Book Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery

Download or read book Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery written by Bonnie An Henderson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, in a concise format, explains how to perform manual small incision cataract surgery. The procedure is broken down into the chief elements and described in a step by step manner. Besides the description of the procedure, the book covers indications, necessary supplies, preparation, complication management, and postoperative care. The authors are experts from around the world, and the book will be of value both for surgeons new to this technique and for experienced surgeons who need a review of the procedure. While phacoemulsification surgery has now become the standard of care, understanding how to perform manual extracapsular cataract extractions competently is crucial when faced with complications during phacoemulsification surgery, when operating in a region of the world without access to phacoemulsification or femtosecond lasers, or when a manual approach may be a better choice for the patient.

Book Difficulties in Cataract Surgery

Download or read book Difficulties in Cataract Surgery written by Artashes Zilfyan and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thousands of years, cataract surgery continues to be the "pearl" of ophthalmic surgery. It is explained by the fact that cataract removal always leads to an increase in visual acuity of patients. A new technology of cataract removal, phacoemulsification, was introduced by Charles Kelman in 1967. Despite this, it was difficult for the surgeons to transform from extracapsular cataract extraction to the new method - phacoemulsification. Recently, in the ophthalmological practice, the method of femtolaser cataract surgery (FLACS) has been introduced. This method allows you to automatically perform the basic stages of cataract surgery - corneal incisions, capsulorhexis, nucleus fracture. At the same time, to apply the various techniques of cataract surgery, the surgeon must possess virtually all the necessary techniques. This is dictated by the fact that, as a rule, cataract itself is rarely isolated - senile. Knowledge of the basic rules of cataract surgery, the use of pupillary rings and iris retractors in narrow pupils, the use of capsular rings in subluxations of the lens, the use of special modes of phaco in severe late cataracts, and a comprehensive clinical way of thinking can undoubtedly reduce the complications of cataract surgery.

Book Cataract Surgery Advanced Techniques

Download or read book Cataract Surgery Advanced Techniques written by Lorenzo Fernandez and published by Foster Academics. This book was released on 2019-06-14 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cataract surgery is a kind of surgery which involves the removal of the natural lens of the eye, which has developed an opacification. It is replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL). Two of the most common cataract surgery procedures include phacoemulsification (phaco) and extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE). A machine having an ultrasonic handpiece equipped with a titanium or steel tip is used while performing phacoemulsification. In the process of extracapsular cataract extraction, almost the entire natural lens is removed but the elastic lens capsule is left intact to allow the implantation of an intraocular lens. The ever growing need of advanced technology is the reason that has fueled the research in the field of cataract surgery in recent times. This book explores all the important aspects of cataract surgery in the present day scenario. Doctors, ophthalmologists, researchers and students actively engaged in this field will find this book full of crucial and unexplored concepts.

Download or read book The History of Modern Cataract Surgery written by Marvin L. Kwitko and published by Kugler Publications. This book was released on 1998 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surely the threat of blindness from whatever cause, is an event faced by an ever-growing segment of our aging population. However, when the cause was cataract formation, over the centuries a definite treatment evolved and became available to help those afflicted with this problem, from couching, through crude extra-capsular Graeffe knife extraction, intra-capsular cataract surgery, and planned extra-capsular surgery, to phacoemulsification (ultrasound or laser). Doctors, therefore, recognized very early that there was one blinding condition which could be treated and in which vision could be i.

Book Essentials of Cataract Surgery

Download or read book Essentials of Cataract Surgery written by Joanne Galbraith and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cataract surgery is the process for removing the natural lens of the eye that has developed an opacification and replacing it with an intraocular lens. The opacification, which is referred to as a cataract, is developed due to metabolic changes of the crystalline lens fibers over time. Early symptoms of cataract disease include reduced acuity at low light levels, and strong glare from lights and small light sources at night. The cloudy natural lens of the patient is either removed by the process of phacoemulsification or by extracapsular cataract extraction. In phacoemulsification, either a machine with an ultrasonic handpiece with titanium or steel tip, or a cracker machine is used. Extracapsular cataract extraction involves the technique where the entire lens is taken out while the elastic lens capsule is left intact. This enables the implantation of an artificial lens. An intraocular lens is inserted in the surgery through a small or enlarged incision. The ever-growing need for advanced technology is the reason that has fueled the research in the field of cataract surgery in recent times. This book includes some of the vital pieces of work being conducted across the world in this area of study. With state-of-the-art inputs by acclaimed experts of this field, it targets students and professionals.
