Book The Palgrave Handbook of Learning for Transformation

Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of Learning for Transformation written by Aliki Nicolaides and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-24 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook offers an expanded discourse on transformative learning by making the turn into new passageways to explore the phenomenon of transformation. It curates diverse discourses, knowledges and practices of transformation, in ways that both includes and departs from the adult learning mainstay of transformative learning and adult education. The purpose of this handbook is not to resolve or unify a theory of transformation and all the disciplinary contributions that clearly promote a living concept of transformation. Instead, the intent is to catalyze a more complex and deeper inquiry into the “Why of transformation.” Each discipline, culture, ethics and practice has its own specialized care and reasons for paying attention to transformation. How can scholars, practitioners, and active members of discourses on transformative learning make a difference? How can they foster and create conditions that allow us to move on to other, unaddressed or understudied questions? To answer these questions, the editors and their authors employ the metaphor of the many turns into passageways to convey the potential of transformation that may emerge from the many connecting passageways between, for instance, people and society, theory and practice, knowledge created by diverse disciplines and fields/professions, individual and collective transformations, and individual and social action.

Book Colonial Ideology and the classical Bildungsroman

Download or read book Colonial Ideology and the classical Bildungsroman written by José Santiago Fernández-Vázquez and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2024-05-16 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the ideological affinity that can be established between the classical ‘Bildungsroman’ and colonialist ideology on the basis of a literary analysis of ‘Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre’—considered by most critics to be the origin of the genre—and ‘Great Expectations’—one of the paradigmatic examples of the development of the Bildungsroman in English literature. This ideological affinity is understood as an example of what the Palestinian critic Edward Said has called a ‘structure of attitude and reference’: the convergence of different cultural manifestations that, although formally independent, contribute to a common purpose. The monograph also undertakes a study of the main characteristics of the classical ‘Bildungsroman’ from a formal and thematic point of view, and an analysis of the relationship between genre theories and Eurocentric discourses.

Book Third Space Exploration in Education

Download or read book Third Space Exploration in Education written by Kaye, Candace and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-08-07 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third space can simultaneously be a safe haven for experimentation and creativity and a risky space in which there is likely to be contestation and uncertainty. Understanding the strategic role in examining and activating third spaces is necessary, which applies not only to organizations that seek to apply the contemporary concept of third space in either digital or face-to-face settings but also to individuals who exist as actors in third-space environments. These organizations and individuals often have to perform outside of the first space, a dominant social or settler colonial identity group. Third-Space Exploration in Education investigates the knowledge, relationships, legitimacies, and languages that problematize and accommodate the paradoxes, tensions, and possibilities at the heart of understanding education-related third-space environments. The book is useful in providing insights and support for readers concerned with the creation, management, negotiation, or reconceptualization of expertise, knowledge, information, and organizational development within culturally diverse third-space communities and environments. This reference work is ideal for audiences in various disciplines centering on education as well as interdisciplinary areas or areas that can relate to education such as ethnic studies, sociology, psychology, medicine, technology, and business.

Finley Eversole introduces a meditation practice that moves beyond the visual content of an art form in order to connect with its embedded spiritual energy, allowing the viewer to tap in to the deeper consciousness inherent in the artwork and awaken dormant powers in the depths of the viewer’s soul. Examining modern and postmodern artwork from 1945 onward, Eversole reveals the influences of ancient Egypt, India, China, and alchemy on this art. He draws extensively on philosophy, myth and symbolism, literature, and metaphysics to explain the seven stages of spiritual death and rebirth of the soul possible through art: the experience of self-loss, the journey into the underworld, the experience of the dark night of the soul, the conflict with and triumph over evil, the awakening of new life in the depths of being, and the return and reintegration of consciousness on a higher plane of being, resulting finally in ecstasy, transfiguration, illumination, and liberation. To illustrate these stages, Eversole includes works by abstract expressionists Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko and modern visionary artists Alex Grey and Ernst Fuchs, among others, to reveal the powerful and liberating forces art contributes to the transformation and evolution of human consciousness.

In The Art of Gathering, Priya Parker argues that the gatherings in our lives are lackluster and unproductive--which they don't have to be. We rely too much on routine and the conventions of gatherings when we should focus on distinctiveness and the people involved. At a time when coming together is more important than ever, Parker sets forth a human-centered approach to gathering that will help everyone create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play. Drawing on her expertise as a facilitator of high-powered gatherings around the world, Parker takes us inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn't, and why. She investigates a wide array of gatherings--conferences, meetings, a courtroom, a flash-mob party, an Arab-Israeli summer camp--and explains how simple, specific changes can invigorate any group experience. The result is a book that's both journey and guide, full of exciting ideas with real-world applications. The Art of Gathering will forever alter the way you look at your next meeting, industry conference, dinner party, and backyard barbecue--and how you host and attend them.

Book Qualitative Inquiry

Download or read book Qualitative Inquiry written by Lynn Butler-Kisber and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2010-02-17 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Qualitative Inquiry unites the basics of research design in qualitative research with the practice of analysing qualitative data. This textbook addresses the theory and practice of choosing and designing a qualitative approach and methodological and analytical ramifications that follow from making such choices. It aims to set out the theoretical underpinnings behind different methodological choices and to help students then follow up on (and interrogate) such approaches. Qualitative Inquiry is the ideal starting point for students on research training courses who have opted to develop a qualitative research project. In it, Butler-Kisber introduces students to theory and then demonstrates this theory in practice by showing how a project is actually designed and actually analysed. This book examines theory, method and interpretation in a way that is meaningful to students and new researchers, as well as discussing newer, more avant-garde, developments in qualitative research in arts-based inquiry. It is essential reading for students who are seeking to make sense of their research and their developing theoretical standpoints.

Book Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Language Art and Cultural Exchange ICLACE 2023

Download or read book Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Language Art and Cultural Exchange ICLACE 2023 written by Bootheina Majoul and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. The 4th International Conference on Language, Art and Cultural Exchange (ICLACE 2023) will be held on May 19–21, 2023 in Hangzhou, China. Culture includes language, which is a special cultural phenomenon. For culture, most scholars agree that it mainly includes two aspects: material culture and spiritual culture. Specific examples to show cultural phenomena will be of great benefit to our understanding. Some examples of material culture are listed here: Indian women wear saris, Japanese like to eat sashimi, and Chinese like to shake hands when meeting each other. These are various manifestations of material culture in different nations. Language is the mode of transmission of culture. Language is one of the most important ways of thinking and cultural exchange of human beings, which is actually the manifestation of the formation and transmission of culture. Because of thinking, human beings gradually create culture in the continuous social practice, and then spread their national culture to each other in the continuous language exchange. Since ancient times, art and culture have been going hand in hand and complementing each other. On the one hand, art is an important connotation and component of culture, and the progress of art is the driving force of cultural development. On the other hand, culture is the source and content of art, and the prosperity of culture is the key to improve the level of art. On the other hand, culture is the source and content of art, and the prosperity of culture is the key to improving the level of art. Therefore, whether it is culture or art, it is not only a symbol of an era, a representation of people’s life style, but also a guide to the direction of social development. The relationship between language, art and cultural communication is a hot topic for many scholars to study at present. Therefore, an academic conference is set up for authors to discuss related research issues and exchange new ideas, hoping that scholars can burst out more excellent and valuable ideas in this conference. ICLACE 2023 is to bring together innovative academics and industrial experts in the field of Literature, Art and Cultural Exchange research to a common forum. The primary goal of the conference is to provide a platform for scientists, scholars, and engineers from all over the world to present ongoing research activities, fostering the research and business relations and promoting scientific information interchange and cooperation between all the participants.
