Book The Relationship Between Retention Employee Engagement Job Satisfaction and Intrinsic Motivation Among Nurses

Download or read book The Relationship Between Retention Employee Engagement Job Satisfaction and Intrinsic Motivation Among Nurses written by Ola N. AL-Sheyab and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated how engagement, job satisfaction, and intrinsic motivation will affect retention among nurses. A sample of 150 nurses (CNAs, LPNs, and RNs) employed at medical centers in Sioux City (IA-SD-NE) and Carbondale, Illinois was selected using cluster random sampling. Employee engagement (Independent-Variable1) was measured against the Utrecht Work Engagement Survey (UWES), job satisfaction (Independent-Variable 2) was measured against the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), and intrinsic motivation (Independent-Variable3) was measured against the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI). The study followed a sequential transformative design, with all research questions or hypotheses examined through multinomial regression, which indicated the odds ratio of nurses' decision or intent to leave or stay against leaving their current position. The regression analysis showed that intrinsic motivation and job satisfaction were significantly more likely to predict nurses' intent to leave than employee engagement. The interviews showed employee engagement, job satisfaction, and intrinsic motivation to be an important part of the nurses' decision to leave or stay.

Book Using Self Determination Theory to Predict Employee Job Satisfaction in a State Psychiatric Hospital

Download or read book Using Self Determination Theory to Predict Employee Job Satisfaction in a State Psychiatric Hospital written by Paul Anthony Callens and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of motivation and its relationship with desired outcomes has been studied in a variety of contexts as evidenced in the literature. Motivation, its origin, type, and its effect, has been theorized to range from non-existent to the main driving force behind all behavior. Self-determination theory, a more recent motivational theory, posits that motivation is a driving force of behavior; however, the amount of control one has to perform freely a given task determines whether this motivation is internally (autonomously) generated or externally (controlled) generated. The idea of motivation affecting outcomes is clearly evidenced in research geared toward finding the role of motivation on satisfaction of a given job, task, or assignment. This research reviewed studies that focused on motivation and its role in job satisfaction. A theoretical thread was postulated that intrinsic motivation is as good as, if not better in most instances, than extrinsic motivation in determining job satisfaction. Also, job satisfaction leads to greater lengths of tenure in a given job. Both of these statements were affirmed from a review of the literature. However, one question remains: what type of intrinsic motivation factors best correlate to job satisfaction (and its potential effect of improving tenure)? Therefore, the overall objective of this study was to determine whether various forms of intrinsic motivation correlate with an employee's satisfaction with his or her job or career. The study was conducted using a survey method that incorporated the participation of 172 participants from two very similar psychiatric hospitals in the southeastern United States. Multiple linear regression was used to determine if any relationship existed between three intrinsic motivation factors (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) and job satisfaction. The results of this study suggest that positive relationships do exist between that of autonomy and relatedness intrinsic motivation factors and job satisfaction scores. The combined predictor factors (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) yielded an R2 = .145, indicating that almost 15% of the total job satisfaction scores can be explained by these three variables. Additional, exploratory regression analyses were conducted using experimental statements and selected demographic information. Conclusions and recommendations for future research are also given.

Book Uproot Healthcare

Download or read book Uproot Healthcare written by J. Deane Waldman and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you work anywhere in healthcare, Uproot Healthcare was written to you and about you. It answers two constant nagging questions. [Why does the system I work for make it hard to care for people? [What can I do to fix my most critically ill patient - healthcare? If you are not directly involved in healthcare, Uproot Healthcare was written for you. The author can give you one guarantee: some day you will need healthcare. When that day comes, you will want a system that provides error-free, high quality care; that you can easily access; that we can all afford; and that offers better outcomes tomorrow than it does today. Uproot Healthcare shows you how to get involved so you can get what you need and want. Uproot Healthcare does not offer Waldman's answer, another fix that fails, or some "solution" imposed on us from above. It provides the foundation for a discussion on healthcare, to create a national consensus, and for us to make healthcare work for everyone, not easily nor quickly, but surely.

Book Motivational Orientations of Registered Nurses who Pursue an Advanced Education

Download or read book Motivational Orientations of Registered Nurses who Pursue an Advanced Education written by Rosemary Richardson and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the motivational orientations (intrinsic motivation-to know, intrinsic motivation-toward accomplishment, intrinsic motivation-to experience stimulation, extrinsic motivation-identified, extrinsic motivation-introjected, extrinsic motivation-external regulation, and amotivation) of registered nurses who pursued a graduate degree. In addition, the study looked at the differences in demographic characteristics (age, income, and years of experience) and psychological needs (competence, relatedness, and autonomy). Lastly, it looked at the relationship between motivational orientations and psychological needs. The research problem included the following four questions: 1) are there differences between the motivational orientations of registered nurses who seek a master's versus those who seek a doctorate; 2) are there differences in demographic characteristics of those nurses pursuing a master's degree versus a doctoral degree; 3) are there differences in the psychological needs identified between those pursuing a master's versus a doctoral degree; and 4) is there a relationship between the types of motivational orientation and psychological needs? Results indicated no statistical differences in the motivational orientations reported by registered nurses who pursued a doctoral or master's degree. Registered nurses seeking a master's or doctoral degree scored the highest on intrinsic motivation-to know, extrinsic motivation-identified second, and third on intrinsic motivation-toward accomplishment. There were no significant differences in the three demographic characteristics self-reported by the nurses pursuing a master's degree or doctoral degree. Results revealed that there were no significant differences in the three psychological needs for these nurses. Results also revealed that there was a significant correlation between both extrinsic motivation-introjected and intrinsic motivation-experience stimulation to autonomy. In addition, there was a significant correlation between both extrinsic motivation-introjected and intrinsic motivation-experience stimulation and relatedness. Lastly, there was a significant correlation between intrinsic motivation-to know and competence.
