Book The Effectiveness of ADEC s Professional Development for Principals in Al Ain Government Schools UAE

Download or read book The Effectiveness of ADEC s Professional Development for Principals in Al Ain Government Schools UAE written by wafaa Ghafri and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated the extent to which professional development provided by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) helped principals in Al Ain government schools to lead the new five components of change in their schools. The study was guided by three research questions and used the mixed research method. Data were collected through a questionnaire, individual interviews, and focus group interviews. The questionnaire was divided into four sections. The first section included demographic information of participants. The second section included eleven statements addressing the school principals' perceptions towards professional development programs conducted by ADEC. The third section was comprised of twenty-two statements that assessed the effectiveness of professional development programs on the principals' leadership skills and practices in reference to the new five components of leadership in ADEC schools. The effectiveness of the PDs was also assessed by the school teachers as they answered the questionnaire giving their opinions about how the PDs helped principals in leading schools. The last section of the questionnaire included three open-ended questions which were used with the interviews data to help interpret the results of the research questions. The questionnaire was distributed to principals and teachers in 110 schools in AI Ain from all cycles (K-12). It was completed by 62 principals and 702 teachers. The means, cumulative means, and standard deviations were used to assess the effectiveness of ADEC's professional development programs. The cumulative means, T -test, ANOV A, and multiple comparisons were used to answer the second question of whether the perceptions towards professional development programs differed according to position (principals and teachers), gender, and experience within each group. The third question was answered by analyzing answers to the open-ended questions and interviews. The results of the study showed that professional development programs provided by ADEC to principals in AI Ain government schools were effective in the five areas. In addition, the study found that the perceptions towards the effectiveness of ADEC's PD programs differed according to position, gender, and experience. Teachers rated the effectiveness more than principals. Male teachers also rated the programs as more effective than female teachers did. Finally, school principals and teachers agreed that the programs could be improved further by designing individual professional development plans for each school principal. The study concluded that involving school teachers and principals will increase the effectiveness of the PD programs.

Book A Global Perspective of Social Justice Leadership for School Principals

Download or read book A Global Perspective of Social Justice Leadership for School Principals written by Pamela S. Angelle and published by IAP. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within education there have been some notable attempts to frame social justice in ways that can help to explain and understand the practices of those working in schools, especially school leaders. The research contained in this book seeks to enhance our understanding of school leaders’ actions as they work to promote socially just practices and/or outcomes in a range of different national contexts. The unique nature of this research is that studies took place in numerous schools across the globe in a variety of contexts yet utilized the same research protocols. This has allowed the researchers to draw conclusions at an international level about social justice decision making, the supports and barriers brought on school leaders by national policy and mandates, and the essential nature of context in the work of social justice leadership. The audience will include scholars on a global scale, given that cases in the book include authors and principals from around the world. The book can also serve as a text for leadership preparation courses as well as courses in social justice, research design, and qualitative research methodologies. Courses in human relations and communication can use the content as examples of the negotiations and challenges of teamwork in international settings. A primary audience for the book is system/school level leaders in contexts and communities throughout the world for understanding comparative leadership and social justice decision making. Current principals will find the cases useful as reflexive tools for their own work. Educational leaders, educational reformers, and policy makers will benefit from this book as they seek to understand the impact of their work and its influence on promoting equity in schools across the globe.

This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores how educational leadership and administration (ELA) is constructed in the Middle East and North African region (MENA), and charts the development of ELA as a discipline. Against the backdrop of rapid growth and interest in the educational restructuring, educational reforms, policy and leadership landscape of the region, chapters investigate issues concerned with the production and utilization of knowledge in the field, and analyse the future of ELA in relation to the educational policies and practices in MENA countries. Featuring a broad range of geographically dispersed specialist contributors involved in leadership, policy, and administration, the volume ultimately sheds light on this little-researched area of study to demystify common tropes and misunderstandings surrounding ELA in the MENA region. This book will be of use to scholars, researchers, and postgraduate students involved with international and comparative education, higher education management, and education policy and politics more broadly.

Book Issues in English Education in the Arab World

Download or read book Issues in English Education in the Arab World written by Rahma Al-Mahrooqi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though diverse, the Arab world boasts a unique culture and native language, both of which are unlike those found in English-speaking countries. Perhaps due to the nature of these differences, Arab-Western relations have been described as existing on one of the world’s great cultural fault-lines. Debate about the potential effects, both positive and negative, of English-medium education and the learning of English in the region’s schools and universities is one expression of this. Even as debate continues, issues of politics, culture, social mobility, and identity are played out in the English language classrooms of the Arab world on a daily basis. The current volume explores some of the concerns related to the place of English and English-medium education in the Arab world. It examines issues of the relationship between English, Arabic, cultural identity and power in the region within a historical and contemporary framework; the experiences of learners from Arabic-medium secondary schools adjusting to English-medium colleges; and the challenges and potential rewards of promoting student-centered classrooms and technology in traditionally teacher-centered environments. These issues are explored from the perspectives of teachers, students, researchers and other stakeholders in Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Sudan.

