Book excerpt: The Red Herring: A Novel Approach to Explain What Really Happened on 9/11 By: Kevin Omlor Special 20th Anniversary Edition The Red Herring presents a completely unique outlook on the events that took place on September 11th. Although told with an unwavering reverence for life, this story may prove to be the most uncompromising and controversial political satires ever told. This provocative telling just might awaken the reader to an America they thought lost. While men of good will everywhere pray for world peace, perhaps this old American sword will provide them with hope. Matthew 10:34 “I have not come to bring peace but rather a sword.”

Book Religious Minorities in Non Secular Middle Eastern and North African States

Download or read book Religious Minorities in Non Secular Middle Eastern and North African States written by Mark Tessler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-19 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and compares the circumstances and lived experiences of religious minorities in Tunisia, Morocco, and Israel in the 1970s, countries where the identity and mission of the state are strongly and explicitly tied to the religion of the majority. The politics and identity of Jews in Tunisia and Morocco and Arabs in Israel are, therefore, shaped to a substantial degree by their status as religious minorities in non-secular states. This collection, based on in-depth fieldwork carried out during an important moment in the history of each community, and of the region, considers the nature and implications of each group’s response to its circumstances. It focuses on both the community and individual levels of analysis and draws, in part, on original public opinion surveys. It also compares the three communities in order to offer generalizable insights about ways the identity, political culture, and institutional character of a minority group are shaped by the broader political environment in which it resides. The project will appeal to scholars and students in the fields of Middle Eastern and North African studies, Judaic studies, Islamic Studies, minority group politics, and international relations and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

This book was released on 1997-12-22 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rarely is a collection of essays as coherent and of such uniformly high quality as is this one. This book makes a major contribution to our efforts to understand, and so competently interact with, the forces of political, economic, and social change in states where Islamic ideals form a vibrant component of the culture." —American Historical Review "Fielding a veteran team of American Maghribi specialists, this book discusses Islam and politics, human rights, aspects of political economy, and the international dimension of prospects for democratization in Islamic North African states. . . . All chapters advance useful arguments based on solid research." —Foreign Affairs In the late 1980s, misguided economic policies, bureaucratic mismanagement, political corruption, and cultural alienation combined to create a popular demand for change in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. It seemed for a time that a new and more open politics would transform the region. Instead, authoritarian states mobilized to repress the populist opposition led by politicized Islamist movements. Analyzing developments over the last two decades from the perspectives of political culture and political economy, leading American scholars provide insights into the region's continuing political crisis.
