He has one condition though: I cannot get close to a man or be seen with one during the one year I'm contracted with him. I thought it'd be a piece of cake until I met his two grown-up, gloriously handsome sons, who won't take no for an answer. Including from me. Download or read book Aviator Extraordinaire written by G. J. Christopher Paul and published by Casemate Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-19 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "At Cambridge, as an undergraduate of St. John's, I realized that, more than anything else, I wanted to fly.A lifelong fascination and love of flying and aircrafts is fuel for this engaging autobiography by G J Christopher Paul, CB, DFC; a man bitten by the aviation bug at an air display at the age of four, and thereafter a devotee. His remarkable RAF career was followed by an eventful civilian career in aviation, which saw him organize rallies at places such as Sywell, encouraging 'flying for fun'. Both halves of his flying life are detailed here in chronological order and in his own words. Minor additions have been made to offer technical descriptions to readers unfamiliar with Paul's aviation vocabulary. The fifty year span of his career covered an incredible period of aviation history; from gaining his license in the 1920s to his retirement in the 1970s, there was virtually no iconic or, for that matter, obscure aircraft that Christopher Paul did not fly. Included in the book is an extensive appendix in which Paul details, again in chronological order, every aircraft type he flew during his career. It is a veritable roll of honor of every conceivable aircraft, both British built and International, across arguably the most important period of aviation development.Interwoven with his own career progression and experiences are world events and situations. Coupled with this we can clearly see the development of aircraft over a period of over fifty years. Eloquently written, this is the autobiography of a man who described flying a Spitfire as having 'one's own wings'; the thrill of flight is translated here, and the effect is equally thrilling. A lively account of a life in the skies. "

Book Clifford Wendell Daydreamer Extraordinaire

Download or read book Clifford Wendell Daydreamer Extraordinaire written by Michael Allen and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-07-29 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clifford Wendell was a most unusual boy for his age. He did not engage in life physically in team sports or clubs; instead, he was like a benevolent editor of a great, unfinished book. He loved to read, and he treated it much like a sport. He would immerse himself so deeply into the story that he would inhabit the life of the main character and fly off across the oceans, into space, or journey to the desert. He was transformed by the adventures in each book. As time went on, his imagination grew and invented original stories that carried him to any realm and allowed him to experience life from any point of view, age, or character. One day he would be visiting Lawrence of Arabia, and on another, he would follow Neil Armstrong to the moon and beyond. Throughout his travels, Clifford had become a samurai warrior, a secret agent, a pilot, and a racecar driver simply by calling upon the blended memories of a hundred adventure stories. He loved to fancy every imaginable situation, and when he did, he became his own great hero—daydreamer extraordinaire. Clifford spent many hours watching and observing people and noticed an odd disconnect between who they wanted to be and who they actually were. Responsibility had dulled their inner spirits. He was saddened by the struggles and obligations that prevented these people from time at play. He could not understand why people did not make a greater effort to live a more playful life, imagining any life they wished to live and then living it. Clifford wanted to achieve two important goals more than anything. First he wanted to see space—but not just see it—touch it, swim in it, and speed through it to discover other worlds. Second, he wanted to fill the pages of his own book with his own adventures. Clifford must have had 30 or 40 single-page drafts, each the start of his new creation, but mostly unused modified versions of the original. It was only a matter of time before his own 14 years of life would unfold one word at a time onto the pages of a riveting book for his adoring fans. He fantasized about owning a bookstore where he could sell signed copies. He could even picture his book standing upright and nestled against the others in the library with his name emblazoned on the spine in gold letters. If only he knew what was inside those pages. So taken was he with the idea of writing a book that would change the world, he committed himself to the goal. Changing the world may be difficult, but his world would never be the same. He would write his book, but it would contain far more than his story alone. He would include the stories of hundreds of characters and a hundred adventures. It would become the greatest story ever told and would span the lives of every would-be dreamer that ever knew Clifford Wendell. However, this story is my story—my testament to one of the richest imaginations I have ever known. I am the Princess of Mozambia, and this is a story about my friend (whom I loved), who awakened the dreams of countless others. He inspired me to believe in the fastidious nature of the perfect dream where our stories, our dreams, and our adventures are brought together—blended just right— so we can celebrate our lives and be joyful recipients of God’s endless love. With it, we must love our neighbor, love ourselves, and dare to keep our dreams alive. Get to know Clifford Wendell as I have known him, and your next adventure may be more real than you ever expected. Perhaps your story will become the greatest story ever told.

Book Emmy Noether Mathematician Extraordinaire

Download or read book Emmy Noether Mathematician Extraordinaire written by David E. Rowe and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-09 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although she was famous as the "mother of modern algebra," Emmy Noether’s life and work have never been the subject of an authoritative scientific biography. Emmy Noether – Mathematician Extraordinaire represents the most comprehensive study of this singularly important mathematician to date. Focusing on key turning points, it aims to provide an overall interpretation of Noether’s intellectual development while offering a new assessment of her role in transforming the mathematics of the twentieth century. Hermann Weyl, her colleague before both fled to the United States in 1933, fully recognized that Noether’s dynamic school was the very heart and soul of the famous Göttingen community. Beyond her immediate circle of students, Emmy Noether’s lectures and seminars drew talented mathematicians from all over the world. Four of the most important were B.L. van der Waerden, Pavel Alexandrov, Helmut Hasse, and Olga Taussky. Noether’s classic papers on ideal theory inspired van der Waerden to recast his research in algebraic geometry. Her lectures on group theory motivated Alexandrov to develop links between point set topology and combinatorial methods. Noether’s vision for a new approach to algebraic number theory gave Hasse the impetus to pursue a line of research that led to the Brauer–Hasse–Noether Theorem, whereas her abstract style clashed with Taussky’s approach to classical class field theory during a difficult time when both were trying to find their footing in a foreign country. Although similar to Proving It Her Way: Emmy Noether, a Life in Mathematics, this lengthier study addresses mathematically minded readers. Thus, it presents a detailed analysis of Emmy Noether’s work with Hilbert and Klein on mathematical problems connected with Einstein’s theory of relativity. These efforts culminated with her famous paper "Invariant Variational Problems," published one year before she joined the Göttingen faculty in 1919.
