Book excerpt: Most of the extended instrumental playing techniques, as well as electroacoustic music in general, are still deprived of a conventional method of notation. In order to facilitate the utilization of these unconventional musical elements, a coherent and consistent notation system is developed in this work. Numerous extended techniques for playing string instruments, wind instruments, percussion instruments, keyboard instruments and vocal techniques are therefore systematically explained and previous methods of notation discussed.

Book ZUM 98 The Z Formal Specification Notation

Download or read book ZUM 98 The Z Formal Specification Notation written by Jonathan P. Bowen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-09-16 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1 In a number of recent presentations – most notably at FME’96 –oneofthe foremost scientists in the ?eld of formal methods, C.A.R. Hoare, has highlighted the fact that formal methods are not the only technique for producing reliable software. This seems to have caused some controversy, not least amongst formal methods practitioners. How can one of the founding fathers of formal methods seemingly denounce the ?eld of research after over a quarter of a century of support? This is a question that has been posed recently by some formal methods skeptics. However, Prof. Hoare has not abandoned formal methods. He is reiterating, 2 albeitmoreradically,his1987view thatmorethanonetoolandnotationwillbe requiredinthepractical,industrialdevelopmentoflarge-scalecomplexcomputer systems; and not all of these tools and notations will be, or even need be, formal in nature. Formalmethods arenotasolution, butratheroneofaselectionoftechniques that have proven to be useful in the development of reliable complex systems, and to result in hardware and software systems that can be produced on-time and within a budget, while satisfying the stated requirements. After almostthree decades, the time has come to view formalmethods in the context of overall industrial-scale system development, and their relationship to othertechniquesandmethods.Weshouldnolongerconsidertheissueofwhether we are “pro-formal” or “anti-formal”, but rather the degree of formality (if any) that we need to support in system development. This is a goal of ZUM’98, the 11th International Conference of Z Users, held for the ?rst time within continental Europe in the city of Berlin, Germany.

Download or read book The Unified Modeling Language UML 98 Beyond the Notation written by Jean Bezivin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-06-30 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains mainly the revised versions of papers presented at the wo- shop '98, "Beyond the Notation", that took place in Mulhouse, France on June 3-4, 1998. We thank all those that have made this possible, and particularly all the people in Mulhouse that worked hard to make this meeting a success, with such a short delay between the announcement and the realization. We are specially grateful to Nathalie Gaertner, who put in a tremendous amount of effort in the initial preparation of the workshop. We were pleasantly surprised of the quality of the submitted material and of the level of the technical exchanges at the Mulhouse meeting. More than one hundred attendees, from about twenty different countries, representing the main actors in the UML research and development scene, gathered in Mulhouse for two full study days. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to the authors of submitted - pers, the editorial committee for this volume, the program committee for the initial workshop, the external referees, and many others who contributed towards the final contents of this volume. Book Business Process Model and Notation

Download or read book Business Process Model and Notation written by Remco Dijkman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-11-17 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of the third workshop on Business Process Model and Notation, BPMN 2011, held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in November 2011. The 8 research papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 20 submissions. In addition, 10 short papers are included. The workshop applied a thorough reviewing process, during which each paper was reviewed by three Program Committee members. The BPMN workshop series provides a forum for academics and practitioners who share an interest in business process modeling using the business process modeling notation, which is seen by many as the de facto standard for business process modeling. This year, the workshop lasted two days and consisted of both a scientific and a practitioner event.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earle Brown (1926–2002) was a crucial part of a group of experimental composers known as the New York School, and his music intersects in fascinating ways with that of his colleagues John Cage, Morton Feldman, and Christian Wolff. This book seeks to expand our view of Brown’s work by exploring his practices as a composer and draughtsman through a selection of works composed in the United States and Europe, which included a seminal collaboration with sculptor Alexander Calder. These essays detail Brown’s compositional methods in historical context: not only his influential experiments with open form composition and graphic notation, but his interest in performance, mixed media, jazz, the Schillinger system, and his engagement with the European avant-garde. The volume also includes never before published essays by Brown that shed new light on his relationships with colleagues and the ideas that shaped his work, in addition to several color photographs of Brown’s paintings.
