Book Exploring Sucession Planning for Executive Leadership Positions Within Ohio s Faith based Organizations

Download or read book Exploring Sucession Planning for Executive Leadership Positions Within Ohio s Faith based Organizations written by Gilda Drammeh and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The predicted shortage in the number of qualified professionals available to fill vacant executive leadership positions is a significant concern for the non-profit sector. This qualitative multiple-case study explored the general problem of the potential lack of succession planning, resulting in the inability to identify future leaders within Ohio’s faith-based organizations. Specifically, this study concentrated on the selection process of candidates for executive leadership positions, and the succession planning process that contributed to a successful or failure to implement. In a purposeful sample, eighteen (18) senior leaders located in the eastern and western regions of Ohio, were selected for this study. As part of the conceptual framework, Hershey and Blanchard’s (1993) situational leadership theory were used to understand the group facilitator’s leadership style during succession planning activities. Data was collected and analyzed from semi-structured interviews, documents, and archival records. Findings are discussed from the perspective of senior leaders, which included current and former volunteers, and employees that previously participated in succession planning activities to appoint a new leader at Ohio’s faith-based organizations. Five themes emerged from the study and highlighted the strategies chosen by senior leaders as they prepared for succession planning activities. Furthermore, the results of this study and the future recommendations provided, contributed to the body of knowledge, and expanded the topic of succession planning for executive leadership positions in the non-profit sector.

Book Leadership Succession

Download or read book Leadership Succession written by Stewart D. Friedman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-04 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the most critical strategic activity in any organization, namely, who gets chosen to sit in the top echelon of the pyramid. Friedman argues that it is the quality of corporate leadership that will determine corporate winners and losers in the global competitive game. The stakes in leadership succession are high. The selection of key figures is the one human resource activity that no one belittles for being of secondary importance. Indeed, leadership succession is so important and central in many executive minds that it crowds out any other work. The succession process is often fraught with political intrigue, it lacks discipline, and excludes meaningful involvement of senior human resource executives. The contributors to this imaginative volume reveal a succession planning process that is frequently sloppy, superficial, and regularly sabotaged by senior management when they give it short shrift in terms of quality time. In addition, senior management often overrides sound decisions when it comes to filling key positions. The result is a lack of integrity throughout the human resource systems that eventually leads to a collapse of belief in the system and its governance.Noel M. Tichy, a leading figure in the studies of human resource management, has said, ""Stewart Friedman is to be congratulated for a successful effort in providing a state of the art look at leadership succession. [He] provides us with an empirical database of what is happening in U.S. corporations, helpful prescriptions for future improvement of leadership succession, and a realistic assessment of the human resource executive challenges in this area.

Book Succession Planning and Management A Guide to Organizational Systems and Practices

Download or read book Succession Planning and Management A Guide to Organizational Systems and Practices written by David Berke and published by Center for Creative Leadership. This book was released on 2005-06-24 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of succession-related practices is to ensure that there are ready replacements for key positions in an organization so that turnover will not negatively affect the organization's performance. CCL first published an annotated bibliography on succession planning in 1995. That bibliography focused primarily on the link between succession and management development. This bibliography has a broader scope; it is an update and expansion, commensurate with the maturation of this area of practice. In addition to linkages between succession and development, we also consider representative literature on CEO succession, high potentials, and succession systems and architecture. It is hoped that those who use this bibliography will find resources that help them in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing effective succession systems in their organizations.

Book The Exploration of Executive Leadership Succession Planning Strategies in New Jersey Community Colleges

Download or read book The Exploration of Executive Leadership Succession Planning Strategies in New Jersey Community Colleges written by Mary Marken Trickel and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to escalating impending retirements, the American Association of Community Colleges has recognized a potential crisis in community college executive leadership. Leadership succession planning has rarely been incorporated into community college strategic planning, although college presidents and boards of trustees have acknowledged an impending crisis. The lack of leadership development opportunities may preclude advancement by those serving as middle management administrators. Leadership succession planning has been used in the business sector to identify high performers with leadership potential, and provide leadership development to prepare individuals for senior level positions. Strategic planning for leadership succession was studied in the New Jersey Community College System, using a qualitative, multi-case study. Triangulation included interviews with college leadership to address the study's research questions, survey instrument distribution to college administrators, and investigation of archival documents. Research disclosed that community college leaders valued the principle of leadership succession planning, but most colleges did not have succession planning or leadership development programs intended to develop college executives. A major focus to address the potential crisis in executive leadership succession planning is the determination of what comprises an effectual plan. Based on the study's data, recommendations include (a) leadership succession, (b) development of a succession-planning consortium, (c) communication of a formal succession plan, (d) identification of potential high performers, and (e) formal mentoring at individual institutions.

