Book Explicit Cost Dynamics

Download or read book Explicit Cost Dynamics written by Reginald Tomas Yu-Lee and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002-02-28 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GETTING TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BOTTOM LINE Traditional cost management systems typically defeat their own purpose by leading corporations to make decisions that ultimately do not optimize performance. These systems are the foundation for decisions that are made throughout the corporation. In order for organizations to increase performance beyond current capabilities, a new approach is needed that addresses issues such as understanding the true impact of various actions on the bottom line-and eliminating methods that distort numbers and narrow options. Explicit Cost Dynamics (ECD) offers such an alternative, and this expertly written, revolutionary book provides an indispensable introduction to the subject. Informative and easy-to-read, Explicit Cost Dynamics: Provides an alternative view and understanding of the impact of costs, actions, and time on the bottom line of a corporation Explains how this new theory can lead to an overall profit maximization Shows that costs can be considered as either a function of activities performed, as a function of resources expended, or of time Shows that the difference between explicit dollars flowing into and out of a company is equal to the rate of change of cash . . . and much more to help CEOs, CFOs, controllers, cost managers, financial managers, and others involved in the decision-making process improve their organizations' overall bottom lines.

Download or read book Lies Damned Lies and Cost Accounting written by Reginald Tomas Lee and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2016-02-18 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces capacity management, describes cash flow dynamics, and offers ideas about how to manage both Business leaders rely on accounting data such as profit and calculated costs as a guide to whether they are making money. Should they? Accounting was designed to report financial performance not model cash flow. Accruals can disconnect cash flow from the timing and extent to which it occurs. Statements of cash flow do not provide insight into what was bought and how efficiently it was used. Costs and profits are not absolute, they change based on the model you use to calculate them. To manage cash, you must manage what you buy and how effectively you use it. The largest expenditure for most companies is capacity; space, labor, materials, equipment, and technology. Unless you model and manage capacity effectively, you will not achieve the cash flow results you seek. This book introduces capacity management, describes cash flow dynamics, and offers ideas about how to manage both. After reading it, you be able to see, understand, and manage cash flow as never before.

Book excerpt: ESSENTIALS OF CAPACITY MANAGEMENT Full of valuable tips, techniques, illustrative real-world examples, exhibits, and best practices, this handy and concise paperback will help you stay up to date on the newest thinking, strategies, developments, and technologies in capacity management. "Proper capacity management is the driving force behind outstanding corporate performance. Essentials of Capacity Management clearly describes its impact on operations, as well as how to use measurement systems and process analysis to enhance capacity usage. This is a solid foundation in capacity management for the business professional!" —Steve Bragg, Author "Although capacity management is a fundamental concern, it-like many other fundamentals-is often scanted. In fact, there's little that's more important to most companies than their ability to manage their capacity, which is simply the ability to do work. Essentials of Capacity Management does a great job of giving a quick, yet thorough, overview of the many considerations involved." —Barry J. Brinker, Editor, Guide to Cost Management (John Wiley & Sons) "This book does an excellent job of relating processes to capacity. Managers and executives will better understand that managing the effectiveness and efficiency of processes reduces the amount of capacity required, thus providing an opportunity to reduce costs while improving process quality and reducing process time. It shows the relationship of capacity to demand on downstream processes. It shows that process flexibility reduces required capacity." —John Antos, President, Value Creation Group, Inc. The Wiley Essentials Series-because the business world is always changing...and so should you.

Book Approximate Dynamic Programming for Dynamic Vehicle Routing

Download or read book Approximate Dynamic Programming for Dynamic Vehicle Routing written by Marlin Wolf Ulmer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-19 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a straightforward overview for every researcher interested in stochastic dynamic vehicle routing problems (SDVRPs). The book is written for both the applied researcher looking for suitable solution approaches for particular problems as well as for the theoretical researcher looking for effective and efficient methods of stochastic dynamic optimization and approximate dynamic programming (ADP). To this end, the book contains two parts. In the first part, the general methodology required for modeling and approaching SDVRPs is presented. It presents adapted and new, general anticipatory methods of ADP tailored to the needs of dynamic vehicle routing. Since stochastic dynamic optimization is often complex and may not always be intuitive on first glance, the author accompanies the ADP-methodology with illustrative examples from the field of SDVRPs. The second part of this book then depicts the application of the theory to a specific SDVRP. The process starts from the real-world application. The author describes a SDVRP with stochastic customer requests often addressed in the literature, and then shows in detail how this problem can be modeled as a Markov decision process and presents several anticipatory solution approaches based on ADP. In an extensive computational study, he shows the advantages of the presented approaches compared to conventional heuristics. To allow deep insights in the functionality of ADP, he presents a comprehensive analysis of the ADP approaches.

Book Uncertainty Quantification in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Aircraft Engines

Download or read book Uncertainty Quantification in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Aircraft Engines written by Francesco Montomoli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces design techniques developed to increase the safety of aircraft engines, and demonstrates how the application of stochastic methods can overcome problems in the accurate prediction of engine lift caused by manufacturing error. This in turn addresses the issue of achieving required safety margins when hampered by limits in current design and manufacturing methods. The authors show that avoiding the potential catastrophe generated by the failure of an aircraft engine relies on the prediction of the correct behaviour of microscopic imperfections. This book shows how to quantify the possibility of such failure, and that it is possible to design components that are inherently less risky and more reliable. This new, updated and significantly expanded edition gives an introduction to engine reliability and safety to contextualise this important issue, evaluates newly-proposed methods for uncertainty quantification as applied to jet engines. Uncertainty Quantification in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Aircraft Engines will be of use to gas turbine manufacturers and designers as well as CFD practitioners, specialists and researchers. Graduate and final year undergraduate students in aerospace or mathematical engineering may also find it of interest.
