Book Manufacturing Exports from Indian States

Download or read book Manufacturing Exports from Indian States written by Jaya Prakash Pradhan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the less-explored dimensions of how industries in different Indian subnational spaces or states have responded to the growing phenomenon of internationalization. What factors have influenced firms participating in global business? Have state (both central and provincial) policies acted as catalyst for local firms? Not only does this study delve into these issues; it also painstakingly develops a comprehensive database that remains unique in the absence of reliable official statistics on this subject to date. Efforts have been made to establish a reasonably consistent dataset for the period 1990-2008 derived from the CMIE-PROWESS database. Care has been taken to condense the data and classify it by sector, location, size and ownership. The study delineates export patterns by firm and state and explores factors influencing export decisions according to sector, size and location. A further interesting aspect is the book’s critical examination of industrial and trade promotion policies at the state/regional level that might have contributed to or hindered exporting by firms. The states considered for detailed policy discussions are highly diverse and include Gujarat, Odisha and Karnataka. To address the glaring absence of literature on the role of subnational factors in enterprises’ export performance, a preliminary state-by-state analysis of the spatial determinants of firms’ export activities is also provided.

Book The Relationship Between Manufacturing Strategy and Export Performance in Australia

Download or read book The Relationship Between Manufacturing Strategy and Export Performance in Australia written by Ravi Upret and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , language: English, abstract: This literature review identifies the relationship between manufacturing strategies and export performance of big and small firms. Johnson stated that back in 1960 Australian manufacturing contributed around 25% to the GDP, which got reduced to around 6.8% in the most recent years. The manufacturing in Australia is mostly centered on a few prominent sectors, like food and beverages, petrochemicals, machines and tools, metal products, textile clothing, and footwear. In the most recent years, it can be seen that most of the products manufactured in Australia are exported to the foreign countries. Different industries such as food processing, textile, motor vehicles and automotive industry, chemical industry a few prominent industries, fall under the purview of the manufacturing sector in Australia. The recent statement of the International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde about the world economic scenario indicates that the largest export market of Australia, namely, China will continue to show a downward trend in the economy. In the current year, the Chinese economy is assumed to grow at 6.9 % in the current year 2016 although the other developing economies, such as India and western countries, such as Europe and America are showing a bit recovered growth rate. It indicates that the Australia needs to rediscover its manufacturing strategy which should be aligned to the markets in these countries. The current study finds its objectives in the research, which explores any significant correlation between the manufacturing practices and export performance of manufacturing in Australia.

Book Competitiveness and External Trade Performance of the French Manufacturing Industry

This book was released on 1995-12-01 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides an assessment of competitiveness and external trade performance of the French manufacturing industry during the 1980s and early 1990s. The first part of the paper reviews developments in a broad range of competitiveness indicators. The analysis indicates that the manufacturing sector appears to have maintained its competitive position in recent years. The second part discusses developments in export market shares. The third part estimates a vector error correction model relating the trade ratio to relative unit labor costs, domestic and foreign demand, and nonprice competitiveness. Variance decompositions suggest that fluctuations in price and nonprice competitiveness account for about two-fifths of fluctuations in manufacturing trade flows.

Book excerpt: This paper explores the link between exchange rate volatility of European currencies and economic performance of several countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The elimination of intra euro-zone exchange rate volatility resulting from the introduction of the euro is estimated to affect the production structure of MENA economies and shift their exports from manufacturing to agriculture and services. At the country and industry levels, the impact of the euro is more striking in countries with higher shares of manufacturing and higher shares of exports to the euro zone.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the relationship between productivity of a manufacturing plant and its participation in exporting activities. There are 2 possible explanations for a positive relationship between the two. First, higher productivity and higher efficiency may be required if plants are to enter export markets. Second, by exporting, plants may learn of superior technologies and management techniques and increase their productivity. The paper examines both possibilities. It also examines differences in the effect of exporting on productivity between foreign- and domestic-controlled plants, and between young and older plants.

Book Innovations and Manufacturing Export Performance in the OECD Countries

Download or read book Innovations and Manufacturing Export Performance in the OECD Countries written by Jakob B. Madsen and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper addresses two puzzles in international trade, namely why traditional estimates of income elasticities of exports are implausibly high and why export growth varies much more markedly across countries than can be explained by changes in price competitiveness and variations in income growth in export markets. Using data for 18 OECD countries it is shown that market integration and the level of technology and competitiveness can, to some extent, explain these two puzzles.

This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We explore the contribution of product-quality upgrading to the export performance of six fast-growing Asian economies: China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand. We focus on measuring the impact of quality upgrading on the changes in these countries’ sectoral export shares during 1970–2010. We build a multisector Ricardian trade model which allows for changes in product quality, and calibrate it to generate predictions about export volumes. Unlike previous literature, our approach allows estimation without employing domestic production data. Our results point to quality upgrading being a key driver of export shares.
