Book excerpt: This conference was arranged by the Norwegian Petroleum Society in order to commemorate the first 25 years of exploration on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Sixty papers and posters were presented of which 25 have been selected for this volume. Since the start of exploration activities during the mid 1960's the North Sea has not only proved to be one of the main petroleum provinces in the world, but has also established itself as an excellent laboratory for geoscientific research and application. This development has been stimulated greatly by the openess towards exchange of technical data encouragement by the Norwegian authorities. The objective of this book is to assess the results of 25 years of exploration in Norway. It focuses on lessons learned from past experiences as well as considering future challenges facing geoscientists in the industry (relating to both exploration and exploitation activities). Included, are papers which assess the status and future trends of exploration in the main geological provinces on the Norwegian Continental Shelf from the Central Graben in the south to Svalbard and the Russian Artic in the north.

Book Petroleum Resource Management

Download or read book Petroleum Resource Management written by John A.P. Chandler and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petroleum Resource Management offers a thought-provoking examination of how countries manage their offshore petroleum resources by comparing the different approaches to licensing and regulation taken by Australia, Norway and the UK.Based on extensive research into their policies, licensing systems and resource management regulations, including interviews with government regulators and companies, John Chandler explores how these countries all face similar challenges as their offshore petroleum basins mature, including smaller discoveries, marginal production and ageing infrastructure. Identifying further challenges such as climate change and the increasing accountability in relation to sustainability and social issues, Chandler analyses how their petroleum policy, systems of regulation, and regulators developed up to the present, and how they are responding to these challenges, as well as how they deal with exploration, development, infrastructure sharing, and production. This timely and informative book will be essential reading for those in petroleum policy and governance, including petroleum lawyers, government officials, regulators and analysts. Academics and students on courses relating to petroleum regulation and the governance of resources will also benefit from this engaging book.

Download or read book Small Powers at Sea written by Finn Laursen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small Powers at Sea presents an analysis of the marine policies of Denmark, Norway and Sweden from the First UN Conference on the Law of the Sea in 1958 until the conclusion of the Third UN Conference on the Law of the Sea in 1982. The main substantive chapters cover security aspects, continental shelf policies, fisheries, shipping and marine environment as well as deep seabed mining. The study is comparative and conducted from a political science perspective, discussing how to explain the rather divergent Scandinavian marine policies. A state-centric rational actor model can explain much of the variance, but other factors, including cognitive ones and the role of domestic politics, must be included to obtain a fuller understanding of Scandinavian policies over time and across issue areas.

Book Labour Law and Off Shore Oil

Download or read book Labour Law and Off Shore Oil written by Jonathan S. Kitchen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economically and politically, North Sea oil very quickly became of vital importance to Britain. But very little serious attention was paid to the problems of the men working out on the rigs, and certainly none to their legal problems: they had been working in a kind of legal ‘no man’s land’. This informative and critical book, first published in 1977, represents a new and exciting approach to labour law looks closely at the way in which the law applies to workers out on the rigs and at the way it regulates the various aspects of their employment. More than that, it looks at the context in which the law is applied, a dynamic industry operating within severe physical, economic and political constraints, showing not only how the law came to be shaped, but also how its provisions are but one example of the employment process and which mirror changing moods and standards.
