Wealthy Francisco Munoz, descendant of Hernán Cortéz seeks the power of the stone for his son Nahuel, it's rightful heir. Destined to cross paths, the twins meet the mysterious Vittorio De la Vega who also lusts after and is drawn to the totem, as does an evil retired drug lord and dark nagual. When armed para-military thugs arrive at their jungle dig, young Patch and Yacey must confront their attackers, and along side their nagual mentors, defend their lives and the totem with their only weapons, the powers of nagualism. The author journeys from a mountaintop peyote pilgrimage of the Huichol people of western Mexico to the home of Tibetan monks in Mexico City and the hut of a Mazatec mushroom shaman in a remote Oaxacan village. She learns the Twilight Language of Dreaming, an avenue for understanding the energetic gateways of human existence. Don Juan Matus defines the language of this dream power and doña Celestina tutors on sex, reproduction, and male-female affairs in relation to the state of the world. Twilight Language enables communication between beings of the upper and lower realms. The author describes how it is possible for our individual and collective consciousness to be transported to higher levels. At the conclusion of each of her narratives she offers detailed exercises for experiences in extra-lucid dreaming as well as case studies showing how to apply dreaming techniques in the “real” world. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Every human being is by right a warrior who has achieved his place in the world in a battle of life and death. Look at it this way, at least once, as sperm, we all fight the bullfight for life - a unique contest against millions of other competitors - and we win! Now the battle continues... "A warrior knows that there is no guarantee of triumph over death. Even so, he fights his battle, not because he believes he will win, but because of the emotion of the war itself. For him, to give his war is already a victory. And while he fights he rejoices, because, for those who have already died, every second of life is a gift." "I love my children because they are deposits of my energy, my wife because she washes my clothes, she cooks and I catch her, my dog because he takes care of the house, my country because I was born here, my god because he's going to save me...". "The sorcerers have discovered the most refined form of love, because they love themselves. They have put the power of passion at the service of being, and it gives them the impetus to undertake the only quest that counts: that of oneself.

Book The Seeing Eye

    Book Details:
  • Author : Walter L. Brenneman
  • Publisher : Penn State University Press
  • Release : 1982
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book The Seeing Eye written by Walter L. Brenneman and published by Penn State University Press. This book was released on 1982 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Establishing a link between phenomenology and hermeneutics as seen by philosophers (notably Heidegger and Husserl) and as applied by students of religion (notably Eliade and van der Leeuw) is the pioneering aim of this book. No existing book ties together the cross-disciplinary strands in a way that is useful for religious studies. A phenomenological and therefore hermeneutical approach to religion "prides itself on being aware of its own presuppositions and those of others that are brought to bear on data to be interpreted." Thus it "seeks to gain an access to the religious worlds of other peoples in as pure a form as possible." Phenomenological hermeneutics differs from the traditional comparative study of religion in an important way: the new method attempts an empathic understanding of religious experiences before making any comparisons or drawing any inferences. Part I shows how the phenomenological approach must arise from a "crisis of doubt within the prevailing tradition." It goes on to compare this approach to the mystics' understanding of the "scope and limitations of rational consciousness," contrasting it with the nominalists' dichotomy between faith and reason. Part II starts with Eliade's "creative hermeneutics," which holds that an object or an act becomes real only insofar as it imitates or repeats an archetype, particularly the archetype of the sacred. It goes on to develop Cassirer's point that "myth is a particular way of seeing." Part Ill starts by showing how art, like religion, is an "imitation of an archetype." It goes on to apply hermeneutical phenomenology to the interpretation of ritual. "Ritual gesture," Chapter 6 argues, "thematizes the world," establishing a mystical symbolic relationship between body and world, the seen and the unseen. Part Ill continues with a critique of the writings of Carlos Castaneda, arguing that these contain "the symbolic elements of both archaic shamanism and classical mysticism." The final chapter treats the "three-tiered cosmos" that is universal in folklore: the tier of family-home-land-artifacts, the tier of clan-tribe-nation, and the tier of weather-seasons-natural forces, Each tier has its loric power, and these powers are united by shamans and mystics in one sacred "kingdom of power."
