written by Paul Stephen Dempsey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Public Aviation Law is the first book to incorporate a comprehensive analysis of Public Aviation Law – principally international, but also domestic law in a comparative context – in a single volume. International Law is pervasive in Aviation Law, and is incorporated into a number of major multilateral treaties (e.g., the Chicago Convention of 1944, for Public International Air Law). This is supplemented by various Annexes (promulgated by the International Civil Aviation Organization) and Conventions and Protocols (promulgated by States in diplomatic conferences). States then implement these international obligations in domestic laws that create aviation regulatory administrations that, in turn, promulgate regulations. Bringing together leading scholars in the field, this prestigious reference work provides a comprehensive and comparative overview of Public Aviation Law. It surveys the state of the discipline including contemporary and emerging areas of law, regulation, and public policy in air transportation. Each chapter begins with an overview of the international law applicable to the subject matter, followed, where appropriate, by a comparative examination of domestic statutes, regulations, and jurisprudence. The objective of the book is to identify and summarize existing areas within the context of international research, and to identify and highlight emerging areas. Both practical and theoretical in scope, the Routledge Handbook of Public Aviation Law will be of great relevance to scholars, researchers, lawyers, and policy makers with an interest in aviation law.

Download or read book Collision Course written by Joseph A. McCartin and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August 1981, the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) called an illegal strike. The new president, Ronald Reagan, fired the strikers, establishing a reputation for both decisiveness and hostility to organized labor. As Joseph A. McCartin writes, the strike was the culmination of two decades of escalating conflict between controllers and the government that stemmed from the high-pressure nature of the job and the controllers' inability to negotiate with their employer over vital issues. PATCO's fall not only ushered in a long period of labor decline; it also served as a harbinger of the campaign against public sector unions that now roils American politics. Now available in paperback, Collision Course sets the strike within a vivid panorama of the rise of the world's busiest air-traffic control system. It begins with an arresting account of the 1960 midair collision over New York that cost 134 lives and exposed the weaknesses of an overburdened system. Through the stories of controllers like Mike Rock and Jack Maher, who were galvanized into action by that disaster and went on to found PATCO, it describes the efforts of those who sought to make the airways safer and fought to win a secure place in the American middle class. It climaxes with the story of Reagan and the controllers, who surprisingly endorsed the Republican on the promise that he would address their grievances. That brief, fateful alliance triggered devastating miscalculations that changed America, forging patterns that still govern the nation's labor politics. Written with an eye for detail and a grasp of the vast consequences of the PATCO conflict for both air travel and America's working class, Collision Course is a stunning achievement.
