Download or read book F3H Demon in Detail Scale written by Bert Kinzey and published by Detail & Scale. This book was released on 2013-12-18 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than thirty-five years, the Detail & Scale Series of aviation publications was considered one of the best references on military aircraft available. Focusing on the physical details of the aircraft, such as cockpits, engines, avionics and electronics, armament, landing gear, and more, each of the sixty-nine titles in the series provided the most detailed look at a wide variety of aircraft dating from World War II to the present. The “F3H Demon in Detail & Scale” continues the well-established and respected Detail & Scale format as the first digital title in this series. It covers McDonnell’s Demon, a jet fighter flown by the U. S. Navy in the 1950s and 1960s, in extensive detail. There are more than 340 photographs, and of these, more than 140 are photographs of details covering the Demon inside and out. All of the detail photos are in color, and almost all were taken specifically for this publication. The 340+ photographs are supplemented with more than 50 art profiles and illustrations, all of which were created just for this new title in the Detail & Scale Series. Every squadron to fly the Demon is covered along with information about their deployments aboard aircraft carriers of the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. As with all books in the Detail & Scale Series, a special section is provided for scale modelers that reviews the model kits available of the Demon.
Download or read book Learning to Love the Bomb written by Sean M. Maloney and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Learning to Love the Bomb, Sean M. Maloney explores the controversial subject of Canada's acquisition of nuclear weapons during the Cold War. Based on newly declassified Canadian and U.S. documents, it examines policy, strategy, operational, and technical matters and weaves these seemingly disparate elements into a compelling story that finally unlocks several Cold War mysteries. For example, while U.S. military forces during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis were focused on the Caribbean Sea and the southeastern United States, Canadian forces assumed responsibility for defending the northern United States, with aircraft armed with nuclear depth charges flying patrols and guarding against missile attack by Soviet submarines. This defensive strategy was a closely guarded secret because it conflicted with Canada's image as a peacekeeper and therefore a more passive member of NATO than its ally to the south. It is revealed here for the first time. The place of nuclear weapons in Canadian history has, until now, been a highly secret and misunderstood field subject to rumor, rhetoric, half-truths, and propaganda. Learning to Love the Bomb reveals the truth about Canada's role as a nuclear power.

Download or read book Drone Warfare written by Dave Sloggett and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An unmanned aerial vehicle, commonly known as a drone, is an aircraft without a human pilot on board. Its flight is either controlled autonomously by computers in the vehicle, or under the remote control of a navigator or pilot on the ground or in another vehicle. Drone Warfare is one of the first books to examine the development and use of such aerial drones. Drones have been much maligned in the media and popular culture and there has been much controversy over their deployment. This book reveals the history of unmanned aircraft, their recent development, and why they have emerged onto the scene, setting the record straight about drones and their use. Drone Warfare answers questions such as: Why did the United States invest so highly drone technology? When did all that start? What barriers had to be overcome? What was there before drones arrived? What roles did drones play in Iraq and Afghanistan? Were they successful? What new developments emerged during operations? Did they save lives? How many have been shot down and where? Will all air forces be drone based in the future? What other applications may arise in the civilian market? In a timely publication, Drone Warfare sets the record straight on unmanned aerial vehicles and explores technology and usage around the globe.