Book Succession Planning Basics for Faith Based and Secular Organisations

Download or read book Succession Planning Basics for Faith Based and Secular Organisations written by Richard Dare Ajiboye and published by Triumph Busy Prints Limited. This book was released on 2021-03-31 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book delves into topical issues that are scarcely talked about in some organisations (secular and FBOs). It points out the sureness of succession just as death is, even though most organisations do less to think about the topic of succession until it is rather too late. Contemporary issues about succession planning were discussed using the Relay Race, Horse Race and God Factor Theories and their significance in identifying and grooming prospective successors for key and leadership positions. This book also emphasises the imperativeness of role transition either planned for or not and the attendant challenges of not planning for succession. It practically guides about how to start off a healthy and successful succession planning process from identifying prospective successors to leadership or role transition.Critical issues raised in the book and pragmatic solutions proffered have vivid applications in all organisations either FBOs or secular, which makes the book appealing to all organisations not minding its size, purpose or geographical location. The book comes at a time when some organisations are seeking to find solutions to organisational management challenges. Therefore, the book Succession Planning Basics for Faith-Based and Secular Organisations is recommended with confidence to general readership, especially to students of management, leaders in FBOs, captain of industries and as many as may want their ideals and philosophies to endure long after them.

Book Succession Planning in Nonprofit Organizations and Transitioning Millennials Entering Into Leadership Positions

Download or read book Succession Planning in Nonprofit Organizations and Transitioning Millennials Entering Into Leadership Positions written by Kanesha Wingo and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the past decade, leadership has changed. The faces of leadership are changing into a new group of leaders with different strategies for leadership. Millennials have entered the workforce and are aged to enter into leadership positions. Millennial leadership will change the culture and operation of the workforce because of the unique way they prefer to operate as employees. Research has found that most millennials are entering the workforce while baby boomers are leaving the workforce and opening leadership and executive positions (Doyle, 2014). It also finds that millennials are the most difficult group of employees to recruit and retain. This can become a challenge when looking for employees to fill executive roles or implement them into succession plans. The need for leadership positions to be filled by competent and qualified employees are essential for all organizations. This need is fulfilled by succession planning. Succession planning is a plan that places a qualified incumbent into a leadership role in the event of succession. The plan would include an analysis based on the needs, goals, and strategies of the organization (HR Planning: Succession planning, 2015). In non-profit organizations the need for succession planning is very important. In small nonprofits with less than 50 employees it is recommended to find talent from within the organization. This allows new leadership to become installed with the same goals and a clear understanding of the mission and vision. An analysis of existing research and of my own qualitative research finds that most nonprofit organizations do not have an effective succession plan in place. It also finds that nonprofits are not prepared for millennial leaders. A face to face interview with a leader at XYZ Corporation finds that there is a method in place in the event of succession. They also mention that there is not a model or policy in place to allow continuity. A survey monkey survey distributed to nonprofit employees finds that many are not aware of what succession planning is or have not heard about it within their organization.

Given the important contribution of these faith-based institutions to the educational landscape it is both importen

Book Succession Planning in the Federal Government

Download or read book Succession Planning in the Federal Government written by Christine Noel Roberts and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Succession planning is a term that refers to the systematic and methodological efforts an organization uses to plan for organizational stability and proficiency. Organizations must provide employees the training, experiences, and knowledge required to assume positions of increased responsibility when those jobs are vacated. Agencies should strive to create a diversified pool of qualified candidates to avoid a talent gap, workforce shortages, or a loss of agency knowledge. Over the past fifteen years, the Federal Government has continued to highlight the need to take a proactive approach to succession planning by first identifying the skill sets needed for critical positions and then developing their future leaders. With a limited number of new employees entering civil service and projected retirements over the next several years, it is essential that agencies quickly prioritize succession planning strategies to train and prepare employees to assume critical acquisition positions, such as the Contracting Officer (CO) role. COs are the only individuals with authority to procure goods and services on the Government’s behalf and therefore occupy positions classified as inherently governmental functions. This research study explored the lack of succession planning at DoN agencies in Southern MD and the impact of the failure to create a multi-generational pipeline of qualified candidates who can compete for CO positions as they are vacated.