Book Assessment and Evaluation of Leadership Roles in Sustaining Educational Reforms in Secondary Schools in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Download or read book Assessment and Evaluation of Leadership Roles in Sustaining Educational Reforms in Secondary Schools in the Kingdom of Bahrain written by Ali Khalifa Alsaad and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the study is to assess and evaluate the role of leaders in sustaining educational reforms in public secondary schools in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Almost 500 participants participated in the current study to measure the effectives of twelve secondary schools principal's leadership role in correspondence with the (Goals, Pedagogy, Institutionalization, Leadership, Spread, Evidence, and Ownership) GPILSEO framework. The study measured leadership effectiveness through four independent variables: participant's position, experience, qualifications, gender, and schools level of performance. The study indicate that in general, school leaders were not practicing effective forms of distributed leadership and this limited the possibility of teaching staff from experiencing leadership roles which, in turn, influenced the sustainability of educational reforms negatively. Similarly, it was found that leaders were performing poorly in facilitating and transferring educational reform practices into the school, as most 'early career' teachers lacked guidance and understanding of educational practices due to lack of specific goals, while 'late career' teachers resisted educational reforms practices as they were perceived as a threat to initial practices. In addition, statistically significant gender and schools differences were found. With respect to gender, female leaders performed better than male leaders in transferring educational reform ownership to school teachers. The findings of the study also suggested that leaders of schools classed by the Bahraini school inspection authorities as "Satisfactory" performed better than leaders of schools classed as "inadequate", when implementing educational reforms. However, the study findings did not indicate any significant difference in the GIPLSEO framework elements between participant's qualification groups. This is explained to be due to the fact that participant's with different qualifications possessed similar positions and, thus, similar perceptions of leadership roles.

Book Learning from Experiences and Investing in Opportunities

Download or read book Learning from Experiences and Investing in Opportunities written by Safa Abdelrahman Bukhatir and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the career progress of three public kindergarten principals in the UAE. Narrative inquiry within the three-dimensional space approach (Clandinin and Connelly 2000), is used as a methodology to re-live and re-tell significant events in the personal, social and professional life stories of the principals. Their accounts are analysed to examine the influence of the UAE"s socio-cultural, political and institutional/organisational contexts on their career progress as school leaders. Inspired by Dewey"s (1938) theory of experience, the key underpinnings of the study"s conceptual and theoretical frameworks are identified as professionalism, career progression and leadership. The professionalism of school teachers and leaders had been criticised by the national and international communities due to poor educational outcomes and lack of qualified school teachers and leaders. The UAE Vision 2021 initiated a transformational plan for change in education, which emphasised that professionalisation of school leaders and teachers is key for the country to meet societal and international expectations. Furthermore, early childhood education was regarded the stepping stone for constructing children"s personalities and the foundation of their education and future. However, rapid changes in the global and national education reforms, mainly multiple series of international policy-borrowing/transfer, impose many challenges to the UAE public school and kindergarten leaders" daily work and career advancement. These challenges impose external pressures leading to internal tensions that challenge their perceptions of professionalism, and might hinder their professionalisation and career progress. The principals noted the significance of the preparatory socialization processes (culture, society, family, education institutions, peers and reference groups) in the formation of their personal and professional identities and experiences, and in facilitating their career progress. However, the findings also highlighted aspects of the socio-cultural context that impeded the principals" career choices. Additionally, centralisation/managerialism, standardisation and lack of contextualised professional development were the main challenges principals faced in the organisational socialisation processes. Thus, the study encourages school/kindergarten principals to carefully "read" their social structures and systems, and let professional responsibility guard their professionalism and agency, through engaging in continuous cycles of professional self-evaluation and owning their achievements. For officials and policy makers, the study also proposes the prioritisation of context and people over spiritless statistics while creating improvement and professionalisation plans. Two ways are suggested: through empowering school/kindergarten leaders, and using interpretative approaches for a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the context.

Book Exploring the Beliefs and Behaviors of Effective Headteachers in the Government and Non government Schools in Pakistan microform

Download or read book Exploring the Beliefs and Behaviors of Effective Headteachers in the Government and Non government Schools in Pakistan microform written by Khaki, Jan-e-Alam and published by Library and Archives Canada = Bibliothèque et Archives Canada. This book was released on 2005 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explored the roles, beliefs and behaviors of three reputationally effective secondary school headteachers in Karachi, Pakistan. It selected one head from each of three types of schools---government, community and independent, assuming that contextual factors will influence the nature of leadership. It particular, it explored the heads' roles, task management behavior and conceptions of effective leadership, and observed them enacting their roles in their daily school lives. The study also explored the key stakeholders' (e.g., teachers, students, parents and officials) perceptions of an effective headteacher in order to see how they view school leadership. The findings reveal that all three heads' beliefs and practices show similarity in a vision of providing an education balanced between Islamic teachings and values and modern, secular content and skills. As managers and leaders, the heads focused on building an environment conducive to better teaching and learning, enabling teacher development, and fostering productive relations within and outside the school. However, they differed in their rationale, understanding, strategies and application of these strategies, due largely to differences in their personal histories, specific beliefs and values, and organizational settings. The heads' and key stakeholders' images converged in a role of an effective head that I characterize as a "Prophetic Professional" having a dual role: "prophetic" in commitment to Islamic values and "professional" in playing the role of a good school leader in terms of instruction, management, and leadership. The prophetic professional aims to make sure that Islamic education and values are imparted, in conjunction with the modern secular academic knowledge. This dual leadership role derives from broader Islamic ideological and socio-cultural context of Pakistan. The enquiry collected data through qualitative research methods, including semi-structured interviews, discussions, non-participant observation, pre- and post observation discussions, informal conversations and analysis of relevant documents. Data also came from focus group discussions with key stakeholders: teachers, students and parents in each school. In addition, the researcher interviewed selected officials or governors related to each school, exploring their views and expectations of school heads and their effectiveness.
