Download or read book Guidelines for Soil Description written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soils are affected by human activities, such as industrial, municipal and agriculture, that often result in soil degradation and loss. In order to prevent soil degradation and to rehabilitate the potentials of degraded soils, reliable soil data are the most important prerequisites for the design of appropriate land-use systems and soil management practices as well as for a better understanding of the environment. The availability of reliable information on soil morphology and other characteristics obtained through examination and description of the soil in the field is essential, and the use of a common language is of prime importance. These guidelines, based on the latest internationally accepted systems and classifications, provide a complete procedure for soil description and for collecting field data. To help beginners, some explanatory notes are included as well as keys based on simple test and observations.--Publisher's description.

Download or read book Soil and Plant Analysis written by J. Benton Jones, Jr. and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-03-30 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the renewed current emphasis on agricultural production efficiency and environmental quality, the technology of soil and plant analysis has taken on even greater importance. Several states now require soil testing as part of their nutrient management programs. Soil testing and plant analysis are important components of the Food Security Act and under consideration as safeguards for the new Clean Water Act. The Council on Soil Testing and Plant Analysis, established in 1969, promotes soil testing and plant analysis, including efficient use of nutrient resources, maximizing profits, and encouraging proper soil management and environmental protection. Compiled by the Council in response to the growing need for information about soil testing and plant analysis laboratories, Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory Registry for the United States and Canada, Second Edition provides up-to-date information about public and private laboratory services, including:
Download or read book Guide to Laboratory Establishment for Plant Nutrient Analysis written by M. R. Motsara and published by Fao Inter-Departmental Working Group. This book was released on 2008 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication provides practical guidelines on establishing composite service laboratories for the analysis of soil, plants, water and fertilisers (mineral, organic and biofertilisers). It also provides various analytical methods for assessing soil fertility and making nutrient recommendations, assessing quality of irrigation water, and details of the equipment, chemicals and glassware required for a given analytical capacity. Useful to administrators and planners in establishing laboratories, and to technicians through providing detailed and precise procedures for estimation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nutrient-balance assessments are valuable tools for delineating the consequences of farming on soil fertility. Various approaches and methods for different situations have been used in the past. This bulletin presents a state-of-the-art review of nutrient balance studies. It brings out the evolution of the approaches and methods, provides for comparisons among them, features the improvements made, and highlights remaining issues. This analysis will be useful in further development of the assessment methodologies as reliable tools for devising time-scale soil fertility management interventions.
Download or read book Global Soil Laboratory Assessment written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GLOSOLAN is a Global Soil Laboratory Network which aims to harmonize soil analysis methods and data so that soil information is comparable and interpretable across laboratories, countries and regions. Evidence-based decisions are critical to the achievement of Sustainable Soil Management (SSM), food security and nutrition, and Agenda 2030. While the quantity and quality of soil data are fundamental, soil information must also be harmonized and globally consistent to have impact. This report presents and discusses the results of the first GLOSOLAN online survey at the global and regional level. This is the first soil laboratory survey ever made at such a large and international scale. The analysis of the first worldwide survey of laboratories undertaking soil analyses demonstrates the motivation of these laboratories to join an international network; confirms the need for the implementation of global harmonization and standardization of analytical procedures; shows the need for improving the knowledge and competence of laboratory staff; and finally suggests that addressing the existing quality assurance/quality control issues between laboratories should start at the regional level.

Book excerpt: This report is intended for development practitioners This report is intended for development practitioners, extensionists and leaders or pioneers in farming communities, to inform them about the experiences and initiatives of farming communities in conservation agriculture in Santa Catarina State, Brazil, there have been widespread improvements in soil management. This has led to lower costs and improved returns combined with better conservation and soil resources. The main elements of success were minimum tillage, soil cover management and direct seeding practices, together with an effective and creative extension service. While these developments probably cannot be duplicated as such elsewhere, the methods and strategies may well inspire others to adapt and modify them for application in their own environments elsewhere, the methods and strategies may well inspire others to adapt and modify them for application in their own environments.
