Book Gender and Tourism Sustainability

Download or read book Gender and Tourism Sustainability written by Claudia Eger and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the relationship between gender and sustainability in tourism. Whilst an extensive body of work exists in the areas of gender and sustainability, these two fields of knowledge are seldom combined to examine tourism phenomena. When we look at the evolution of tourism, we see that sustainability has become an essential element in educational programmes, policy making and strategic considerations for organisations and destinations. Whilst the beginnings of tourism sustainability were challenging, presently, its relevance is seldom questioned. However, this situation is not the case with gender research. Although gender theorising and research have existed for over a century, and a rich legacy of knowledge exists on this topic, meaningful and respectful engagement with this line of scholarship is thus far peripheral in tourism studies. The aim of this book is to reflect on and rethink the intersection of gender and tourism sustainability through the lens of gender theory and feminist epistemology to stay with the trouble and devise pathways for sustainability gender knowledge. This book will be of great interest to students, researchers, and academics in tourism, gender and sustainability, as well as tourism management. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism.

Book Researching Entrepreneurship

Download or read book Researching Entrepreneurship written by Per Davidsson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-18 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entrepreneurship is a phenomenon of tremendous societal importance. It is also an elusive phenomenon, and researching entrepreneurship is therefore fun, fascinating and frustrating at times. In Researching Entrepreneurship, Per Davidsson, one of the most highly recognized entrepreneurship scholars shares in a personal and readable way his rich experience and ideas on how entrepreneurship can or should be researched. After a comprehensive treatment of entrepreneurship as societal phenomenon and scholarly domain, the core chapters of the book discuss design, sampling, operationalization and analysis issues on several levels of analysis: individual, venture, firm, industry, region and nation. The book is targeted at doctoral students and other relative newcomers to the field of entrepreneurship research. However, taking a fresh, reflective perspective and looking beyond research conventions, it should provide potential for inspiration and food for thought also for experienced entrepreneurship researchers.

Download or read book Kitchen Capitalism written by Margaret Sherrard Sherraden and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Businesses come to life as owners are allowed to speak in their own words in this first in-depth examination of self-employment told from the perspectives of low-income microentrepreneurs. The book systematically analyzes a range of issues, including who chooses to open a micro business, and why; what resources do they bring to their business venture; how well will their venture fare; and what contributes to the growth or decline of their business. The authors conclude that most microentrepreneurs believe self-employment offers a range of monetary and nonmonetary benefits and argue it would be more advantageous to view microenterprise as a social and economic development strategy rather than simply as an anti-poverty strategy. Based on this observation, a range of strategies to better promote microenterprise programs among the poor is advanced, with the goal of targeting the most promising approaches.
