Book excerpt: The love of her life, a beautiful adopted son, a successful career in academia, Dr. Faye Davis appears to have it all. She's finally made her life into what she thinks it should be. But it came with a heavy price, a piece of her soul. Living with the things she's done to attain the perfect life has left her questioning where her ethical line lies and how far she will push it back if necessary. It all started when her relationship began with now husband, Dr. Todd Davis. Behind the scenes, there were always certain individuals scheming to take what belonged to her or take her life in another direction, and that hasn't changed. The dispirited region of West Texas provides the backdrop to Faye's struggles to hold on to what she holds dear. Chaos looms at every turn when she learns that certain things and people in her life are not what they appear to be, but worse, when some proved to be exactly what or who she knew them to be. When she learns her life is on the line, she's ready to fight. But when her situation causes others to lose theirs, Faye learns the ultimate lesson . . . sometimes you need to just let go.

Book Deep Deep in the Rough Rough

Download or read book Deep Deep in the Rough Rough written by Lory Smith and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-02-10 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DEEP, DEEP in the ROUGH, ROUGH is a golf comedy about a golf match conceived by four wealthy members of the famous Burning Bridges Golf Club, who, in a drunken bet, hire four amiable losers to play a golf match like no other, a throwback to the earliest days of golf -- through 4 states, over 40 days and covering 400 miles -- through the wilderness! Accompanying the unlikely foursome is a crusty old codger named Cookie, driving a team of horses and a tricked-out Conestoga wagon and the scorekeepers of the game, an ex-KGB couple named Boris and Ludmilla representing the Royal and Ancient Golf Union, the owners of the rules of golf. What starts out a crazy bet soon becomes a worldwide sensation as the bizarro foursome and their epic golf match are covered by the television sports reporter Donna Dina and her intrepid cameraman. What transpires is a golf match of biblical proportions, through the area known as the Four Corners, where New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona share a border, but not a golf course in hundreds of miles! Through the wide use of the players dreams and fantasies, as well as a wild concoction of memorable characters they meet along the way, this unlikely journey highlights the deeper meanings of the game of golf and ultimately leads to bonds of love and friendship no one could have ever imagined. Deep, Deep in the Rough, Rough could forever change the nature of golf and, perhaps, golf in nature. Hold on to your golf carts because this is one wild ride you will never forget.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She opens the door and, in a split second, her past and her destiny collide. Esther “Ez” Summers could never have prepared herself for what she’d find when that door swung open. Standing there, big, dark, and beautiful, is someone she’s never met, someone who’s beyond familiar. And someone who’s going to ask more of her than anyone has in over fifty-five million years. She’s not ready. At least she thinks she’s not. But Austrello, a man she’d only met a second before, asks her to do the unthinkable and return to her home dimension of Endor. She fears she’ll be ended as soon as she steps through that portal, but her people need her. The evil that’s fallen upon them is something they can’t fight alone. They need a hero. They need a warrior. They need their queen. And she needs Alan, but she knows this journey will be too much for him—too dangerous and possibly too long. If she leaves, she believes they’ll never see each other again. She doesn’t want to go. Austrello doesn’t want to go. But Alan does, and she knows he can’t. Arrangements are made and concessions are brokered, concessions that are undone with one small mistake. The third book in the Witch of Endor series, Torn Apart introduces us to the one person who can lure Ez back to Endor. Between the sci-fi romance, quantum mechanics, and theoretical physics is a real-world question every soldier in history has asked: Are there some things worth the journey when you walk away from love?

Book excerpt: Ben Hogan's accomplishments on the golf course are the stuff of legends, but his life off it was exceedingly private. In this biography, author Tim Scott demonstrates why such public perception was not representative of Hogan's personality, offering a firsthand glimpse into the famous golfer's humor and sensitivity. Hogan wasn't perfect, and many of his fine qualities were never made public until now, as Tim Scott shares his personal experience with Hogan as well as Hogan's friends, family, and acquaintances. Along the way, a clearer picture emerges of Hogan as a man, a golfer, a friend, and a husband.

Book The Iranian Languages

Download or read book The Iranian Languages written by Gernot Windfuhr and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 962 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Iranian languages form the major eastern branch of the Indo-European group of languages, itself part of the larger Indo-Iranian family. Estimated to have between 150 and 200 million native speakers, the Iranian languages constitute one of the world’s major language families. This comprehensive volume offers a detailed overview of the principle languages which make up this group: Old Iranian, Middle Iranian, and New Iranian. The Iranian Languages is divided into fifteen chapters. The introductory chapters by the editor present a general overview and a detailed discussion of the linguistic typology of Iranian. The individual chapters which follow are written by leading experts in the field. These provide the reader with concise, non-technical descriptions of a range of Iranian languages. Each chapter follows the same pattern and sequence of topics, taking the reader through the significant features not only of phonology and morphology but also of syntax; from phrase level to complex sentences and pragmatics. Ample examples on all levels are provided with detailed annotation for the non-specialist reader. In addition, each chapter covers lexis, sociolinguistic and typological issues, and concludes with annotated sample texts. This unique resource is the ideal companion for undergraduate and postgraduate students of linguistics and language. It will also be of interest to researchers or anyone with an interest in historical linguistics, linguistics anthropology and language development. Gernot Windfuhr is Professor of Iranian Studies at the University of Michigan; he has published widely on Persian and Iranian languages and linguistics and related languages, as well as on other aspects of Iranian culture including Persian literature and Pre-Islamic Iranian religions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As I walk down the path of life, I find that many things around me affect the way I think and the decisions I make. One of the biggest effects of my life was the night of the Tet Offensive in Vietnam in 1968. At 4:00 a.m., our bomb dump blew up, and our fuel cell, with fuel for three squadrons of aircraft, blew up. Our perimeter was breached. I thought I was going to check out. I made a promise to the good Lord that I would be a productive member of society. He has been a big part of every decision I have made. I know that the day comes. I don’t meet His standard or requirements. He will dial up my number. Today, at age seventy-five years old, my doctor told me to get my life in order. I made out my will. And I made up a living will. I set up and paid for my funeral, sold everything I didn’t need. When the time comes to meet my maker, I will thank Him for allowing me to continue down my path of life. Only then will I know how He feels about my journey.
